Hood's House
Reporting in, today was my last day of school for 2004, oh that sounds nice...damn nice ! Bob and Brad met me after work for some shred at the clinic. I hit a couple new moves, such as paradox torque both sides, fog, some sort of inspinning osis, and that's about all. I was pleased with Bob's shred, it just looked better today, more consistant, and with more energy. Brad was looking pretty sharp except for the "I sucks" , but I'm quite used to hearing that, he was playing his usual game, not bad, not good, hitting some big moves left and right, but I just don't really really notice them because I'm so used to them all ! Bob hit surging rake, pretty sweet looking move.
It seems every time we start turning on the camera for some footage, we kick a bit more poorly than usual. We did film all of the sets, so hopefully Brad won't take forever, and I can update my page with the uptime sets for everyone, so if anyone is looking for tips, or just wants to study different sets, I should have that up once Brad finishes the video, so heckle Brad !! We kicked for about 2 hours today, and I think I'm going to start up the every day kicking, or atleast try for that. We'll see how devoted I can be !
Right now it's 5:45 am and the partay is ending, the drunken people talked about relationships as I overheard them while I was playing with photoshop. I'm fantasizing about the Yamaha R6 I'll be getting when I'm out of college, I'm trying to make a custom paint job on Photoshop, if I ever finish it, I'll post up the sweet ass lil ride I plan I getting.
Have a great Thanksgiving all !! Give thanks for all that is important to you, and try to notice all the little things that you might not notice normally !

I'm going to try and kick every day too...starting tomorrow because I don't feel like it today
I thought yesterday started out well. It was just after we filmed the sets and got cold that we started playing badly.
I slept really well this morning when I got home from the party around 6:30am. Now I'm ready for the big feast. food food food
Edit: Oh yeah, I was just joking around with my sister yesterday and asked her to try a clipper. I'm not sure why but it hurt her ankle to get into position so I laughed and told her to try a dragon thinking there's no way in hell that she could. But, she laid it out perfectly! I was so surprised. She even did a dragon with the bag and just held it there.

Today was the best Thanksgiving ever, well, weather wise, it was snowing !!! It was so odd how the weather has been just a bit nippy, but come today, it was freezing cold, and it was flurrying on and off. My hips are a little sore from shred, but not too bad, I'm so inlove with Sick '03 and Fourkast, such great DVD's. I finished my photoshop of the R6 paint job I'd like, it's my first concept, but I think it's pretty sweet ass. Check out the original pic, and then the customized paint job. If you don't notice , my paint job makes the bike go faster

Sleep deprivation vs footbag dedication.
Thursday night, I go to a friend's house, and I stayed over there a couple hours more than I intended on, about 4 hours more. My sisters are in for Thanksgiving so I go to my mom's house and crash on the basement floor with 1 small blanket, that equals cold cold sleep. I at that point had a cold so I woke up about 7 times to blow my nose, so that night was bad quality and not enough sleep because I can hear everyone waking up in the morning, and the 2 golden retrievers raided the basement..
Friday night I go to a party even though I have to go to work on Sat. morning. I stay there a little longer than I planned on, but would have stayed longer if that one girl wouldn't have passed out so fast, damn you fate ! I walked home that night and got about 3 hours of sleep and went to work the next morning a little distorted.
Saturday night we have a LAN party at my friend's house, so I was up untill 8 am'ish, I crashed on a fricken rug in their basement, I just went to sleep in a winterjacket with no pillow or anything. So again, I had to wake up about 4 times to blow my nose, and again, I didn't get much sleep.
Sunday night, this is where the VS footbag dedication comes into play. It is late evening, getting into night time. I'm very very tired, and I tell myself, I am GOING to play. So I start to drive to the clinic (where i work) and I nearly fall asleep a couple times. As I finally pull into the parking lot, I'm so tired to where I just go to sleep in the parking lot. I slept there for about 2 + hours and am completely disoriented when I wake up, I don't know where I am, and I had some very odd dreams. Not nightmare scale, but people chasing you, a scary monkey was in it, getting lost in my car, running through a city away from angry people. I remember now, it started that I was playing CounterStrike:Source in real life. Someone threw a concussion grenade and knocked me out. I could hear people running around, but I couldn't do anything...since i just got knocked out, I wake up, and people are mad at me because I've been an asshole or something ??? I don't know , I won't get into it. It was just very odd and scary. SOoooo...I'm still very tired, and I drove out there to footbag, I get out of the car, I go into the clinic and walk around for a bit in hope that I would gather enough energy to get my shred gear on and kick. Instead I walk around a bit, and decide to go back out to my car, start it up, and drive home. Sleep deprivation won that round for sure.

