He`s right, punching the monitor repeatedly while yelling `Hulk SMASH! `just made my hand hurt.

Would it be at all possible to have Aaron Kirr`s sick 3 in mpg or wmv format? Like the intermediate comp, its a little frustrating not being able to vote due to one entry. I guess I can try and watch them at a friends house, but still.

Thanks to everybody who put in the time to make and submit videos.

Yes, it is

EDIT:

Also made Kaushik Amancherla's sick 3 a little more dial up friendly with alot smaller file size with minimal/very little quality loss, enjoy!

I think everyone just needs to open their eyes and realize that the novice level is higher than we thought :)

I thought these were very high combos for novices, regardless of their bails. Just because someone is a novice does not mean their combos have to strictly adhere to 2 adds. In a way, i agree, that by using a 3 add bail at the end does separate (so it seems) the intermediates from the novices.

If i may make a suggestion on classes, though it would be more trouble than its probably worth:

Instead of: Novice, Intermediate, Open

Take: Class A,B,C,D,E

A class is what open is now (4 adds or higher as a general rule)
B class is intermediate open (Easier 4 adds or higher)
C class is intermediate (4 and 3 adds)
D class is novice (3 add bails, possibly 4 adds)
E class is beginner (2 adds, possible 3 add bails)

This is just a very general idea, but I think this may sort it out a bit better.

Would enough people participate to require that many divisions though? I like the idea though.

Why dont we let it sort itself out? Leave everyone where they are. If someone wins 3 in a row they move up a division if they come last 3 in a row they move down a division?

I'm not sure if there would be enough people.

I like the idea of losing 3 in a row winning 3 in a row etc. But, I know for a fact that all of the open competitors are too good for my skill level, and based on the current intermediate combos, I'm too good for those. So thats where I think we need the filler areas. I think I'd be best in the B class, not the C class, but definatly not good enough for the A class.

we should make sure people who dont post on modified get to know about this tournament, lets make this big!

I suppose this tournament will be rough the first few rounds, we need more people to compete to have more similar levels of play. My footbag protege here in Ottawa is filming some novice-worthy sick3's so I did my part hehe. And I've spread the word to the Aylmer shredders who don't post here, and they are working on getting some sick shit on tape, that'll help raise the amount of competitors.

Are Kaushik Amancherla and Kestutis Baltakys on the forum? The names don't sound familiar. Kestutis reminds me of Defender and it's not just the ponytail either -- reaction and style (and THAT is the best compliment I think I'm capable of!!!!).

Good job everyone!! (How old are you Henry??????? -- loved the "YES!")

For a person's SICK 3 to be dimwalk>ripwalk butterfly is fine for the novice comp. Maybe that was a VERY hard combo for him/her. Its not fair to say that because someone was able to hit a 3>4>4 for example that they are no longer novice.
I don't agree AT ALL with that. I think that if you can do 3 butterflies or 3 osis in a row you are no longer novice. If you have played long enough to understand the mechanics of the delay, the ankle crank of the osis, the balance / momentum needed to perform links, you are not novice. NO one can buy a footbag at walmart and be busting 3>4>4 in a couple of days. It takes time, concentration, dedication and yes skill too.

I'm still in the forum, just don't like to write much ;] Thanks for the compliment Erik, now everyone in Lithuania will respect me ;], but I don't think that I'm that good especially because I don't have lavers (well I have the money just no f***ing credit card) and I think that it will be harder for me to play with them, and it pushes me to depression. ;] Do you think that Defenders style is cool? ;]

get rid of the division names, add a new one, let the skill level work itself out.

Habitat I was just wondering what codec did you use for WMV? Ill try and use that next time instead of divx avi since some people seem to be having problems with it.

Im really not sure, all I did was stick it into Premiere 6.0 and export it into a wmv file. If I had to guess, I think its Windows Media 9

If my run IS considered intermediate, then put me there ( although that run is my personal best, so I don't think I deserve intermediate yet but...). As far as drawing a fine line on the skill lvl of novice, intermediate, and open. I agree with just bumping 2 time winners up a class...that will even things out eventually, and encourage progression. BUT if i did have to find a way to draw a line between novice and intermediate....it would being able to hit two 4 adds in your sick three...I think the progression to a 3 add for novice (not begginer) players is not too hard. Like if these two sick threes were posted you know which one is headed for intermediate....

One form of judging came to mind as i viewed the combos
and read all the discussion here on modified.
Why not group up the sick 3 like the general skill levels are
divided : tiltless( 2adds or better), guiltless (3's), tripless...

I think this system would be quite fair and transparent, but on
the other hand i might lack practibility :?
Its hard to decide on this one from my noob perspective, but
i suggest it anyway, maby the more advanced heads come up
with something outta that !

Using adds as a division decider...that might fall apart. I'm winning the Intermediate competition right now.

Mine's a 3 > 3 > 3.

I definitely agree with changing the levels. I was debating about entering the first sick three, but I'm glad I waited. I too, thought that novice was going to be 2, 3 adds, with maybe a weak 4 add thrown in the mix. As it stands now, I don't stand a chance unless the levels are tweaked. Also, I think it would be encouraging for new players to up their game if they can win competitions against other novices.

I totally agree with Adam that winning against other novices will really encourage beginning players. That was a good point! If I competed against others and they were a lot better than me, I would feel depressed! Some might use that as motivation though... :P

I disagree with the above statements.

What if a person just has naturally good ankle crank? If that person can only link clipper-type stalls and hasnt learned toe tricks yet? Is that person still an intermediate? I would disagree with calling him/her an intermediate.

My girlfriend understands "the mechanics of the delay" because Ive explained it to her, but she is definitely not an intermediate. She cant clipper and she can barely hit 5 toe stalls. And whether or not you have balance for linking moves is irrelevant to being an intermediate. It is possible for a player to be able to hit a ducking ps whirl and not to be able to link 3 infinities because of a lack of balance. Do we call this person a novice b/c he/she can hit only 1 move? Or do we call this person an intermediate/pro because he/she can hit a 6-add?

Novice refers to a level of play, not the length of time playing. That being said, there has never been a gold standard that differentiates a "novice" from an "intermediate." Lets just have Posi-Cole create a proclamation.

Everyone who can do ________ and __________ must enter into the intermediate competition and will not be eligible to compete in the novice ranks.
