A bad rule???

Why are we not allowed to post who we picked until after the voting is complete? Is it not more of a biasing factor to see the combos written out before we view them? For example in the intermed division, if I saw:

ripwalk>blur>paradon

vs.

sidewalk>blur>dimwalk

Id give it right away to the first combo. I might not even have to view the video. Its an easy cal, becaus ethe links in the first combo are harder. Just seeing the combo written out beforehand has already influenced my pick!

i guess Im just bitter b/c my post was deleted. I worked hard on it, it was a nice post, and it only propped people, but still, its no longer there.

I think that the combos are written because for someone it could be hard to see everyhting what happens in the vid. The reason is even better if the vid doesn't have slo-mo.

But I also think that giving comments should be allowed. If the voting stops after two weeks I don't give a shit anymore to give feedback to someone for their combos.

This was an idea I was toying around with.
OK, you know how you can't see the poll results until after you have voted?

Is it possible to not be able to see the rest of the comments until after you have voted?

I don't know what can be pulled off with this fancy message board software but if that was possible then we could comment all we wanted and it wouldnt matter one bit.

That's a good idea Mosher, although I doubt it could be implemented.. at least with the way the board is set up now.

As for your comment Jeremy .. I didn't get to see your post, so I can't comment specifically. However, you knew (or should have known) the rule was in place, and you could have waited until after the vote was over to put your comment. I will say this though, I've thought a lot about this rule and I'm not 100 percent sure if we will keep it. We may abolish this rule for the next competitions, we may not. However, for the time being it's still in place.

Like already mentioned, the combos are written out because it often isn't always possible to catch every component of the move/combo. A good example is Jeremy's open combo ... The first time I saw it, I thought it was nuclear mirage > atomsmasher > pixie torque. It wasn't he told me that I realized that the first set was actually shooting, and the second set was actually sailing. It was just because the dexes happened so fast that it is difficult to pick up on, that and the weaker quality of video.

Yes, perhaps you could just look at the combos and vote from that, but most people I hope would want to see the videos (since that is the point of all this, to see videos!) and I hope most people would judge on the entire package of the video (execution, cleanliness, etc) rather than just reading the combos and making a decision based off of that.

I definitely think people should vote based on the actual video. Mostly because you never know if anything will be `the` or not. If it were just based on the move descriptions, I could list a huge combo but hit it all really `the`, and put it in .qrg format, and win since nobody would see it.

I didnt vote in the intermediate or novice polls yet because in both cases, there was one video which I couldn`t watch. Based on the description of both combos, its possible that seeing them wouldn`t have altered my vote, but based on principle, I don`t think its fair for me to vote unless I see each candidate.

I agree with both sides:

Yes, its best if your vote is based solely on what you see, not other peoples comments.

However, as long as a combo is not trashed, I see no problem with propping someone in particular.

HOWEVER HOWEVER!!! The latter could be expressed until after the voting.

So I guess am in favor of the current rule...hehe

You can view the poll results before you vote. In fact, I was so confused on which of the combos were better in Open that I did not vote and simply went "View results" to see who was winning and where I stood (tied with last...sigh, lol).
