CSS6 LOGO DESIGN CONTEST

Post by Splint »

This is in the kicking circle and replies should go there, but I thought this is a good place to put it also.
Chris Holden wrote:Sixth Annual Colorado Shred Symposium (CSS6) Logo Design Contest

Rules/Guidelines

Topic: Logo for CSS6 (t-shirt, fliers, etc.)

Guidelines: Create a logo of your own design. The logo must include
the event title, and represent footbag in some manner. It's also
important to consider shred, a footbag player, Colorado, and date of
event in your design, though not required.

Technical Considerations: A strong logo must read well at a distance,
be easily recognizable, and can be reduced to ONE COLOR and retain the
quality of it's original design. This is very important to your
design. Colorful designs should not be discouraged, but if it does not
read reduced to solid black and white, it will score poorly with the
judges.

Submissions

Submissions can be posted in this thread, work-in-progress posts are encouraged.

Final submissions should be large images, around 1024x1024 at the
smallest, or a more dynamic format, such as illustrator. Email final
submissions to me at [email protected] and be sure to include a .JPG
format for judging.

Do not create a smaller image and scale it up, submissions that are
too small will be disregarded. This is due to how it will appear on
the shirt.

Deadline

January 31st, 2005.
One month before the event, giving us time to judge and print up everything.

Judging
A panel of local players and professional artists will judge final submissions.

Judges are asked to give focused critiques in the areas of:

1. Presentation of the logo and uniqueness of the design and the
overall artistic result.
2. Logo's ability to capture the essence of CSS.
3. Readability and overall wear-factor as a t-shirt.

Prize

Winning logo will be used as official css6 logo.
Winner receives a CSS6 tshirt with their logo, and be recognized at the event.
Other prizes may be added as event draws near.

Have fun!

That's awesome. I like how simple it is. By simple, I mean that anyone can tell what the player is doing. Alot of times it's hard for people to understand a picture of someone in mid-Montage.

The Denver skyline in the Letters is straight up fuckin' cool.

Here's the big critique. It is good for flyers and off-shirt promos, but once you try to put that as a single color (say black) on a shirt (white, off-white, grey) the "CSS6" and the kicker aren't going to transfer properly in a single color silk screen. It would only work for Iron-ons, which suck. Of course it can always be altered...if it wins

Yo Seath!
I totally dig it!! The player is AWESOME -- I love it. I think the only thing I would change is to remove the border around everything and maybe the border around the text. Is the player Chad? It totally looks like Chad.

Thanks guys! I'm going to tweak around with it and see if i can improve it.

Chan, it's not Chad, but I'm still taking guesses.

Hey Seath, I like this a lot, simple and effective.
Couple quick crits: the line border around this piece hurts it. It gives a sense of restriction and cuts off the C and the player's foot. The skyline in the letters is a nice idea, but what you've done will be lost in the printing process. Youd could reduce this to linework with a border to the text for a better affect. Also, having the mountains in the background is a solid method of conveying 'Denver'. Check out the Denver Nuggets logo (the one with the skyline) for a simliar reference.
Anyway, great start, love it!

Psyc: I really like the 2nd, blue one. Reminds me a lot of the CSS5 logo. My only crit is the drop shadow on the player kinda blurs and fuzzes him out. Hard edges are almost always better.

Here's a couple logos I had laying around I thought I should post for fun and inspiration since they are a bit different.

This brightly colored logo is actually one I made a for css5, I just cropped out the "5". The logo for Munch's Oddessy is the inspiration for this.
Image

Very basic, t-shirt design like all the old companies have. It's very sloppy.

Keep them coming everyone! One month left!

Wow, I really like the first one. It does look like the logo for Munch's Odyssey.

I was looking at your portfolio/site and I wanted to ask you a question.

Which program would you recommend for a beginner with CGI? Maya or 3DS Max?
