EVENTS - Prize money vs. dope event

Post by floyd »

Hey guys,

Am organising another NZ Nationals and am just really wanting to have a point of reference (this page) for anyone saying I should be offering prize money.

Given the restrictions of limited funding (very limited at the moment!) please comment on whether you would rather professional DJs & MCs, big sound systems on all days (cough... Worlds04), promotion, parties, great T-shirts, and some medals and prizes for the winners... or a few $1000 to the winner.

To me it's a no brainer but some people believe otherwise - I would like to hear you input. Votes and comments all appreciated.

You can blow $100 in a second but memories of a bad ass event last forever.

Who's voting for Prize Money? Can you post your comments why? I would like to understand why. Do you think you would win and want the money? Do you think that to progress the sport we need to have prize money? Do you think it would entice overseas players who think they can pay their costs with the prize money? I'm very interested.

Thats generaly the rational for prize money. Money= big names=small names. I voted for dope event, though.

I would deffinatly want an awsome event, but then again I'm biased because at any tournament I went too there is no way I could win... there should be some prize though like a t-shirt or a footbag or something...

Dope event wins every time for me, and not just cos ill never win the prize money :D
At this point in the sports development prize money isnt really that important IMO... maybe for people like Vaska who win everything and need money to fly around to other tournies to win too. But for the average joe shredder its not an issue i dont think. id rather have a thumpin sound system, cool venue, and good organisation.
Id say ditch the prizes and stuff and get a secret special guest Floyd
