Come to Australia!! If you were to live in any of the following cities - Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart - there is a footbag scene, no need to drive anywhere, no snow (except for on freak occasions) and there is a great music scene. Also your money is worth more in Australia and we would love to have you here! If you came to Hobart I would definitly be happy to live with you - although we'd have to work stuff out.
In comparison with the US - Australia is still a liberal paradise - although getting worse every year. We still have a lot going for us I think.
for those of you trying to get over in the canadian Boarder i heard tonight from this news show called the National, there tighting up that boarders between the U.S and Canada.

I don't think Sam would have much trouble getting into Australia - definitly if you applied for a student visa you would get accepted. Then if you finish your music thing - it would be easy to apply for permancy and then citizenship!

Max is probably right. I've never applied to get in - but I think someone like Sam should be able to get a visa for Australia by following the system without any problems.
Ken made a good point too. I've been planing on leaving Australia for good once I get a degree because I hate our government so much.
However I've given the matter some thought and I think leaving the country is the wrong action to take. This goes for American's thinking about the same thing. Yes it sucks having such a fucked up government and living in such a fucked up world. But at least if you stay you can do your best to create change. I guess I believe that you can't be responsible for what other people do - only responsible for your own actions. The fact is that in Australian election - although I did more than many people - I didn't do enough. There was definitely more I could have done to try and change the result. Next election I will do more. I hope that every American who feels like their country is fucked up right now takes action to make sure the same outcome doesn't occur next time. Running away won't make things better - they'll just mean that you won't have to deal with them. The results are much more important than how they affect you - The results of the US election affect everybody and if you can do anything to try and make the world a better place to live in - I urge you do that.
Maybe democracy is not the answer to making the world a better place. We seem to be brainwashed into accepting that - without ever hearing people speak against it. Maybe pacifism isn't the answer. I'm not sure.
I can't believe that the majority of human beings in America have a good understanding of what Bush is doing to your country and to the world and still voted for him. I know that the US is a very under-educated and ignorant nation - and I believe that that is the reason for the outcome of the vote. I think a small percentage of people voted for Bush because they are selfish and rich, or selfish and think one day they'll be rich - and I think the rest of the people would have voted for Kerry if they had an accurate understanding of the issues.
It's up to you to educate these people - don't polarise them - enlighten them. If those who really do support human rights and freedom - around the world - not in your own nation at the expense of others - leave - who will create the change? Will we be forced into a new dark age of intolerance and religious crusades?
You are on the front line - please do whatever it takes.
