That's supercool, I'm hoping we can make some PHAT videos in the future. I have space on footbag.org but I need to upload it there so I need the footy on cd or something. We'll definitely make some arrangements for this so we can get some Montreal videos out.

yeah, I had to manage to make a video out of like 6 minutes of footage, I'ts a hard challenge for my first footbag video, and I'm not so proud of the result.. but I consider it more as a teaser to just give a taste to people around montreal to come shred with us :D
If you got MSN or AIM or w/e you can PM me and I'll send it to you so you can put it up

EDITED: footage is up!

Man that was sooooo cool, considering the small amount of footage you had to work with, major props. I'm sure with tons of footage you'll make an excellent vid. You should make sections for Montrealer's to showcase us. I'll help with the filming.

the music was hilarious
You should use some drum and bass and grimskunk next time for an epic feel.

See you Monday

Good news! I got some footage of James and Fred last night, not much from Claudia or Mark but that will come,
I started to gather video's and I'll try to make a 7-10 minutes one in 2 or 3 weeks.

On my side I'm pretty happy, I almost hit pdx drifter.. but I catched the bag as eclipse instead of clipper and droped ;/

I'm gona work on my weak side today and tomorrow, I'm really tired being so week on flipside

See you all thursday!

Well, I missed that session due to a 16 hour work schedule :?

Anyway, sunday I played footbag with Eli and Caro, its was pretty cool.

Eli was on FIRE, really playing well all the time. Not so much in terms of 1 big huge move and then some bails, but consistant (20 contacts or so), varied, genuine strings with combos like: gyro butterfly > pdx. drifter > blender > vortex > blender.. etc.). Lots of fun. And he came close to flurry > symp. barrage..

Caro played well, long strings, whirl > ripwalk, pdx. drifters all over the place, long strings. Tried barroque a couple times, didnt work that day though. Still, on the whole, strongs strings.

I played OK, I guess, not very many long strings, but i was having fun trying some new concepts and moves.. came the closest I ever came to Swiftering Osis (try to picture that  ). I hit 2 new moves, Pixie Symp. Eggbeater, and Fairy Grifter. I tried some other weird wacky stuff but nothing was really working. Still, i think if I can get just the right swirling set up, Ill be able to hit swirling reverse-swirling symp. mirage... would be fun!

Today i MIGHT have a session with James, depends on a bunch of stuff, but I will be there thursday for NDA, gare-on-teed.

Swiftering Osis (try to picture that )
would that be like miraging (or stepping) op reverse twirl?
Sounds like the kind of trick you'd get your legs tangled in...
verynice concept though comme on dit chez nous: Bien Négoce Beau Gosse!

Yeah, stepping muted reverse-twirl. You have to step HIGH and twist alot and jump high for it to be clean and doable.

Yo Nick I guess we're not shredding today huh? I've been at school all day and I won't be home until seven or something. But I had an intensive 45 minute session after I worked out this morning. There is simply nothing like working out and then shredding. I felt so dead but so alive. Anyway I was schooling and it was going well. I was sealing both my torques on a regular basis (one with pdx mirage which is tough!) and nailed my flip blender like I was a nympho in a whorehouse. I'm feeling more and more consistant with my game these days, I can't wait to start wrecking shit!
AND the session last night at NDA was phat, everyone was playing well, but the most important part was when Marc let me try on his G-Units....MAN those things have EPIC grip. I felt so much more balanced because I wasn't sliding around the floor like a fool. And the inside surface also has excellent grip (far more than my mesh lavers). The only thing to get used to is that the back is thicker than on lavers so I felt a bit clunky at first. But the second I put those bad boys on I was on fire! I almost nailed one of Nick's challenges both sides! (gyro osis>mobius). I also hit over ten pdx whirls in a row.
I am definitely getting a pair.
And one last note, I just got squarepusher's second album (they have 10) and it is fantastic! Especially 'beep street'. I want that song in my section!

And mathieu we're going to get lot's and lot's of footage for an amazing video, with sections for everybody. I can't wait till it's released.

Later shredophytes

I almost skipped tonights session to make more music, but I showed up, footbag still has the upper hand.

A fair number of us showed up tonight, maybe 6-7 people, some OK shred, I've seen better by everyone who was there. Including myself.

A new move by Marc: Clipper it up to face-height, right under your nose, take a good whiff, and clipper. clip > same sniff > same clip. Its called "Johnson".

Eli WAS pretty on fire for about a period of 30-45 minutes near the end, hitting some nice juicy long strings, but the opening and ending stuff was only OK. Great shred, but nowhere near a good day, I believe.

And me... god damn I suck.. I had to try like 13 times to hit ripwalk on my flip step, i have issues with that bitch. Swirling Butterfly, Whirr > Reverse-Swirling Pickup, and thats all folks! All sorts of shitty strings, left and right. Hm wait I forgot, came close to ripstein flipside. Which is weird because my swirl sucks on that side.

James didnt show up, surprise surprise. James whaddup call me asshole!

Anyway, I went back to my plae with Marc after, had some hotdogs, and junk food, some pink juice, and played some Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Lotsa fun.

Then I go check out my ratings for my songs online, not bad, Vacuum Effect has over 100 views, which im happy for :) I think Unusual Suspect is my best song though... I also really like Tripping on Kings, its so not my normal style, but I find it very epic. Both songs have their downfalls though: Unusual Suspect needs some major compression on the maalstrom synth (bell sound), and Tripping on Kings needs some more bass on the bassdrums, they just arent coming out. Maybe some distortion would help, and a touch of reverb.. anyway im rambling.