I've come to a simple conclusion, my left leg is too weak for everyday shred. I attempted to dedicate myself to shredding everyday. Well, so far so good, I've played Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (today). Today though, was a painful shinsplint day, so playing this much just takes a toll on my legs if I don't let them rest and recover some. I'm going to degress my shred time a little to 3-4 times a week, so I won't overwork my leg. It's too bad I can't push myself a little more, because I actually feel like doing it. Oh well, give it another year, and I should be a bit stronger.
After skooling spinning forever, I thought I had it down somewhat, I was quite excited, so I stopped to take a break for water. Oh, guess what, I came back, and I couldn't spin again. This was probably the longest time I've taken to learn spinning, and only to come back to point one. I'm not severly dissappointed because I'm completely used to not being able to spin well. I'm hoping that even though at the end of the session my spins weren't really better, overall, for the future, I learned something. All in all, I noticed I really need music to play, it fuels me, and what fuels me even more, is someone to play with. Therefore, I CAN"T WAIT TILL CHILLY PHILLY !!!!

That sucks about your leg. You'd improve so fast if you could play everyday. I did blizzard>toe blur bsos. This is a big feat for me because quantums either work well or I can't do them at all. I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't do it tomorrow. So I know how you're feeling with the spins, John.
I played to my NBK dvd. It's really fun to play to minus 1 or 2 sections. I played really well to the executioner song. Long and consistent, much like Pete, except not because I'm no where near as good as Pete, but you get what I'm saying. I did spinning clipper>high plains drifter>barroque>dyno midstring and after the string was over I realized how damn styly that was and congratulated myself because it came naturally and wasn't planned.
I have to drive 10 hours to Kentucky tomorrow to pick up some ice cream, yup. So I'm not going to be at the Friday session, if there was going to be one.

Because Kentucky has the best damn ice cream you must drive 10 hours to pick it up?
Great job you guys! Keep it up!
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

Crazy combo mr.Nelson, I like it alot.
And (dont take this badly) im not so sure about the everyday shredding. I think that its not as good for your game as once every 2 days because:
a) You get very tired, therefore play less well.
b) Are prone to more injuries due to exhaustian
c) Your muscles dont get a chance to rest, therefore you dont get muscle memory
Maybe you guys have stamina that I dont, if so props, but Im pretty sure everyday shred is not that great. It was definetly a cause or shin splints which put me out for a month, a while ago.

I agree with everything you said, I always played every other day, or more than one day breaks. With the exception of the first 2 years that I started, I seldomly played. Recently though , I thought I'd test that out, lighter shred everyday, it can't last with me. When shred is painful, it's not fun. If I can avoid the pain just by giving a one day rest, then glory glory hallelujah !

I can play everyday if I actually start. At times when I have, I usually improve a fair amount. It doesn't have to be hard session everyday. I can be just messing around for like 20 minutes. I think it keeps your muscles familiar with the feel and weight of the bag.
Contrary to my opinion and the statement that I'd start playing everyday, I haven't played for four days because I'm lazy so I doubt I'll start that up again. I don't have the footbag drive to play all the time like I did when I was a year or two into it.
I did play tonight though for a little bit until my sister kicked me out of the room so she could watch tv. I finally hit blurry whirl>blurry whirl>blurriest>blurriest. Score.

Thanks, I just might, Ken.
Today, I had a really refreshing session. I'm not sure why it was so refreshing, but when I was done, I had that feeling. I 5-ed it up most of the time. My fearless record (6) is the same, but I made it to it about 5 different ways. I just can't seem to break it.
I read a little on things I wrote a while back and realized how interesting this will be to read in a few years. It already is and it's only 5 months old. Makes me think that I should have written down experiences that I had at my earlier tournaments. I can't remember them in detail anymore. Funtastik 2001, PSTOFF 2, ECC 2002 would be nice to remember. I haven't really be in this sport as long as it feels. Though the sport seems to have changed a bit since I started in 2000. Here's something I did at ECC 2002 that I mysteriously got signed up for without my knowledge:
http://www.footbag.org/media/208/whirlwalk.wmv
I captured that a long time ago. I was going to make a Good Times video for that tournament, but I don't know where the tape is now. Maybe i'll just write down everything that I can remember in here sometime before my memory goes completely.

