Montreal Footblog
That's what practice is for mathieu! You're already improving really fast, even my girlfriend noticed, though she has an eye for footbag. Get those clippers working!
Last nights session rocked, and I'm so pumped right now, which is a complete switch from sunday when I was considering quitting footbag for good. I was playing with Eli and Caro and they were using their difficult 32s! I was having so much trouble, everything was off and I felt like all the progress I've made is all for naught.
Last night made me feel better. I actually hit hopscotch (hopping pdx mirage) though it went flying madly towards Eli and he kicked it back to me for a joke seal but I wasn't paying attention. The set was good enough for pdx drifter or barfly. I can't wait to nail them. And as Nick mentioned I hit toe blurriest super clean. And the combo was datw>paradon>barfly>spinning clip>spinning butter>scorpion's drop....I think, or maybe it was two different strings. I completely agree with Nick, links are the second most important quality in a footbag player. There's seems to be a lot of pressure for quantity in string length when quality is vastly more important. For instance would you rather have 30 contacts with ten butterflys or 20 with genuine madness? I love doing simple links that nobody does.
And I also got my big pimpin' footbag that Marc (and Claudia?) made for me, it's gold and baby blue and it's amazing. They are so cool, I can't wait till they start making some crazy 32s. Speaking of which Kolo had this 32 from some random guy in Poland and it was the best footbag I've ever played with...EVER.
I NEED that bag, but it's 30 bucks and I don't have a job. Ahh c'est la vie. I'll have to apply at Mcdonalds or Harveys soon. Especially if I want to go to Chilly Philly!!

The shred was last night, NDA is where it all went down..
There were something like 10-11 of us, which was the most I've seen shredding there. Whats exciting is that most of the players are "new generation" montrealers, which might take a tiny bit of explaining. For me at least, all the players I used to shred with dont play anymore. The only one is James, Kolo, and Sebastien sometimes. Eli doesnt count because hes not from around here. Marc Giard plays sometimes, but he lives far, and it is difficult for him to make it downtown. He still has one of the best styles ever though.
But there used to be like a LOT of francaphone players who I "grew up" with in the circles that have stopped playing. The problem was that no NEW players were showing up to replace them, so I'd show up at NDA for a shred, and there would be like 1 or 2 other people.
Thanks to flipsider, Kolo, and who knows what else, the ranks are now re-filled, so there is more people to shred with then before.
Anyway, enough history lesson let's get down to buisness:
Looks like the Montreal crew will be heading down by mini-van to Philly, starring ELI PILTZ!! Im glad he could make it, this will be sweet. We got a place to crash as well, which is great. I believe there will be 4 of us, though a certain unknown, but very good (as in close to my level) shredder might come as well. Its gonna rock ass.
We tore it up yesterday, and it looks like everyone was playing great. I played FANTASTIC, and had TONS of 20-30 contact strings, all genuine, and was hitting some really fun combos, stuff like Fog > ss muted grifter, Mobius > Swirl > Whirlwind, Sunilwalk > Blazing Pdx. Illusion. I also hit a new move, nuclear same illusion, which is a really hard move, for me at least. Oh yeah, and Grifter > Void > Scorpions tail. I felt great, and SO in control of where the bag was going.
Im excited for James, his strings are getting an average contact of 10 now, which is up from his 6 previously. One of my favorite players, I love his CLEAN style, perfect motions every time. Very crisp, without being robotic looking. Can you guys say.... HOPSCOTCH?!?!?! Hopping (a hippy bubba set, but a TRUE set, still going up) Pdx Mirage. As well as Hopping same mirage. He is also close to RIDICULOUS moves like Hopping Barfly, and Hopping Drifter. Unbelievable moves. Props!!
Eli hit some pretty good strings, and SPINNING PDX DOUBLE-PICKUP!! WOW!! Massive trick, I have no idea how his skinny bony legs can move like that. Lots of barrages and barflies, good stuff.
Ianek was playing well, but he has a consistancy problem, which is weird, because he has a pretty good mastery of pretty much everything. All the moves will be good upto contact number 7, where it starts deteriorating, for some reason. In any case, he DID get some good strings in, and some great moves, nailing toe set Double Pickup, and Blurry Double Pickup (on his OTHER side) in the SAME STRING! As well as like a blurry whirl and something else, it was just fantastic, I wish I could get to shred with him more often, hes so good. I also like his little Blender > Twirl combo, a true Ianek staple.
Caro nailed a Ripwalk > Barroque (sealed, midstring), which is HUGE. Cleaner then Vasek's Barroque, by far. Unfortnuately, even though there was 2 cameras there, it didn't get caught on tape. BUT watch out im sure she can hit it again for camera.
Hm what else, Marc close to TATW, Claudia hit a whirl, and some other stuff. I think she is a better freestyler then her boyfriend, though both are learning RIDICULOUSLY fast. I bet you in about 2 years if they keep playing I'll be getting skooled like there is no tommorow. At only 20 years old, I FEEL old compared to all these young whipper-snapper up and comers.
All in all, a GREAT night! Next shred will rock as well, of course. I vow to hit Swiftering Osis next time. I came REALLY close to it tonight, though thin. The trick is jumping high and turning alot. I'll practice swivel to get used to it.
ps: A great technique invented by mr.Piltz to deal with slippery floors is keeping some wet-paper folded up (you know those brown ones always found in schools and other buildings, in the washrooms) next to you on the floor. Step on them lightly, and you should have grip tighter then Ales's barflies for about 3 runs. After that, once it wears off, just step lightly back on the papers. Works awesome.
Im out now.

no mention of me nick
I had a pretty average session.. but I ended great with pixie legover> cliper> double legover> cliper> double legover!
I think it's the best string I've hit yet.. even tough it's small
see you all monday! and I'll try to set up my camera to keep filming while everyone is playing so I don't miss the good stuff!

