when i was over in paris and talking shop with freddy t. he was saying he was experimenting with dental floss for sewing bags. i was wondering if anyone else has been using it? i'm now sewing afew bags with it to do some experiments as well. just wondering if any one else had some input?

Why would floss work better? Is it thinner? Stronger? Would it keep the chunks of food out of the panel crevases?

Yeah Andrew, I guess it's stronger... But I think that the more important is that it's waxed!

Yeah Andrew how is that Fred T bag working for you?

I think floss is used because it's very durable. He was sewing with the word they use for sewing people up after surgery for a while too I think.

i know quite a few people who sew with floss.... its generally strong... i find that it sort of shreds, breaks too easily and is too waxy but the up side is that the floss itself can be melted shut....which obliviates the possiblity of knot-slippage (which used to happen with me while using upholstry thread)... but i still think upholstry thread is the best thing, just make sturdy knots.

i used floss as a hole stitcher since my first bag. i always have a small box of floss with a needle inside in my backpack.

it's the best from what i've tried.

i think the melting aspect of it is the best part. so far i haven't had any threads of my bags snap yet, but the experiment isn't over yet. max, i'm really liking it. fred warned me that some of the lead might fall out because he used the little bits at the end of the tin, but so far nothing has come out yet. at this point it's the best 32 i have ever owned! charles, Il va bien. je fais beaucoup d'expériments avec mes footbags pour essayer de les améliorer. tu es chanceux d'avoir un bon enseignant!!! et tu? ça va bien?

Yeah, I had pretty good teachers with Fred and Pierrot!!

My bags are getting better each time... It's a good feeling... I've improved much more in sewing than in footbagging these last weeks

but since last ENS (friday), I've not played once cause my left unkle/leg hurt too much... bad times...
I'm sure your bags will be great soon... It's not that hard to stitch as you can see... After the third or fourth bag, you'll start to understand how it works...

I don't kow about the strength though, I can break floss pretty easily, and the thread i'm using now, is super strong, I can't break it with both hands.

no, i'm claudia.... i don't stitch with floss, i use upholstry thread. Patrice uses floss, and was selling bags at worlds...you were definately thinking of her.

Carol W. is/was stitching with floss. Lonn I. and R. Abshire do not. (i think)

IMO floss give bags a softer floppy feel while upholstry thread is a little thicker and helps keep the bag round, But it really all comes down to the fill.

The problems that ive had with floss is that it splits and knots while sewing