Since I'm an insomniac and am awake many hours before I have to go to class, I have time for a story.
I had just turned 17 and had already been shredding my heart out for a year. My dad, being the good man that he is, offers to drive Bob, John and I to Harrisburg for Funtastik 2001. I don't really know why he decided to do that. He didn't get it at the time and made fun of me constantly so I assume it was to make his only son happy, refer back to "being a good man." The drive there was uneventful because I don't remember anything from it except getting lost once we actually got to Harrisburg. We had to buy a map to find the tennis courts on Herr St. for the first day's venue.
When we finally arrived, I was nervous. I didn't know what to expect since this was my first time meeting any footbaggers. I'm also a shy person, not so much anymore, but in highschool I was really shy. It really is something special seeing in person the thing that you'd dedicated a year of your life for. Bob and John flocked over to greet Yacine and Seb because they'd met at ECC 2001 some odd months earlier. I didn't go because I was sick so this was my first time seeing BAP players. This is where it starts to get foggy for me. I think I naturally moved aside to play with people simliar to my skill. There was this one guy I played with for a long time. I haven't seen him since and I regretfully forget his name, but we both were very surprised when a Mr. Ken Somolinos walked over and introduced himself and played in our circle for a few minutes. This meant a lot to me on a lot of levels. He proceeded to bust superfly and other tricks that I couldn't fathom and my jaw dropped. He shook it off and politely took my props even though I could tell he wasn't impressed.
Later in the day I met Matt Cross. He told me that talking to pros wasn't a big deal and it's just like talking to regular people. My first thought being, "Ha! Yeah right." By the end of the weekend, I didn't actually talk to any one of them except Yacine and Greg. That was only the first of the common newbie blunders that I did over that weekend. I also took another newbie and jumped into a circle making it 8 people or something ridiculous like that on the first day. I'm not even going to start on how many times I self-served...
I did hit a blurry whirl midstring on film but to my dismay I realized that I taped over it later. My dad waited there the whole day and drove us back to the hotel. He ordered us pizza and had to have been bored out of his mind. Bob's mom was also hounding him on the phone all day about what Bob was doing. He thought that was really funny and that she was crazy. I laughed really hard when he told me and this was my first experience to the lengths that Bob's mom goes to to make sure he's okay.
The second day was at City Island. Bob competed intermediate and I filmed a lot and played with Matt Cross. I managed 8 ripwalks which was my record and a ton of ducking clippers which is probably my record to this day and I wasn't even counting! My dad hung around for a little bit and watched routines. I think he still doesn't like Peter Irish to this day. My dad is old-fashioned so when he watched Pete's routine to "You Sexy Mother Fucker" he instantly marked Pete as irresponsible. Imagine how much trouble I got into when I first cursed infront of him. That night in the back of the hotel, the WV crew had a session with Greg Nelson. This was also a big deal for me. I hit tapdown for the first time and Greg called me a freak. It is something that I'll always remember.
That's all I remember from the second day. The third day Bob competed intermediate and apparently did really really well, but John and I were off getting slurpies and missed most of the routine. As we were walking back, John said, "Is that Bob's music?" So we ran back and heard lots of clapping. Good job Bob, but the only thing that's immortalized on video is your first routine
I saw a lot of people that weekend that I'd only seen in video. It was very surreal. Eric Wulff, Kenny Shults, Pete, Sunil, Ken, Yax, Seb, Jon, Greg and I'd never heard of Scott Bevier before, but he was to have a big influence on my game later on.
That's all I can pick out of my brain right now. I think I'll edit this later because it's horrible writing. Here's a video that I made a long time ago. I never put it up because I didn't like it. Bad choice of music and the lighting is horrible. If you've seen Overground, the shots should look familiar. When I made it, I tried my best to make sure that I could see Yacine filming something else so I didn't put the same strings in.

We all played at the clinic for the first time in a couple of weeks. After the alcohol wore off, I started playing okay. I did some cool combos like void>marius. I found the secret to furious to make it fairly consistent. Bob and John says it looks "vaseky." It was an overall good session, better than the ones we've had recently.
I'm out. We're having a lan party and I need to install the game.

We're playing Medal of Honor : Allied Assault. It's too bad I've played Counter-Strike : Source because all first person shooters are quite horrible now in comparison, it's still quite fun when you have all your friends in a battle, and me cursing to high heavens.
As for last nights shred, I footed some new moves and hit one, I think ? Footed Atomic Same Side Reverse Swirl. Hit Paradox blender for the first time, midstring too. Also hit pixie double over down, but Bob said it was thin, and I agree, that was midstring also. I was pretty happy about hitting smoke > paradox drifter. It was a good night, but as I'm typing this my hips are frickin sore. Partly because I shred kinda hard and before I started, my legs weren't feeling 100 %, that and I got some horrible sleep after LAN'ing. Good weekend for sure.
