So, I kept a Worlds journal, so that I co uld remember what happened each day. As David said in his "Adventures" thread, the week kinda blends together when you look back on it...

When I got back to Edmonton, my Mom said, "So tell me what happened this week!"

When I sat down each night to write in my journal, I could barely remember what happened that DAY. The days were just packed.

Anyway, here we go: :!:

So I'll copy down exactly what's here, and put stuff that needs explanation in [abc123]'s.

Friday, July 23rd:

Here I am in Ottowa at John and Sheila's. [My uncle and aunt.]

I met Ryan Seath today. Cool guy, mostly a tiltless player...stuff like mirage, legover, butterfly, bad osis, ducking mirage and clipper and butterfly.

He hit datw for the first time ever, after having just said, "I can't hit double around the world!" Then he hit it in the other direction soon after. And Pixie Legover back to back!

I hit Spinning Osis both sides, pixie blender, Parkwalk > Ripwalk > string..., assassin > ss flail, food processor off foot! BLAH FOOD

Got back to my John and Sheila's place, talked to them about the session and footbag, and my failed driving test, and etc. Went to bed! Bam.

This is going to fucking own.

~

Saturday, July 24th:

Pancakes! [for breakfast]

Went to the National Art Gallery today. We paid, thinking we HAD to in order to see anything. Turns out the galleries were free, and the only thing we paid for was this temporary exhibition, portraying the artist as a clown. Clowns are damn scary, yo.

"These three guys are sitting around a campfire. One guy says, 'Hey Jack, tell us a story!' Jack says, 'Alright, it was a dark and stormy night...' " > REPEAT. [There was a video in the clown gallery that had this clown repeating that bit over and over and over while he took different poses. Artistic.]

wtf.

The rest of the Gallery was really slick though. "Rhythmic Mutation No. 9" got me thinking alot harder than I had to.

Had dinner at the Titoria Café d'Italia. Holy crap, best Calamari I've EVER had. So delicious. Oh my god. Left $120 on $102.79. Expensive dinner.

Kicked with Ryan for a short while, as his pal Chris watched. Then we went drinking at the Broadway Bar and Grill. $5.50 for the big fucking plate of poutine. Size of Delaware. It was good times.

Arrived back at Uncle John's at 12:30ish...little bit alcohol'ed. Slept.

~

Sunday, July 25th:

Holy shit! Best day ever!

Okay. Met Kenny Shults, Peter Irish, Tuan Vu, Chad D., Derek Vandall, Team Japan....so many big names.

Kicked with one crazy circle. Chad Devlahovich, Ken Somolinos, Jim Penske, and Masa from Japan. Got props from all for Alpha Atom Smasher into a string, that was cool. Jim is off the hook. He hit a good 40 contacts guiltless. I heard Pete behind me say, "That's the best string I've seen in a long time."

Vasek was freakin' crazy. He was attempting symposium furious double switch, symp whirling ripstein, swirling whirling swirl...ugh.

Penske hit, did not seal, Whirling opp Double Down. Wow.

Team Japan is soooo nice. Taishe or whatever would miss a pass, serve to Masa, Masa would shake his head no no no, pass it back, Taishe would thank him graciously. And when they pass, it's not just a pass. It's a gift.

I came back from the park after a good 6 hours of shred. [I overdid it.] Chilled with Michael Stokely, Dave Clavens, Cole Hobson, Andrew Grant, Ryan Seath, Matt Cross...more. Got 99cent pizza!

Matt says to Dave, "So who else kicks with you back home?"
"No one, they all think it's stupid."
"Well y'know what? Fuck 'em."
"Well yeah, I did, but then they didn't like it even more."

Dave is a weird, awesome guy.

~

Monday, July 26th:

Ow my fucking leg. Played a whopping 45 minutes, hit Pixie ss Flail...Beta Smear bsos. Fucked up my leg on the second Beta Smear. Not good. Still hurts.

Anyway, today was another, "Don't know where to start," kinda day.

Everyone went off. Derek tried Nuclear Ducking Torque! wtf!

Yusuke from Team Japan is freakin' awesome. He showed us his "magic tricks". Big ear, moving thumb...yeah. Masa says I look like a comic book character from "Initial D." Alright.

