NASCAR Dads and Security Moms
Alright guys I know I've made three topics on here already in about three days, and I promise I'll slow down... But this revelation just needs to be posted.
I was riding home on the 71 bus today from SJFF (Which btw was fun as hell) eating those little Hot Tamale candies or whatever in the red box. On the bottom right corner it said, "The official candy of NASCAR."
And then it hit me... One of the biggest demographics of people talked about this past election were "NASCAR Dads"... FUCKING NASCAR DADS WERE ONE OF THE MOST TALKED ABOUT DEMOGRAPHICS IN THE COUNTRY. NASCAR FANS. NASCAR FANS DETERMINED WHETHER OUR POLITICS.
Ok... So then I start to think about what the second biggest talked about demographic was... And the first that came to mind were "Security Moms", which were formerly known as "Soccer Moms" in the last election...
So now get this, the two biggest groups of people deciding that Geroge Walker Bush was fit for another 4 years of office, were dads who get drunk and beligerent at NASCAR events, and moms who get beligerent for an undetermined reason at their 7 year olds soccer game and then turn around and think they have the insight to determine who will keep us secure as president.
Now here's the question... Is our country really capable of being able to pick a leader? In other words, is democracy really the best form of government for America?

Uh I think you should edit the topic title.
The last question is the most important I guess: "Is our [(the USA)] country really capable of being able to pick a leader? In other words, is democracy really the best form of government for America? "
I say democrazy is definately the fairliest way of voting.
The problem is that America has a rank of the world's superpower and do not give anything about this.
Maybe the " Minister of foreign affairs" should be voted by another organisation or a bigger group of people ( USA and other western countries i.e.).
I hope that the worldwide influence of USA will be reduced so that effects of president's decisions are not that intensive.
I didn't hear anything about the soccer mums or the NASCAR daddys but they are not the only group of people who can vote and are not involved in politics.
In Germany there are also lots of politicians who try to get "those" people with false promises.
In my opinion you cannot change this attitude of non interest in politics but maybe you can reduce the number of this people by improving your school/college system

But really, it's the electors in each state that divy up the electoral votes... This makes us a REPUBLIC, not a democracy.
The democratic part is really only for elected city, county and state officials. The president is elected as in a republic.
We could easily be called the Republic of United States. or maybe...
The Union of American Republics.
We may be more of a democracy than a republic, but there are certainly more democratic nations than our own.

Going by the apparant corruption of many parts of the system, as well as the things that apparantly effected the way people vote - I would say DEFINITLY NOT!!BainbridgeShred wrote:

People are only as smart as you tell them they are....
The US media is flooded with Nascar and the WWE and we expect american citizens to be educated and opinionated enough to care about what their voting for? Its stupid!
Even more bewildering is that we expect the american population to care about people in other countries, when they are reverting back into racist, fear-mongering ways of decades ago.
I think that the government of america has done a good job turning its regular global citizens into paranoid, drunken, morons. As humans we base our opinions on what we see, and americans base their opinions of fox news and the WWE......oh crap we're in trouble.

"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Think before you post!BainbridgeShred wrote: This is because terrorists tend to be Arabic....
What do you call White Christians that bomb abortion clinics, Black churches, and Oklahomas federal building...fucking TERRORISTS!
Terrorism is more that just 9/11 and Osama Bin Laden. Its a way for governments and non-governmental organizations to affect their relations to power.

Lets list some countries with strong terrorist groups.
Iraq - Not Arabs
Iran - Not Arabs
Israel - Not Arabs
Afghanistan - Arabs
Saudi Arabia - Arabs
Colombia - Not Arabs
Mexico - Not Arabs
Haiti - Not Arabs
Sri Lanka - Not Arabs
India - Not Arabs
Pakistan - Not Arabs
Northern Ireland - Not Arabs
Sudan - Arabs
Libya - Arabs (I think)
Indonesia - Not Arabs
Phillipines - Not Arabs
Malaysia - Not Arabs
Burma - Not Arabs
Myanma - Not Arabs
Russia - Not Arabs
Terrorists tend to be Arabic? That's simply not true. Infact the vast majority are not arabic. Maybe you meant Muslim? Muslim is a religion and many of those countries are Islamic countries - Arabic is a particular race.

jeremy, that list reminds of somethin i read today
"n 1986 the U.S. was condemned by the World Court for "unlawful use of force" (international terrorism) and then vetoed a Security Council resolution calling on all states (meaning the U.S.) to adhere to international law."
this "unlawful use of force" was Reagan's funding and training of Contras in an attempt to violently seize the Nicaraguan government from its 'communist' leaders.