A session this weekend with Eli and Caro will surely arise, we'll see what happens.

Shredded today with Eli; got it all on tape too :D

Pretty bad-ass session, despite the cold. The runs were mild, but there was some good stuff, notably Eli busting big, a great string, passes it to me, and I do a pretty good one right after his. Strings BSOS.

Double blenders were everywhere both sides for both of us, swirling set is weird for me.. Its like if I do a ripstein, it goes high, but if I want anything else, then I drop it :?

What else.. I noticed my flip step has almost disapeared entirely, somehow, very frustrating. Flip spinning whirl is pretty consistent, all my flip whirls are alot better now, so thats fun. Flip swirling set is comming along. Thats about it.

Until next time,
Signing out,
Slick Nick

Well I just got home from tonights shred and my finger are dead frozen, next time I'll bring mitts...
I'm very satisfied of my shredding tonight, but DAMN something always happened on my best runs.. either Kolo jumping and stealing the bag in my run, or some small kid just bumping on me on a 15 contact run (wich is really awesome for me)

on a good side: Someone told me that those kids will be moved somewhere else! I hope this happens soon, it's funny seeing Kolo make them fall, but still, they need their place and so do we :)

I'll start working on the video this weekend, but I still need more footage.. maybe another week and I'll have enough material.

For the shredders involved, just let me know if there's any music you'd like me to use in it, I'll check it out.

See you all monday!

Another thing I forgot to mention since I learned about it after my post, unrelated to footbag but related to my presence in the montreal circle
I'm having an interview in 2 weeks for a job in Gabon in north afrika! if I get it I'll be out of the country for 6 months shredding solo :( But I think I have to set my priorities on this one and go for it! Hope interview turns out good!

Good luck Mathieu.

Note: I finally beat James at the EA Sports boxing game (I cant remember the title, the 2004 one) after having gotten PUMMELLED for the last couple of days. I was so frustrated I swear I was going to break the TV.

Until today.

*** NEWS FLASH ***

"We come straight from the ballroom boxing arena in Atlantic City, after an epic 3 round fight between 2 top-class featherweights, Eric Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera. These 2 fighters have a grudge bigger then King Kong and Godzilla. The fight was long and distinguished, and the boxing world was changed forever. Here is a small exert from the final moments:

With mounting urgency, Eric Moralez seemes frantic to finish the fight off, and kept sending in fist after fist of brutal combos. Marco Antonio Barrera calmly blocked, dodged, and weaved his way through the vicsious punches, draining his opponents stamina down to the floor.

With the exhaustion clearly evident in his opponents eyes, and the adrenaline pumping through his veins, his vision took on a blurred perspective as time seemed to slow to a crawl.

People screaming and foaming at their mouths seemed as statues as the 2 giants faced each other, each second of the timer sounding like a lightning bolt crashing through the ceiling.

Throwing a wide feint to the left, Barrera backed up as the ever-so-slow fist of Morales sails harmlessly high, and then, quickly.. firmly... powerfully... assertively... Barrera's unbelievable body blow closes in. The air ripples as the glove connects. Both fighters lock eyes for one moment.

And then its done.

Had a little session tonight, the highlight being the Me-James-Eli circle. I think some of it was filmed, but the best runs were off camera.

Eli was being fresh as usual, with some nice pdx. barraging toe fliers. A few things were frustrating him, but on the whole, nice day. He had a couple strings that were just like 8O

James was playing pretty good too, considering we were using a bag that he originally hated. Toe Blurriest like it was a joke, some nice combos, something like paradon > barfly > scorpions tail (almost), good style as usual, some other cool combos, zulu osis > gyro mirage, I think, or some variation, lots of zooms.

I felt really on tonight, and pretty controlled. I had quite a few good srings, and one was just GREAT, it was like 20 contacts, all genuine (And not through shuffling), lots of 5s. Combos life Vortex > Drifter > Vortex > Spinning Whirl > Pdx. Flail > Pixie Same Rake > Dlo > Pixie Whirl, and on and on, it was great, I felt so controlled, loose yet really tight. I dont know how it looks compared to my usual "hunt the bag , but move slowly so people think your smooth and flowy when you actually lose control" style, but its the kind of feel that I want in the futue. Practicing my basics with a straight back, jumping into all my moves, landing on my toes, and bending my knees were key tonight, I feel like I've actually made more progress tonight then in the last month.

Also, I was thinking about what is really the most important thing in freestyle (other then style), and it is definetly in the links. So many people try to add variety to their strings by learning hard/weird moves and tossing them in randomly, but thats not it.

The real trick is to re-use your bread-and-butter moves into interesting combos. I felt much more elated when trying original links in my runs then doing longer runs filled with the same-old garbage, even if they are hard moves. Twirl > Gyro Osis, Pdx. Drifter > op Motion, Crossbody Rake > Toe Blur, etc. Those are actually pretty tough even if the moves are just moderately difficult. Easier ones can be cool too, like Barfly > Stepping Illusion, Dyno > Swirl, Far Reverse Whirl > Symp. Mirage. Those are just 2 move combos, but i have NEVER seen any hit, ever, and they are not that difficult. Imagine what could be done in a 10-20 move string? People have to open their imagination more.

Those kind of combos are going to be my training focus for the next while, with the secondary goal of working more on my flipside. To make it easier ill incorporate lots of combos that are cool using my flipside. I also want to increase the difficulty of them by doing cool combos that are 3-4 moves long in length instead of 2, which is what i think about normally. Ill link those combos with fun genuine moves, like eggbeaters, drifters, dlos, etc.

Thats it for now, next session is thursday, I'll see how it goes then.
