Fractured or Sprained ?

Post by jon »

So I twisted my ankle last saturday and in the past few days it seems to have gotten worse. I am gonna go to the doctor tomorrow but thought I would take some pics first. Enjoy

My sprain had bruises worse than that, usually it's pretty bad for the first week, just make sure you take care of it. I'm gonna go for sprain, because that is what footbag is all about.

edit : goodluck with recovery. My advice, the more you take care of it, the faster recovery is, and don't do too much on it, even if you feel it has become better, because that could be the thing that will push you backwards instead of forwards.

edit # 2 : or maybe I fractured my ankle and never knew it ?

you can easily fracture and break bones without knowing it. mainly toes and fingers though. but in the case of an ankle, a hairline fracture would be enough to cause that much swelling. and the bruising usually happens when its a tear, not a sprain. so now that i rethink of it, only an xray, or an experienced doctor can tell.

Yeah, I was bruised like that too and thought it was a sprain, but what do I know? Good thing you're going to a doctor. I never went to one. Post your results because I'd like to know what that is too.

I'd say you're out for atleast a month-6 weeks. I started playing earlier and reinjured mine twice in April-May. So I was out of commission for over 2 months really because I started playing too early.

Ooooo, a med question. Well, I took a year of sports medicine in High School and saw many sprains, they can bruise like that or worse and swell like a bitch.

Rest it of course, Ice it as well. Since you are seeing a doctor tomorrow there is no need for any other advice other than those 2. DONT HEAT IT THOUGH! It might seem odd but a lot of people will try to put heat on it and you dont want to do that at this point.

Anywho, hope you hear good knews (sprain over fracture).

Hope its not an arch though..... or a heel (calcanius or some crap like that). Those can lead to prizoblems.

I agree with full nelson on the out time.

I sprained my ankle in may, and I had swellin like this. And I think that you had sprain your joint-bag (I don't now how to call it in english), because you have bruise.

mine was pretty much exactly like this. from the bruising to the swelling it was pretty much identical. it didn't end up being a fracture, but it did leave calcium deposits from the stretching of all the ligaments. I'd go to a doctor.

got to the hospital at 1:30 pm
saw a doctor at 8:15 pm
x-ray at 8:30 pm
doctor again at 8:45
was gone by 9:15 pm

so he said that it was not broken but the bruising on both sides of my feet are signs that I tore ligaments
so they gave me crutches and said they would send the bill in the mail ($30) and they gave me a new tenser bandage and I have been instructed to use the crutches for 3 days. I am not supposed to do play sports that involve piveting for 6 weeks.

PS. it sucks trying to explain footbag to a doctor

so this really sucks but could be worse. In a week or so I head back to victoria bc and was so excited to play with those guys again. I am also gonna on a little boat ride over the holidays and was so excited to school super hard on the boat. But now that is messed up and I am gimped for 6 weeks :( It will be hard to resist playing, I hope I can manage. At least when I screwed up my foot, I did it both sides first try.

that looks sprained. It's like what I did to my ankle when I had my cast on (remember that Chris?). Stay off of it as much as you can... that is a sprain that could have torn ligaments...

It's going to be a while, but make sure you fully recover from it... I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to reinjure something like that.
