Laroche wrote:NO you WONT get a better pixie set. If you get a better pixie set from cutting the walls of your shoe, it means that the set is "THE". The reasoning is that because you cut the walls off and now its working properly, its your foot thats dexing, not the leg. Therefore, its thin and doesnt count.

Dont cut the walls off. There is no point in doing it. Learn to do the moves properly. If you do it properly the walls wont be a hindrance.
Ok, but what if I am using shoes other than Lavers that have an open toe box? Does it mean I will never ever get a good, without "THE" set?

You can still get a good set, just watch out how you do them. Watch Ales, Yacine, Seb D., and Lon do their sets for a good idea. Keep it straight and under you, use your knee to minimize leg movement. Dont be lazy, I think thats the number one thing to look out for.

I completely agree with what you said above, Laroche.

So the conclusion is that how good pixie set is depends on the player, it has nothing to do with whether he plays with the walls on or off. :D

It's a good topic btw, thanks Jas for postng it!

Thank you for putting it so eloquently, Nick. :)

To add to the list of players that pixie correctly and very consistantly: Justin Dale and Ricky Moran. Ricky's pixies are a good example of very fast and clean pixies. Justin's are slower, but equally clean.

some notes:

1) i just did consequtive smears in a pair of lavers with walls and without. i got 13 with no walls, 15 with. ta da.

2) i watched champions league, and there are a lot of pixies that arent right under people knees. alot of ryans are like, halway between the knee and ankle. just a thought.

glad we settled it all

I only cut the outside walls off my shoes. And I only cut up to one eyelet off. I think it sometimes helps with completely downtime Legovers, especially if it's at the end of a pretty big trick.

i dont cut mine off anymore cuz the pair i did it to, after time, the tight pull of the laces ripped through the leather and into the mesh and ruined it (i still did the lacing mod to open the toe box with this mod, thats probably why it ripped back, i dont know about lacing them up normally after removing the eyelets/walls tho..) I agree with Nick Laroche about the pixie sets

i also agree that the walls shouldn't be taken off. mine are on, but since i like my shoes so tight (footballs are laced looser than my shoes) the walls have ripped away, leaving me with these wing things (i'll post a picture later). i have noticed that i can get away with more unclean pixies like this, but i know how a clean pixie should look and how it should feel. i think once you get to that point, it's just down to discipline, walls or not. i mean, look at the clima coolers or the presto chanjers. you aren't going to say all their pixies are unclean because they don't have side walls? i think it's better to have them because it keeps you honnest, but at the same time, they aren't the be all and end all.

Vaska hits some really nice pixie moves in succession on Champs League in his intro section. The shot is in a gym, taken from directly above, you can see very little rotation of the bag in the air after the set, all the sets are like perfectly straight or something, he just moves around the bag
as far as i remember

I dont know if i could be fucked relearning pixies.. my first lavers were second hand with toe walls removed so thats how i learned
i guess i could try, but ive got so much other stuff to work on  i wish pixies could just be left as is lol

I cutted off mine. I learned pixies/fairys with my walls and I belive my sets are even stronger. Also, I think I was useing my walls as a crutch for toe stalls. Once I cutted them off, I was forced to stall the bag more and etc. so my toe stalls have became more clean.

Cut them off.
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

I recently practised my pixie sets and i can get pretty good height with them with little to no spin at all, but most of the pixie sets are kind of flukes...? i dunno if theres such a thing called a fluke in footbag.
But it is possible to do awesome pixie sets with the walls on, and i think im just going to stick with it and keep practising until i can pixie set 24/7.
The way i pixie set is point my toes inwards and my leg is bent so that my toe is directly beneath my toe cap or close to that and i set and shit my hip/leg across so it spirals up my leg and finishes on the inside of my knee.
I dunno if thats the right technique, but thats the way i usually do it now.

Cheers