Vasek went off so much. It was literally giving shivers.
- SuperDuperfly > Symp Flurry
- Barraging ss Whirl, with Nemesis almost bsos I think
- Phasing ss Symp Mirage

Attempts:
- Gyro Shooting Gyro Mirage
- Phasing Flurricane
- Frontside Fury SET Butterfly
- SuperDuperfly Swirl
- Tripstein
- FAIRY Tripstein

AHH

I chilled with Caleb A. and Chad D. for awhile, walking back from El Zaz bar. I put him on this pedestal after watching videos and such, but he's just a really cool, laid-back guy. We played some poker, and got some "eats". [Chad thought the word "eats" was hilarious.]

Got offered blowjobs from the hooker on St. Catherine's, totally in passing. I mean, wtf. What does she expect us to say?

"No blowjobs guys?"
"Well, now that you metnion it, I have been in the market for a blowjob. What kind of prices can you offer me, and could you give me the prices of your competitors?"

Uh huh.

Oh, and holy shit, Pirish hit Stepping Inspinning Paradox Whirl.

And now Even Gatesman and I are just chilling, chatting:

him, "I've never seen Dellusion."
"I've hit it a few times."
"Can you show me tomorrow?"
"Yeah, if my leg holds up."

~

Okay, this is getting lengthy...I'll post some more later.

Go for it.

What gets me is that it was entirely unintentional...I mean, even after looking through the photos on the camera, I didn't notice until the picture were full size on my computer.

Pretty Epic.

Continuing on now....

Tuesday, July 27th:

Played another 30 minute day today. How frustrating.

Andrew Coleman and I met there four girls down at Place Des Arts. They sat down for a bit and talked to us about footbag and what was going on here and such. Then they said we should come to some bar with them that night, which was cool, but unfortunately after they left, we totally forgot what they had told us. The name of the place AND the address.

So I suggested we chase after them.

"Are you serious?" [(Andrew said that.)]
"Yeah, why not?"
"Yeah...alright, let's do it."

Completely spontaneous, and totally not something I'd usually do, but yeah, we chased them down.

Gabby - Fucking awesome.
Nikky - What a bitch.
Marina - ??? I seriously don't know. She didn't talk.
Jenn - Hot Hot Hot.

Long story short, Gabby gave us her number *without request*, which was neat.

Andrew and I and also Ben Barrows [randomcrayon on mod] go down to the club and have a great time.[Well, at first anyway.] Gabby and I get closer and closer, to the point where I discover her belly-button piercing, and drop to my knees for a closer look. Woo.

The night continues, and eventually Nikky pulls me away from Gabby, dancing. I say, playfully, "Hey now, that's not fair."

She responds, "Hahaha, she's mine now!" and then leans in to my ear and says, "She has a boyfriend and you're not going to touch her."

Fun. Thanks for telling me.

Chances are I'll phone her back, seeing as she lives in Toronto and will most likely never see me again anyway...

...or MAYBE, since sober Gabby never told me herself, Nikky is just being a bitch! Who knows?!

[A quick subnote: I was the only one of the three of us who was legal age. Ben was 16, Andrew was 17, but they both got in. Woot. As far as I know, Ben ended up making out with Jenn. Props to the man.]

~

Wednesday, July 28th:

Competition was today. I was at the Rialto thatre from about 10:15 until 7:50 I think.

My routine went "okay" at best. I had exactly one metric assload of drops, but magically advanced to the finals underneath Dave. He fucking destroyed me, freakin' Clavens kid.

My Shred 30 was "okay" too. I have it on tape, sooooo...if I'm wrong here I'll know later. A few drops, a few good pixie strings. Fell on Pixie Whirl and felt like a complete tool. Oh oh oh, but I landed a freakin' HUGE Pdx Flail at the end! Seriously, my leg dexed the bag at at least chest height. Woo!

Honza and Vasek went dropless for Shred 30, surprise surprise. Jim and Felix and I think also Dylan....or was it Brett...I don't know. Anyone, they came close to being dropless with drops in the dying seconds. I think. Fuck, I can't remember now.

The girls Andrew and I met didn't show up for the competition as they said they would, though I can't say I'm terribly shocked after last night.

Vasek did some hardcore beatboxing while Pete juggled. Pretty elite.

I ate dinner at a Chinese buffet place with Caleb A. and the Japanese crew minus Ken. They're so damn awesome. We were teaching our own language to eachother, Yusuke did some more magic, but seriously impressive stuff this time. The food was great. Seriously.

We left about 20 bucks on 130. I made the Japanese folk tip our waitress person. Mwuaha!

This part omitted due to its personal nature. :)

Y'know, I never did finish up the last few days of my journal. I just realised.

Maybe I'll do that now, eh?

fyi, the italicized bits are still my "editor's notes".

