Whoa:

Blurry Whirl BSOS first try (My first 5 bsos)

It was like Parkwalk > Blurry Whirl > Osis > Infinity > Blurry Whirl > Same Butterfly > Ripwalk > Blur > Legbeater > ...

I also hit:

Blurry Whirl > Reverse Swirl
Drifter > Whirl Repeat
Osis > Reverse swirl Repeat

Flipside Pixie Whirl (OMG THE HARDEST MOVE EVER FOR SOME REASON)
Flipside Smoke

Yay for me.

First time I have updated for a while, I've been on guard duty in which we constantly are posted so I'm using a little bit of my time to keep anyone who reads this anymore updated.

Lately I have managed to hit the following:

New Records:

10 Spinning Clippers (Strong)
6 Spinning Clippers (Flip)
11 Ducking Clippers
10 Ripwalks
3 Atom Smashers
6 Whirls (BS)
6 Gyro Clip
4 Spinning Butterflies
10 SS Butterflies (BS)

Spinning Clipper > Ducking Clipper X8
Spinning Clipper > Gyro Clipper X8

New Moves:

Alpine Fear
Alpine Fairy Ducking Clip
Alipine Fairy Ducking Butterfly
Wiggle Walk
Symp. Whirling SS Butterfly
Toe Set Swivel

New Combos:

Fairy Op Butterfly > Stepping SS Whirl
Whirl > Rev Swirl > Osis > Repeat
Torque > Infinity > Repeat
Dimwalk > Blur Repeat
Parkwalk > Sidewalk > Schmoe (BS)
Whirl X2 > Osis > Repeat
Rev Swirling SS Symple Pickup BSOS
Spinning Pdx Mirage > Legbeater

That's all I can think of right now off the top of my head. I will probably not be able to update again for another week but I'll do my best. I see my Eugene buddies progressing like mad and I am pissed I can't be home to witness it, maybe in a couple months....

Hope to be home for Christmas and hit some jams,

I was in a rush yesterday when I updated the above so I will throw in a little more description today.

We were told after training the other day that our (7) Month deployment meens, (7) months in Iraq instead of (7) Months away. Since we left in May, this makes it January 28th now instead of like two months sooner. Alot of guys are frustrated because they have kids and wives that were planning Christmas for them and now it's not going to happen. This will be my first holiday season not at home, it should be an experience, I really think the platoon will get alot tighter going through this though.

I forgot to update some new stuff yesterday:

Ducking Mirage > Ducking Butterfly > Ducking Pdx Mirage > Repeat

Infinity X40 :o

Rev Swirl > Blender BS
Rev Swirl > Dyno BS

That's all, not much but it was something. I really want to hit my other challenges in my section but they keep being soo close it's frustrating. Maybe some more challenges would help?[/img]

Yesterday I played a session that really needed something more so I made it short. It seemed like I couldn't hit anything, Torque and Drifter were almost elusive, and my clippers weren't landing and setting how I like. I only managed to hit two new combos:

Ducking Clip > Diving Clip > Ducking Clip > Diving Clip > Spinning Clip > Gyro Clip > Spinning Clip > Gyro Clip (No Seal)

Ducking Butterfly > Ducking Osis > Repeat

I think I'll be able to play at my new location as much as I did at Najaf. I hope so, because I need to start schooling again...

Thanks man, it would be great if one day I could go to Europe and shred it up with you guys. Maybe I'll visit my grandpa in Norway in a few years and see what I can work out, it would be insane to shred there.

I haven't gotten another opportunity to play. Up north here in Iraq we are getting a really strange drizzle. The ground is wet and muddy and the weather is still warm but depressing. I also don't get much time off right now but maybe that will change, I want to try my challenges a few more times.

I got to go, squad meeting...