Mathieu Gauthier
Ya Mathieu it's gonna f*n rock. I still need to get a few hopping moves on tape, and might as well get toe swifter while I'm there. I want to just try moves for a bit next session and see what we can get.
That is if my injury has lessened in intensity.
Nick you're just mad because you can't help liking impractical moves, and because I'm closer to dt swifter than you even though I've never tried it before and HATE it
muahahaha.
and on another note, there are lot's of things I can't breathe that I love. Like Christmas logs, they are so damn good I wish I could breathe them.

my first blog-related post
Hey, cool blog. ;-)
Re: Pdx Swifter. I was thinking I'd have to hit a harder variation for massive status. But then again, even Vasek hasn't hit it, nor anyone else that I know of. Honestly, it's hard for me to judge these days what is massive; I mean some things like Cheese Processor are clearly superior, but Pdx Swifter or Spinning Pdx Double Pickup... I just can't say one way or the other. In my own mind, if I hit a really hard move, it's not really that hard anymore- but yeah I guess that's the point, to reach new heights. Maybe I should enable a voting feature on the new site to let YOU, THE COMMUNITY decide which moves are massive. Thoughts?
Speaking of inventions, Matt asked if Nick invented Pdx Swifter, even though he hadn't hit it (though maybe Matt didn't know). In case there's any confusion, conceptualizing and even coming close to a trick does NOT give someone the right to claim an invention- a move is not invented until it exists. And btw, I had tried that move a few times before Nick even played freestyle, so there go your rights, buddy. ;-)
Take care, guys. Don't read too much into the above comments. Just writing off the top of my head.

Patent pending. .. I did not "invent" that.Laroche wrote:ps: A great technique invented by mr.Piltz to deal with slippery floors...

Ellis Piltz
Flipsider, The New.
Flipsider, The New.
Eli nailed pdx. swifter with perfection and style though, way better then I have, the invention is his. Props!!
I also thought I had came up with it, didnt realize Eli thought it up a few years ago, my bad.
In any case, I'll race him for vortex swirl!
I just found an old CD of mine lying around, with nothing written on it. Shrugging, I popped it into my computer... Its ALL FOOTBAG FOOTAGE! Its great, all the classics I couldn't find anymore, the Summerfallings, Konabeach, Chan's CSS4, and all sorts of old vasek stuff, like all the telocnivicna's (1-4), trebic, jihlahva, and all thats stuff.
I haven't felt pumped up about footbag like this for a while!! Im soo exctied about shredding.
On another note, what ever happened to people like Brian Parsons, Jonzy, Brian Johnson, Rob Fuller, etc? It feels weird that I haven't seen nor heard of anything of these people for like a year or 2 now.
Shred tommorow!!! Im pretty happy!!

Its been a while.
Not much new, life ticks on, and Chilly Philly is just around the corner.
Yashine the Fiend Merzook is coming! I was sure he had quit footbag. I haven't seen sebast in a while either, i dont think he is coming. Its gonna be great. I cant wait to see the touque, thrilla, mcgrogan, behnam, ec. again. Will rock.
An Eli string from not too long ago: Pdx Swifter > osis > butterfly > Vortex Swirl ON FOOT!!!!! So close, it was good. Same with blurry swifter. Much applauding.
I also relized how bad i suck at playing piano, especially when someone is like "alright so play something for me". I dunno, its gonna take a while, I just started.
MATT CROSS you have to contact me for the song
I know you have stuff done PM me and we'll work something out. If you dont want to put lyrics or cant come up with some thats fine.
Duck tape is going to be my savior this year, I cant afford new lavers. Im also hesitating again on gunits because of the bulk factor.
James you loser if you read this come over to play Halo 2 tonight, will be funfun, I dont work tommorow.
Watch out for some stylie dance moves by me and mark on the next video, should be cool cool.
This post should propel views into the 2000's, making this blog better then it was before it had 2000 views.
I have to go now, so I will leave one final word for all of you:
Salubrious.
Byebye, till next time droogies

Droogies??? That's the best thing you've ever come up with.
Do NOT hesitate on the GOONITS, they are the BEST shoe EVER!
I played yesterday after having the week off because of a summersault gone horribly wrong and I felt so damn sluggish it was like I was a Resident Evil zombie. But by the end I was feeling more like a Dawn of the Dead Zombie (new version where they're fast as hell).
I got scared because it felt like I was injured in four different places. My left knee was aching from spins, my right from whirls, my quad tendon from conseq corpse grinders raised really high, my back from a pixie set. I thought I was a leper and all my limbs were gonna fall off.
PLus I was using a dreaded revolution bag. Those things are so lifeless, I need a 32 dammit!
In any case I did manage to hit slaughter for the first time. Super clean.
I was trying some ducking-ducking (where you duck but then pass your head over it again the other way) and diving-ducking (dive then duck) and double diving and double ducking but my girlfriend said it all looked ugly. I'll have to see for myself on video.
That's it. Might play tonight if I'm not feeling lazy, but I think I am.

I'm lovin this multi person blog....
a bunch of people who shred together all posting their own stuff...thats so sick!
None of my shred friends touch the forum, and i can't even convince many of them to film....
But sick stuff going down in montreal...if you only knew what was going down in southern ontario..What!
( i guess you do though)
