*Note* Im not well versed in the code stuff (Job's notation) so please feel free to correct me if I mess it up, or anything in general. Thanks for reading :-)

Okay, time to start my blog:

I wanted to start one for a while but my ability had been a little too much like a see-saw recently. I think Im back on track.

I guess what prompted me to start my blog today was: when I was home for a while between jobs I decided to school (thats right, I spelled it without a k) my clippers. I wanted to do clipper>same clipper as many times as I could because I had been trying to do it recently and dropping on or after the second contact. So over the last week or so I had gotten myself to be able to consistently do four on strong side (right foot stalling) and three on flip. Today I got 6 strong and 5 flip. Doesnt sound like much but it felt much better because I had a lot more control over the sets. So I decided to try clipper set>drifter, which I had not been able to hit before. I hit it! And since I didnt want to think it was a fluke, I hit it again. After I got back from work I had a mini-session and hit it again and then once more in a long string (for me). So that was super fun. As with every move, Im also trying flip but its just not working.

What Im going to work on over the next few months:
-drifter
-whirl
-illusion
-pdx mirage
-flip butterfly I can do it but its so ugly and theres no reason for it to stay like that.
-becoming more comfortable with clipper>clipper. I want it to be second nature and be able to set it straight.

Ive hit all of them pretty recently, but not comfortably and never consistently (and hardly EVER in a string). Mostly a luck sort of thing. You know how when you try it 50 times and hit it once its not really that you have it. Its just that youve tried it enough times that the footbag gods have pity on you.

Anyway, the thing I think I need to work on the most is string length. Its pathetic right now, but I guess that comes with practice and being more comfortable with the moves I try to hit.

For a while I was going to San Francisco and kicking with Sunil & Ahren and sometimes Tuan or Tu. Last time I was there it was especially fun because I got to shred with Stan and Carol, who Ive never been able to be in a circle with. And I try to make it to some of Steves weekly shreds, but its hard with work since theyre on Tuesdays. Ive gone to a few SoCal jams since Ive been in Ca. over the last 3 or so months. Okay, this is getting boring. Later.

Today for different odd reasons both of my jobs told me not to come in. So although I had told myself I wasn't going to leave town within the next month (so I could spend more time on school work), I was able to go to Goldberg's weekly session at Stanford. I worked on whirl some and tried flip for the first time. I was SO close. I got it on my foot so many times but couldn't seal it... so frustrating. I need to set higher. I think my problem is still my stance when I do flip clipper. I have trouble making myself turn my shoulders so I can see the bag when stalling it. I hit strong side whirl once today, which I've done before but it's not something I'm good with yet. I also tried some paradox mirages. I can do them but only strong side and the set is still kinda problematic. So I'm going to work on plain clippers a bunch more.

Last night I was thinking about this: Which side is strong whirl if my right foot is better at clippers and at dexing?

In other words, it’s either right clipper/left dex, or left clipper/right dex. Since I had worked on my flip clipper recently, when I tried “flip” whirl today (left foot clipper/right foot dex) I was better at it than I had been when I first tried “strong” because today it was my right foot doing the dex. So maybe I was doing flip whirl and thinking it was strong side. Either way I guess it’s a useless thing to try to figure out.

My highlights for today were clipper>butterfly, pixie legover, and flip whirl (for the first time). I did the first two in strings.

And I answered my question. The right dexing whirl is my strong side but I just hadn’t been able to do it because of flip clipper.

Today I was able to go to Stanford again to shred. Steve was very helpful when I needed advice with some specific moves like when I was having trouble getting my illusions consistent.

I hit whirl twice again (on what used to be "flip" but is definitely strong side) and drifter one out of three times. I find myself trying to justify not being able to hit flip at all, but there is no justification waiting for me... just practice.

I was going to ask what an infinity is because I was having trouble finding it on a moves list (okay, so in reality I only looked for less than two minutes) but was told that it's a clipper-set butterfly. So that's like a paradox butterfly, right? Then I had done them before but didn't know (or didn’t remember). So does that mean there is no butterfly>butterfly, that there is only butterfly>infinity>infinity>infinity and so on?