I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN I HIT RUBBERMAN

Holy shit what a good session today. It started out dead and I had nothing in mind to hit, I jus t wanted to play. I played outside under some cover and inbetween lunch and dinner, roughly 14:30. I did like 200 kicks, alot of stretches, and tried to get the knot out of my back that I created from lifting too much. Slowly I worked up, kicks to two adds, two adds switched to clipper combos, and from there the threes kicked in. I sucked. I wasn't landing shit, so I slowed down and worked the shit out of my foot. I used a stretch that Noah Jay Bonn taught me to stretch your ankle and flatten you foot and it worked. From there it took off.

I did a few runs with bsos threes and fours. Then I wanted to step it up and something popped into my mind. I remember I was reading the challenge forum and the challenge was terraging butterfly. I had to try it. My third try, I nailed a PHAT , super clean (the bag was still going up!), Terraging op butterfly!!! Oh I was syked and I had one of the squad leaders in my platoon witness it. I hit it two more times later to make sure it wasn't a fluke but they were thin compared to my first which I wish I could have taken footage of. It also helped me realize how to set a furious set so I did a few attempts of that with a little luck.

So I was in a good mood and wanted to celebrate with some tripless. I did some 10-12 run that had sidewalk > ripwalk > repeat and spinning osis > pdx whirl > spinning osis in it, I can't remember the rest. That got me thinking to try rubberman again since I was shuffling well today and my atomics were feeling nice. I tried like ten times and I was going no where so I gave up on it for a little bit...

Then out of the blue I thought about trying another tripless shuffle and it appeared right there: Atom Smasher > Legbeater > Blur > Repeat super sealed right into the hand.... I know standard rubberman's are off of the blur but it's the same damn thing and I'm so happy none the less. I threw my bag down in shock! Oh my god I am still happy just thinking about it.

So what I hit today includes:

RUBBERMAN
Terraging op butterfly
Furious set (but I need to learn how to put less stress on my knee and clear the mirage easier. )

Awesome day.

Kinda off topic but kinda not, were you involved in the falluja assault yesterday? If so, what's it like? How's the battle going?

Dang, finally have time to write more then a few sentences and bolt. Hehe, I don't even think I wrote down all of what I have been hitting but I have to remember it all off the top of my head in seconds so blah.

To James:

Thanks for the props on the moves, locomotion was there like a month ago, I just couldn't seal it. The last one popped right up into my hand, maybe I'll try a six > six combo with it, . I couldn't believe when I was nuking out of pdx legbeater that day, I really wanted to hit pdx legbeater > pdx atom smasher but couldn't pull it off so I settled with the tap, maybe another day...

In reply to the other shredders:

The tarraging set is pretty much just a double pixie. It is all out speed and the right setting hieght like any other double dex set. I have always had a quick datw with my in/out right foot and have been able to hit some dangerously slow datw's so that really helped the set. My first dex is done pixie style, the second is quantum.

The marines here have really came around with footbag, when I first showed up it was ridiculed but I never stopped playing so they either watch, comment, or don't say shit. I had a few officers watching today that were quite impressed, it was fun.

The assault on Fellujah can be heard from my room but I am not part of the action. Our job is doing something else that I cannot detail right now but maybe a few months down the road when it doesn't matter anymore.

I'll keep updating with new moves as much as possible.

I am so depressed when it comes to footbag right now. No motivation at all. I played today for the first time in like two weeks, I just worked basics, nothing new, ten of every two add both sides consecutively. Just that and I was already canned for the day. I really need some motivation, if I could just find someone to play with for one damn day...

Maybe it's due to the recent news. Once again, my planned departure date home has been moved forward. It is now late February - March time frame. Another three months. :(

I'd love to come back busting as if I have been within the states kicking the whole time but I don't see it anymore, that drive to play is dissipating slowly. I can only get so good by myself with no one to critique me. I seem to be doing the same old combos, dropping on the same old move, and my flipside everything is not where I want it. Bah, enough banter, I'm out until next time.

Chin up bro, you'll be back soon enough. I know how you feel about motivation. I got 2 of the best kickers on the planet less than an hour away and can't get them to drive up for shit. I always go down there, but it would be nice if they came to visit. Richie has been to my place once, which was awesome, but Jason hasn't made it yet.

