So I work at a self serve used car lot sitting in a trailer with an open side as the attendant. Today I got completely bitched out by an old lady (who must have been about 75 y/o) because there were no more parking spots for her recreational vehicle that takes 4 parking spaces. She accused me of not doing my job because there was nowhere for her to park, even though she should have been there over an hour earlier. Then out of no where, this random guy told me that since I have a sign up that says "No Cash In Trailer," I should have a sign up that says "No Trash In Trailer." He was like "Get it?!? Get it?!?!? Trailer trash!!!" It was great... people in used car lots are nuts.
and the solo session was fun today too. flip drifter. in a string.

Today I went to the Stanford Tuesday session. I had a great session, man, I hit some whirls in strings, which is huge for me, and I hit strong drifter a few times in small strings, also still huge for me, but then I immediately dropped it every time without sealing it... so frustrating. 4-square was fun too. Later, I had a solo session at home which lasted about 40 minutes. I tried dlo's but couldn't get anywhere near hitting them.
I'm so stoked to go to New Year's Jam in Chicago and the Chilly Philly...
I really dislike it that people talk about “If you can’t hit it clean you shouldn’t even try it in front of other people.” I figure that if I’ve tried a trick a bunch and can’t get it by myself, I should do it in front of other people to ask for help. That’s why we’re all part of a community.

There is a meteor shower today from 10p-4am (don't know which time zone) that I just got a phone call about. So I decided to go outside and check it out before going to sleep. The sky was beautiful, as it always is here. It looked so fake because it was so perfect. Then I saw a meteor. Then another, and another. Five in all. It was great.

I didn't want to be all rusty at the events over the next few weeks, so yesterday I went to San Francisco to kick with Torch, Sunil, and Tu. I felt like I was doing really well. I did pixie>legovers both sides (1st time doing flip I think), linking infinities, and doing some other stuff I had been wanting to work on. They gave me some advice which was really appreciated. We were almost done shredding when it happened... bad landing, my foot rolled and I landed on my ankle with all of my body weight and fell down. I looked at it right away and it was already swollen a lot. The bump that formed was larger than the bone on the side of my foot. About an hour later it was even bigger, and that was after it had been iced and keeping it elevated. The last time I looked at it last night, the bump had engulfed the whole outer side of my ankle. DAMN IT. At first it was numb, but now I can feel pain. I don't know if that's good or bad. It wasn't really stiff yesterday but today I can put weight on it but the ankle doesn't have ANY bend in it because it's so full of fluid. That's not something they can drain, right? WAY TO GO, EMILY. Just before 4+ sessions/jams coming up in the next three weeks. But I'm still planning on going to the events because my travel plans were made around them and they'll be fun either way because I'm sure I'll get to meet lots of fun people.
Man, I've rolled onto my ankle before but it has never been this bad. At least I’ll get to watch a lot of good footbag…

Thanks Tom. Apparently only footbaggers understand that my frustration with this situation (not being able to play at these events) is much greater than the physical pain I'm feeling... especially right now because I'm on Vicodin or something which my roommate gave me 
Even if I wanted to, I couldn't go to a doctor until mid January because of insurance stuff. But someone said they think it's a sprain, so I'm just going to try to stay off of it.

Take it easy on that ankle Emily, sorry to hear the bad news. Atleast you are still sticking it out and going to the events, I'm sure you will enjoy the trips to both of the big footbag events, it's just too bad we won't be able to kick. The way it sounds, you won't be kicking for a while, sorry to point out the harsh reality, but it happens to many footbaggers. Every one of the WV kickers have had a bad rolled ankle, but we're all kicking strong now. Hopefully you'll be back up sooner than later. Goodluck with recovery, and I'll see you in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS !!!

Well, long long last few weeks for me. Let's start with 12/21/04 when I was supposed to get on my plane at 4pm, but the flight was oversold so I gave up my seat so I could get a free round trip ticket. Then for the 11pm flight I did the same thing and got to stay in a hotel for free. It was funny because another guy did the same thing on both flights as I did and after spending 8+ hours talking with this stranger, we figured out that he knows Tu and Sunil. Pretty crazy.
I spent a few days with my family and then went to the X-mas Jam in Chicago (12/27-12/29), which is always a good time with great people. It was great to see my good friends in CIC (Chicago Inner Circle for all you suckas who don’t know) again. Everyone there was great, but it wasn’t AT ALL the same without Zeke, Dan, Juan, or Bijan. My ankle was still a bit bruised, swollen and all around weak and sore. I tried to shred lightly for a little each day (probably 10 minutes or so) without hurting myself, but mostly I played 4-Square.
12/30 Mike Hansen and Tim Werner were my road trip buddies while we drove from Chicago to David Clavens house (about a 10 hour drive, I think). It was cool meeting and talking to him for the first time. I learned what the move “schlumpee” is. We spent the night at David’s house and watched footbag movies after David, Mike, and Tim had a session in the basement.
12/31 Ah Philly. That night was the best, and it wasn’t even technically Chilly Philly. Oodles of shredders just started gathering in the subway. Josh had his stereo going and people were shredding their legs off. It was so weird that we didn’t get kicked out. People walked by us and didn’t even seem to care or really notice the footbag. I talked with Jonathan Schneider and I think Chris Kovacs for the first time. It’s great; I can say almost everyone I met was super nice. I had a better experience with people at ChiPhi than I did at Worlds because it was a little smaller and it was easier to get to know more people. Plus there were fewer jerks (or, less that I came into contact with anyway.) What else… we watched the fireworks at midnight. The three of us hadn’t found a place to stay, so at the last moment a few people offered to let us crash on their floors so we slept in the same room with Matt Cross, Mosher, and Aric McIntosh.