~

So soon after I finished writing up my Wednesday entry, I was relaxing in the UQAM lobby with Connor. Caleb was asleep on the couch, and he kept kicking in his sleep. Connor decided that we should film him kicking, so we did. Then I passed out.

Connor made some contributions to my open journal on the table:
Image

At the top, you can't see it but it says:
"If Kevin falls asleep, I'm gonna write on him.
Sincerely, Connor Campbell."

I think the rest of the stuff above the picture was also written by Connor....I'm not sure why it's in different styles of handwriting, maybe he was having fun with that. :)

I wrote the diagonal part on the right hand side when I woke up for a few minutes, still half-asleep. It says, "Blahhhhhhhhhh Hopefully nothing is written on me." I think.

Later I wrote, for my own future reference, "Written half-asleep. No, 75% asleep."

And that's Connor's artistic contribution too. :)

But continuing onnnnnn...

~

Friday, July 30th: (Really Thursday)

No I didn't miss a day.

10:45am: I've slept maybe 20 minutes. Unintentionally.

But I'll get to that later.

The day was cool. I placed 7th of 11 in finals freestyle Intermediate. There were like 40 people overall, so I'm cool with it. Dave won, surprise surprise.

Some fantastic routines were thrown down today. Jere Linnanen hit Backside Blurriest for his final trick, after hitting both blurriers and blurriests and Ripped Warrior. [Actually, he didn't hit both blurriers. My mistake.] So slick.

Maxime and Fred had some tight doubles going on. I couldn't understand half of what they were doing, but they definitely shuld have gotten first over the Czech team.

At any rate, my hip was feeling better, and with my routine out of the way, I shred it up. I hit Pixie ss Double Pickup and Pixie ss Double Switch.

Got back to the residence around 3am...shred from 3:30 to 7:00ish. [Yeah, still a.m. :)]

I was kicking with COnnor Campbell, Jonothan Schneider, and Lisa Whateverson from Michigan. Ricky was there for awhile, but I think he went to bed earlier on. Night 'til Dawn shred. Soooo much fun, and I played really well too! Smog both sides, Pigbeater almost both sides. I tried Pixie LegEATer like 30 times, and was coming very close.

So very close.

I need to drill Symple Pickups, horizontal-style. I think that should do it.

Caleb was twitching in his sleep. Heh.

~

Friday, July 30th, for real this time:

...continuing on from the lack of sleep on Thursday, Connor, Ricky and I headed out to the shred site early. Fell asleep on the grass.

AND I GOT A SLIGHT SLIGHT TAN! WOO! [It washed off in the shower.]

Otherwise, we watched some Net Footbag at the nearby net field. It's so crazy! Double's Women's finals were really cool. Some good rallies in there, it's really a lot more interesting to watch than I thought it would be.

Didn't shred for the day much at all. Mostly just acted as spectator between naps. Then, rain. [It actually woke me up from my sleep, some people were hardcore and stayed to shred, most people hurried to the bus stop.]

Took the metro with Ken, Bob Glasser, Mike Stokely, John Mahood, Richard Pearce, and Brad Nelson. John's pretty damn good at DDR. Besides the skills of our group, there was this crazy guy playing pinball. [CRAZY.] He'd scream/cheer in a high-pitched voice when things went his way, and yell out in agony when they didn't. His turn would come to an end, and he'd get so pissed off, he'd tilt the machine and the collapse on top of it.

So stupid. The whole concept of pinball, is that you WILL lose eventually, it's just a matter of when.

Got back to the residence and played a game of Scrabble with Jonothan Schneider. A smattering indeed!

Final scores...
Jon: 239
Kevin: 445

Woot. [I actually fell asleep halfway through the game. Not out of boredom, just from exhaustion. Jon was like, "Kevin, are you still playing?" and I acted like I was just thinking about my letters. I have no idea how long I was lying there before he said anything. :P]

I do what I can.

Edit: And we didn't get tan lines, we got burn lines...at least I did. Also, I was going all narcoleptic during the women's net finals. I'd pass out while the bag was in flight from the serve and wake up right as the opponent would kick it. Trippy...

Good times Kevin.

Editor's Edit: Oh and yes that was my handwriting throughout, I just felt creative(or lack of) and felt like changing it.

Saturday, July 31st:

FINALS HOLY CRAP!

So awesome. Every single open competitor ripped it up. ...and get this:

Open Shred 30:
1. Vasek Klouda
2. Honza Weber
3. Felix Zenger
4. Brett Campbell

Wow. As Brett said, "That shit goes on my resumé!"

