The resignation of Colin Powell

Just wondering what do you think about it?

Why has he resigned?
Who will do his job in future?
Is there a relation to bush decisions for the future , which a moderate person like powell cannot support?

Easily the least shocking of the recent cabinet shakeup. There has been speculation concerning Powell's resignation and one-term aspirations for the past couple years.

Why has he resigned?

Obviously we will probably never know the true reasons behind his departure (be they personal or political), but the popular theories include internal clashes with the Bush Admin due to his outspoken moderate views (particularly the not too subtle rift between the State Dept. and the Dept. of Defense concerning the Middle East), reluctance by the Bush admin to push Powell's number one State Dept. goal of forging an Israeli/Palestinian peace accord, and the possible loss of his previously near-deified status both domestically and abroad (Powell, the former HERO of the original Gulf War, has been relegated to the status of struggling to have his voice heard through the tangles of bureaucracy and giving embarrassing speeches concerning Iraq and WMD before the UN Security Council).

Who will do his job in future?

Some are saying it will be Danforth, but I can only imagine it will be everyone's favorite National Security Advisor, Miss ConD Rice (whose comments about returning to her position as Professor at Stanford was simply a euphemism for, "Bitch, where's my raise?!").

Also, don't be surprised if Tommy Thompson steps down from his Health and Human Services post. What my former governor was doing there is still a mystery to me.

Powell's leaving is a great thing.


Kain may have hit on a few of the reasons.


But I don't get Powell's supposed "obsession" with the Israeli/Palestinian issue. It's losing issue for everyone who's tried it.

The U.N. was a great place for Powell to flounder, because he was/is a closet believer of One World Government.


I think he should have been forced to resign after being fooled into inviting foreign observers in to watch our election.

Bush should have pulled him aside and said "Uh Colin, we are trying to WIN THIS FUCKING THING, what the fuck are you doing? Youre FIRED!"



Then Bush would make a speech announcing Powells resignation, and then say that foreigners would observe and affect the outcome of the election over his dead body. He would castigate Powell, and the congressmen and women who proposed the idea, for selling out America's election sovereignty.
Bush's base would be sweep him to re-election in an enormous landslide.

Good, I think Powell's career has been mostly a parody since "Gulf I" anyhow.

Man. Powell is/was a good man. His resignation was for 1-2 reasons.

1. He was/is against the war in Iraq unless more allies became involved which never happened, meaning he went against the President and what he thought. So maybe it was a forced resignation being that Condoleeza Rice is such a Bush puppet and pro-war mongerer. So she would be an obvious suitable replacement, who would back the prez no matter what.

or,

2. Maybe he was just fed up with the Bush organization and he waited to see who was going to win the election before he decided whether or not he wanted to resign. His resignation could be interpreted as an anti-Bush political message because he wasn't the only official that resigned, there were actually 6 that resigned at once... the minister of agriculture is the only who I can remember off the top of my head, but rest assured there are others.

Either way, such a popular man in American politics as he is should have ran for presidency in '96 when everyone was pushing him to and he didn't want to. Maybe he would have made a difference, but I guess we'll never know. Hopefully in the upcoming weeks/months he will actually give his reasons for resigning.

Yea dude, Condoleeza Rice is her name... as for Powell been a sketchbag, dont believe everything you hear on the news... Newsstations have alterior agendas and motives.