My strings were pretty nice in length and variation (the little I have). Oh yeah, I hit flip osis (for the first time) a few times. I still can’t get osis to osis. But again, schooling is what’s needed.

I was going to say that I'm still not happy where I am in my game, but I guess once you're really happy where you are you stop trying to progress. Either way, I’m still enjoying myself so much, which is what I really care about.

It's so frustrating to see someone who's promising start out. They don't know how much of a community there is for footbag; how addicting it can be sometimes when you're on a streak of learning new things. It's so hard not to say "Give it a real chance. Footbag can be integrated into every aspect of your life; footbag will sustain you." But then, I'd come off like a freak who's way to into it and the person would still have no idea.

...maybe I just need to get out more

yeah basically infinity is a clipper set op side butterfly. So the first one is either just your clipper set or a butterfly then infinity and each butterfly after that is an op side butterfly so butterfly>infinity>infinity>infinity....

If u see someone with potential you can atleast point them in the right direction. Teach them moves, point them to www.footbag.org etc. They might think your a freak whos way to into it but thats there problem, theyre not gonna learn something great. Take a look at all the discussions about being told they have to much time on their hands

Oh yeah, that's all being taken care of. It's fun to teach people new stuff. I was just saying it's frustrating because we've all seen people who dabble a little but then fall off. It's the idea of wanting someone to feel what you feel about something just because it is so great. The closest thing I can compare it to is religion. I'm not religious (at all) but I bet that this is what it feels like to feel like you have religion, this beautiful thing, that could make someone so happy if they would only open themselves up to it.

But, yeah, the standard "welcome to footbag" advice has been/is still being given.

Sigh, that is a pain I know all too well. I meet lots of people that I KNOW could benefit greatly from footbag if only they saw it's potential.

I know I have gone a ltitle overboard with my footbag obsession, but for once I have found something entirely deserving of so much of my love.

I'm glad you found footbag and have seen the light.

I hate it when your trying to get kids into footbag, and if they stuck with it and learnt toe delays and toe kicks they would be hooked.

The true believers are the ones that work hard and shred hard.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I worked on osises (osi?) today. I got osis>osis for the first time but I'm having a lot of trouble with getting the third one in, no matter which side I start on.

I think one of the problems is that I tried doing osis to other stuff before I could do the other osis, so the first one isn't used to setting to the correct place for the next one. I don't even know if that makes sense the way I said it. :? ...too much food in my system for me to be able to think correctly... mmm, pumpkin pie.

I came really close to flip drifter but couldn't get it which was really frustrating, just one of those sessions.

You're the Emily I met in Montreal, maybe ?? This is John here, hope everything is going well with the big move out of Chicago. It seems your shred is doing just fine, just wanted to send some big props your way for osis > osis. It took me forever to learn osis, let alone flip osis. It was just one of those baffling moves for me in my noobian days.

Oh yeah, and the big move is treating me pretty well. My roommates and I get along great and it BEAUTIFUL here. In Chicago they had their first frost/snow two days ago, and here I can walk along the ocean (5 min drive from my house) in a long sleeve t-shirt and not feel chilly.

Yeah, yeah, just rubbin it in our faces aren't ya? Well, I'm leaving town early Sunday morning. I trust you'll keep the boys in line during my absence. After all, you will be the Czyk In Charge  I still think it sucks that I won't be seeing you when you come back. Anywho, glad to hear your shred is going well, I'll talk to you when I get back.

...well that was the basic plan, I was hoping one of you would read this. :D Have a safe trip and take lots of pics. Miss ya too.

Today I tried and hit bubba for the first time. Flip illusion is kickin my ass. I can't get anywhere NEAR close to it.

Whirls: I tried the method that someone suggested to me, to put a stick (I didn't have a stick so I ended up using a tv antenna :)) horizontally about knee height and do the move without a bag making sure to dex the stick. I think it does makes me more aware of the height I'm trying to dex at compared to where it should be, I guess that's what it's supposed to do.

I think I'm going to change my overall health starting with my diet. I realized the other day that I've eaten almost an entire 16 oz. container of Miracle Whip on my sandwiches over the last month. That's just gross. So starting tomorrow I'm switching to healthy food. ...but until tomorrow morning...