I think there were 4 dropless routines, but unfortunately not Yacine's. I felt bad for both him and the French Doubles Team. Max and Fred were very very shaky throughout.

Otherwise, I shred a bunch thonight, both at the Rialto and back here at UQAM. I was actually in a circle with Sunil Jani, until the asshat before him kept self-serving. Sunil's pretty tight on etiquette it seems

Did some shoeless shred in the UQAM lobby with Ricky Moran, Lisa Whateverson and some other people. I don't remember.

Ricky found it pretty hilarious that I could do 12 contacts of unique pixie shuffle no problem, but couldn't Ripwalk back to back. Pinkussssssss!

[At this point I'd "finished" my entry, and then came back again.]

Oh wait no!

Sick 3 was so cool! [...though unorganized.]

Ken: Darkwalk > Blur > Paradon Swirl
Toni: Whirlygig > Whirlwind > Spinning Pdx Blender
Derek: Alpine Matador > Blurry Whirl > Drop.

And Jorden kicked with Vasekin a line, they were both trying toughass shit. Highlights:

Jorden:
- Frontside Tofu
- Floating Butterfly

Vasek:
- Whirlygig > Whirlygig > run > Spinning pdx Blender > Spinning Pdx Blender.
- Barraging ducking drop [There was an audible gasp from the spectators. :)]
- Frontside Nemesis sooooo close
- Blurry Blender > Stepping Blender > Blurry Blender

Gross.

~

Sunday, August 1st:

This is pretty much a continuation of yesterday, as I didn't sleep again. The morning consisted of more shred, but it was more of a "do whatever" circle than a "formal freestyle circle". I asked Chad to hit Gangsta Party, so he did. Just like that. Then he's like, "Hey check it, here's a fun trick," and tries Spinning Ducking pdx Double Blender. Pretty funny. He was toying with names for it too, and said, "House party? Nah that's lame. Mardi Gras!" though I'd suggested, "Big American Party!!!" [haha, yay obscure TV quotes.]

Oh wait, that was before we went outside. Whatever, outside was a fun circle too. :) [Oh yeah, I just remembered that as I read this sentence. He hit Gangsta Party for me in the UQAM lobby, but the guy at the front desk kicked us out because it was about 6am, and people would be walking through there soon.]

[...and I know you've already heard this part, but I'm putting it here anyway. :P]

Outside, Lisa, Chad, Ricky M. and Ricky H. are kicking, and this stoner zombie guy walks up to the circle. Completely lifeless face. Moran asked if he wanted to kick too, and the guy made a gesture that resembled a nod. [Resembled. Seriously.] The bag arrives at his foot, rolls off, and the guy just looks at it for like 15 scodns before Ricky picks it up.

Chad was laughing on the inside, totally, nd I was as well, seeing as the guy was so fucking fargone. Chad made some side comment about wanting to get his picture taken with him. I ran across the cement pad, grab my bag, and pull out my camera. Chad's like, "No man, you can't...no! We can't pull this off!"

I reply, "No no, we can. It's cool," in amongst stifled laughter.

Chad leans in, I focus the camera, and we're both shaking from not laughing.

Best. Picture. Ever. I was in tears, Chad couldn't stop laughing, and pretty much the same for everyone else who was there.

Half the humour pf the picture lies in the buildup to its taking though.

Ootthheerrwwiissee...I watched some really exciting net footbag. Finals were today, so everyone who played was there for a reason, as it were. ie: They were good.

Then I fell asleep at la Parc Mont-Royale. [I just remembered that Keita from Japan took a picture of me sleeping on the cement. He showed me later, and laughed. I wonder if I could get that from him somehow.] That felt really good.

Being the last day, everyone was playing hard. Vasek hit Spinning Blender > Food > Spinning Blender > Food > string. So sick.

I wanted to attend the final party, but I was feeling a little ill, due to lack of sleep most likely. I guess my immune system's taken a bit of a beating this week.

I don't regret a minute.

Monday, August 2nd:

Wlel, I'm at the airport. This week was really way too short. Too short, but worth every penny.

I got up feeling horrible, gainy voice, sore throat, stuffed-up nose. Blahhhh. So I packed up all my stuff, said goodbye to a *load* of people, some of which I probably won't see again for years. Then I headed out to the airport with Andy and Dat Phan. Cool guys.

[It's funny, I hadn't really met them prior to the last day. Makes me wonder how many people I didn't meet.]

I guess I'll be leaving in about an hour for Winnipeg, then home. Damn this week was amazing.
