Lavers are the footbag standard for footwear, there ARE a couple other options though (New Balance CT-350's and Adidas Climacool's I'm pretty sure). But having one of the few accepted models is a HUGE help. Take into consideration weight (the lighter the better), toebox, insides, size (bulky = bad). So obviously Lavers would be better than skate shoes, for example.
About bags: if you're a beginner and still learning the basics, a Mr. Sandbag (www.freedomfootbags.com) is for you. Once you start learning the more difficult three adds, and the four adds, then I'd say it's a good time to look at 32's. Of course this is just my opinion though.
Hope that helps,
Chrissy