Anyways, I think if you are struggling with motivation, then maybe you should pick a new set of combos to bust. I mean, if you have a string dialed, add to it, or find the place where you drop everytime and start from there. I kick by myself all the damn time so I know a little bit about self motivation.

Drills are boring, so only do those at first to warm-up. Then spend a few minutes trying something completely out of character from yourself. I have hit many new moves and broken many ruts this way. One day I wasn't hiting jack, so I just started trying rev. swirls. Now I spend whole sessions just on swirls. I haven't hit that lame ass same old combo in forever and don't miss it. I mean you know what you can hit, so now try something you can't hit. Might just be what you need to get out of a rut.

NO!!! Don't say that Aaron! Look at Jim Penske, he learned alone and busts bigger then almost anyone! You can EASILY get better working alone!

Stay motivated, think of how awesome it will be when you get back to the states and are shredding with everyone again! You are too talented and athletic to give up a shred of motivation. Keep working hard as if you were going to shred with us the very next day! Soon that day will come and you will be more than ready!

I don't want to hear anymore nonsense about low motivation k? I am looking forward to you coming back more than anyone and I am schooling my ass of so that I can keep up with you. Work everything, your sets, your downtime moves, and your strings.

I have a critique for you right now, lengthen your strings! Make sure you can bust 30 guiltless, even lower the difficulty of your combos to make that a reality. When you come back I want to see awesome 10 move genuine combos, and sweet and styley 30 contact runs! You know what to do, don't pretend like you don't. You have the talent, you have the knowhow, and you have the athleticism. Do not give up when you know all of this to be true.

I know it sucks that you are in Iraq... It makes me very upset as well, but I'll be damned if I sit back and watch that place take what makes you so happy away. I won't pretend that I know exactly how you are feeling, but footbag can be your escape man, remember that.

Your footbag game will probably never be where you want it... I have come to understand that, because the better I get, the more stuff I want and the more weakness I see. You have to let the bad feeling associated with that go, and realize that it is a huge motivator for practicing more. Have fun with footbag when your days are going lame, and maybe go back to that stuff after your mood improves that day.

I feel for you Aaron... You have all my good thoughts with you, and I know lots of people extend you their best wishes and read your blog like crazy wondering how you are getting along.

Now get out there and shred.... HARD!!!!!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Maybe I'll try to look at the bright side of things more as far as the game is concerned. Motivation perhaps wasn't the right word choice. However, somethings are missing from my game that I can't seem to improve upon. String length won't improve for shit, it's no better then it was a year ago, only the moves have increased in difficulty and uniqueness. I wish I could keep the bag going for as long as you James and especially Nate but it never seems to work out. I've spent entire sessions on string length to no avail. Then I come back to Oregon like last time and see you bust 26 ducking clippers first try... jeez, I can't to half of that and I work them all the time. I'm not comparing shit with that, it's an example to show how I feel.
If I do a run with fifteen moves in it that is like my best run for the day, I can't top it unless I resort to just butterfly, p mirage, and osis. Even then, if I combine simple combinations I DROP on a BOP during the run. What gives? I've done BOPS so many times since I began playing I can do any combination of them in my sleep but I seem to drop when it matters most. This extremely frustrates me and I don't see how something I've inbedded into my memory fails, repitition is mastery my ass.
Another issue is my flipside, it is so frustrating. I have hit triple around the world with my strong side but I can count on one hand how many doubles I have done with my left. My flipside pixie won't seem to improve either, I try to begin runs with it to form combo's and drills but it doesn't make it improve any, not even if I attempt to throw it in mid run does it budge.
Practice makes perfect but I swear I have practiced some moves to the extent that when I drop on them I just want to quit right there on the spot. It's rediculous that something like a spinning clipper won't land even though I drilled it ten times consecutively the session before. Yes, it happens to most, but it occurs frequently to me. I hate hitting something one day and losing it the other, that's not improving, it shows a fluke in my game.
I really need to stop ranting or I'll get depressed. What I need is someone to play with to critique me on the spot.