I couldn’t shred at all, but playing 4-Square with Felix, Ales, Kenny Shults, Steve Goldberg, Peter Irish, Jorden Moir and many others was really fun. (If you didn't go, you should have) The competition was great to watch. It was so nice to see so many good players compete and still feel like it was a casual environment. I heard a lot of people saying that they felt comfortable because it was more relaxed than Worlds when it came to the competition. People slowly started saying their goodbyes and seeping out the door. Tim, Ryan Seath, Tom Mosher, and Jorden Moir and I all decided to share a hotel room. Before we went to the hotel, we went downtown and proceeded to have some adventures being really stupid. And I mean STUPID. But we had fun. At the hotel that night the footbag games were really entertaining to witness
1/3 Tim and I got picked up by Mike and we drove straight back to Chicago to drop me off at the airport to fly back to California. My flight was at 9:15pm, but it was oversold. This time I was one of the people who needed a seat. So they asked everyone if anyone would give up their seat for a free ticket and someone did. I then offered to give up my seat for a free round trip ticket because they were still oversold. I got a food voucher and because I happened to talk to the right manager I got a free hotel room too because my flight wasn’t until 8am the next day. So in one trip home I got a total of three free round trip tickets. I told my parents that one of the tickets is for a trip home, and one is for footbag. I think I’ll try selling the other one on e-bay. ATA is a horrible airline if you want to get anywhere ever. But it’s great when it’s a busy time of the year and you want free tickets.
1/4 I got to San Francisco at 11:30am and went home to Santa Cruz to shower and drove to Stanford to the jam. The normal crew was there plus Ales, Felix, Jeremy Mirken and a guy from France whose name I didn’t catch. I kicked some. By this point, the swelling in my ankle was almost all the way gone and the bruising wasn’t visible. I know I’m not full strength and I still have to baby it for a long time. But I hit whirl for the first time since I’ve been injured. Man, being in a circle with Ales, Felix, and Jeremy was so great. I was the most comfortable and relaxed circle ever. They’re supportive, they make good suggestions and they let you try as many times as you need when they tell you how to fix something. I think Ales is the most observant shredder I’ve met; very analytical. We went to a beat box showcase sort of thing and Felix freestyle footbagged while the artist Each performed.
1/5 I told him I was going to, and I am posting on modified that I beat Felix Zenger at mini golf! ...but he’s still better at everything else.
1/6 I went to San Luis Obispo for a session with Dat Phan, Jeremy, and Amelia. I was sick but I hit my first drifter since the injury. Jeremy told me to try toe whirl and I hit it on my 2nd try. It wasn't hard at all. I think I could do paradox whirl if I tried. I hit flip illusion for the first time, which I have been struggling with for months and I did it BSOS, so that felt good.

I am SOOOO glad we got to become real friends and hang out and have fun. You're totally awesome and fun to be around.
Hanging out with you and Tim and co. that extra night in New Jersey was such a treat, nothing beats dragging out the fun a little longer.

So today I went to Ales' last session before he goes home. It was good, he gave me some advice on some stuff. I really need to school myself on basic stuff again to get back to pre-injury ability. I feel so lazy, I don't want to move at all and I keep making excuses not to. I started working again this week and school starts the first week of Feb. I feel like my time's slipping away from me.
Did you know that Ales knows how to ride a unicycle? I saw him doing it today. I love how footbag people all seem to have neat talents besides footbag. Ales, Felix with beatboxing, everyone (it seems like) and their juggling... I can spin poi, I guess that counts. But I haven't for a little while now.
Oh yeah! That's the other thing that happened today: ALL of the videos that were on my computer got deleted; footbag and other stuff. I was so upset! I don't have the time/patience to download every single thing again, and I doubt that I could find everything if I wanted to. Bah.
