Hey, I know there are a few of you web-savvy folks out there (I'm looking your way, Spadrick). I have the responsibility of redesigning the web site for my education program http://www.rsabg.org/research/ which is currently unbelievably shitty and inaccurate.

I have a general idea of waht I want the flow to be like and what the overall design to be. I have minimal skills in HTML , Adobe Illustrator, and Dreamweaver so I intend to build images in Illustrator, cut em up and assemble them in Dreamweaver, adding buttons, etc.

Sound good? Am I being an idiot? Suggestions?

simplicity goes a long way. Remember that.

I think one of the easiest ways to make a good looking website is to make a 2x2 table in the middle of the page.

something like that. You'd have a banner in the top right, a nice little image in top left, a nav bar on bottem left, and content in bottem right. You'd have to use an iframe for best efficiency in the content box.

NEVER use tables for visual formatting like that.

CSS is the way to do it.
