Hey Tim,

Ugh, Wyckoff, man thats far north. At least you're right on 287. The best footbag scene in all of New Jersey is in Somerville, NJ, 08876. Look us up, The Ministry of Silly Walks, in the club listings on http://www.footbag.org. We kick it every Tuesday and Thursday night, and we have a big jam on the last Sunday of each month. Sometimes people come in from New York City and Philadelphia and points between and beyond. You should drop us a line and come by to kick.

Some of your other options are thus: New York City has a good club. We play in Manhattan almost every weekend. You can get the low-down on when and where at our Yahoo group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NYFootbag. Something like that, anyway. I can't remember the exact url, just that the group name is NYFootbag.

If you didn't already know, there is going to be a bad-ass footbag competition and jam in Philadephia on January 2 (and probably January 1 also, though I haven't heard any really solid info on Jan. 1 yet). Its called The Chilly Philly, and its the best freestyle event in the area. You should come. It is going to be fun.

You can also count yourself lucky to be where you are since you are within driving distance of the East Coast Footbag Championships (which takes place near Washington D.C. each summer, lately in June) and the Funtastic Summer Classic in Harrisburg, PA (which is always on Labor Day Weekend). There are kickers all over this continent and others who are nowhere near as close to such awesome annual events. You should try to make it to one or both.

Tragically, people who are serious about footbag are often few and far between. There are not that many places where we are concentrated in one geographic location. Until there are many many times as many people into the game this is simply how it is. Thus the footbag action cannot always be right there for you. You must sometimes make the effort and go to where the action is. In many ways its worth the effort. With some dedication and luck you can bring some of that action home with you, start a scene, and get some players from surrounding areas interesting in coming to visit you. Till then, you are welcome to visit us in Somerville.

you might also consider taking the topic of this post and tossing it on a private message to ShredNJ. That's James Hermey. he's from jerz. he'll kick a legball with you. he'll even make you one, too. and he's good.

Hey Jonathan...

I live in Princeton, which is like 20 miles away from the club in Somerville. I don't have a car! But I wanna go!

Any ideas? Is there like a bus or something, or anybody that lives somewhat nearby Princeton that can pick me up on the way when they go?

Hey Prenz,

Well, I really don't know much about New Jersey public Transportation. It is possible that we are on the same NJTransit Train Line. Somerville is on the Raritan Valley Line, and Ministry headquarters is a very short walk from the train station. I think, actually, that Princeton is on the NorthEast Corridor Line, which won't bring you to Somerville. It will, though, make it easy to get into New York City. Once again, look into the New York Footbag Association and our yahoo group. NYFA hasn't been playing at its peak intensity lately, but I think after the New Year we're going to get our shit together again and at least have a very regular schedule.

As for me, I'd make the trip to Princeton. Its an easy enough drive for me, and I like to go out that way every now and then. Have you got an indoor place to play?
