Fads
Fads
Alrght, so right now Swirls are "in" in the footbag community. I remember a short phasing popularity boost, before that. I think 2000-2002 were symp. whirl stuff (ps whirl, whirlwind, etc.).
Whats next? What came before those?

honestly I dont really get how some of these moves are in and how they were not before ... I have only been playing a short time compared to some but honestly when was a time that any 5 adds were not popular? 2 years ago was ps whirl more popular than it is now or vortex was any less cool?
I understand saying swirls are in, they are popular because they are fun, look stylish, and now a lot of top players (cough*vasek) are doing them. Swirls to me make sense as a possible fad because they are a concept not just a move. Its concepts more than moves that become fads imho eg. barraging, nuke ect. hope that made sense

phoenix, pdx torque and ps whirl are definitly not "in" now - too many people hit them and they are easy compared with other stuff. Definitly a few years ago PS whirl and stuff like that were way more "in" then they are now - moves like whirlwind was the move everybody wanted to hit.
[edit] Just because lots of people hit a move - it doesn't make it "in" - if it's easy lots of people will hit it too - like ripwalk or butterfly - by easy I'm mean relative - pdx torque obviously isn't easy for a new player - but is one of the first fives many people hit [/edit]
Swirls are definitly "in" now - but it has to be hard swirling moves - just hitting a swirl is like hitting any other genuine 3 add - but stuff like phasing gyro or symp whirling swirling etc.
The new "in" seems to be walk overs - but out of really hard moves. I know Felix has been doing this for a while and I'm sure other people - but Vasek has definitly made it something people want to do.
I think there is also a move away from shuffling - I think shuffling has been pretty popular for a while and now people are getting bored of it. I think also hitting hard low add moves is definitly "in" at the moment - I think a move like clip set flux gets more respect than say whirlwind or maybe even montage.

I think Sam Colclough totally helped introduce the style of non-guiltless moves like walkovers, bubba, rakes, swirls, etc. Sam was soooo styley!!!! I agree that swirls and walkovers are in. I agree, also, that Phoenix is definately not in. I can't stand that move now :p Pixie ducking clipper is so much cooler :p I think PS whirls might come back. I totally can't wait to bust them when I'm all healed up -- cool move! Furious is definately in -- everyone is doing it -- it's HOT!
I'd also say that Jorden Moir is also very in. But watch out for JOHNNY SUPERMAN!!! (Seriously......)

I can't see any 2bag-juggling anymore, it's so fucking boring and everybody did it; I think it should not get style-bonus. if you juggle with both feet it should get.

Whats wrong with walkovers???james wrote:Walkovers are lame.
PS whirl>PS whirl still rocks, and PS whirl>step set also rocks. PS reverse whirl is even cooler.
Pdx torque always gets props in my books.
Linking is what's important.
Pheonix has always been, and always will be lame.
Sure, just a walkover may be sort of lame, but its all how you do it. If you take like 10 seconds to walkover, then yes, it looks pretty lame, but in vasek's case, when I see him do walkovers, he takes maybe a second to do a reverse walkover after a ripstein or mobius
I guess its all a matter of personal preference for fads.

it's like jugglers doing all that moving-balls-around, it looks lame, but if you know how hard it is to do it and if it's clean too, it's just plain amazing
I like vaseks walkovers, but I don't like these mini-toe-stalls though I do them myself often
