How good?

I don't have anyone around here to shred with so I was wondering how good other people were when they played for 1yr, 1 1/2yrs, and 2yrs?
Like what tricks could most of you hit? Tiltless? Guiltless?

Just wanting to know if I'm behind or ahead of the game.

There is no ahead or behind the game. You are just at a certain stage in your freestyle evolution, and others are at their own stage. The only person you should compare yourself to is yourself. If you feel like you could be progressing faster than you are for various reasons, then analyze those reasons and figure out what you can do to fix them. Most of all just have fun playing footbag. Only push yourself as much as you can/want to. If there is a concept that you want to learn go out and have fun learning it!

2 1/2 years about and recently went guitless (around worlds) of this year. My runs blow though and I am onesided. I would say I average maybe 4-5 contacts per string and hit so many butterflys its sick. I hit some string of 4's but doubt I have hit over 6 in row (cept for like consec ripwalks)
If I could offer any advice work both sides, dont worry about hitting big tricks, and work on string consistancy and run length.

What james erickson said is extremely cool and extremely right.

I am in the same position as you (had no one to play with, until i ventured and shredded with jeremy o'wheel, dan ednie, etc) except i am started to get a few mates into it now.

It is up to you what sort of shredder you want to be. You can go out and hit lots of new trick. or you can concentrate on the two adds on both sides and become a consistent tiltless shredder, Its up to you bro. In all of your choices but, if you are not enjoying it, change it up.

The thing is I'm the kind of guy that needs someone around to strive to be better than or to match to do my best. So I wanted to see what other people could do at these points and try to match them or more.

Thanks for the welcome. Footbag is a great sport. Been doin' it nearly everyday since I discovered there was more than basic stalls(a little less than a year maybe) and it's still as fun as ever.

I've been freestyling since right before summer, but before that I could hit clipper ok and ATW sometimes, and I can hit pretty much any 2 add either side, and a couple three's like butterfly. My string length is usually around 10, but that's only if I'm doing easy tricks... I find that people progress at vastly different rates, and some people find some tricks easier then others.

If you're playing footbag SOLELY to be better than the next guy, you're playing footbag for the wrong reason.

If that attitude endures, you're never going to be happy with your game, because guess what? There's always going to be someone better than you. The exception is obvious.

Instead, focus on being a better shredder than you were yesterday, or last week, or last year.

There isn't a level you "should be at" by a certain timeframe. If you are content with how much you've progressed after that period of time, why should it matter if someone else thinks you could have moreso?

I don't play solely to be better than someone else. I play because it's a lot of fun. Just looking for an extra push. Dunno why, just helps me to hear what others are doing.

Alright, that's cool. And you're right, it does help to play with guys who are better than you, mainly because in the event you miss a trick, they usually know what you're doing wrong.

Basically, you get better a lot faster. That's why tournaments are so fantastic.

Regardless, look to the community for your motivation. Make use of the Challenges subforum. Get to talk to and get to know some other footbag players, get them to help you out when you just CAN'T figure out how to Atomic set.
