Some cases don't seem important, but judge Moore being booted of the bench for displaying the Ten Commandments is one example.
The Pentagon is being threatened to stop sponsoring Boy Scout troops at any of their bases is another.
This one is especially absurd, considering the Boy Scouts is a good pool of future soldiers.
The ALCU seems to like going around to sue, or threaten to sue any public official or local government to destroy any reference to Christ or Christianity.
I hear almost everyday on radio, or internet of a different town or school that is eliminating all Christianity from all public displays or events, while allowing Jewish or Islamic or Transexual displays.
These may be anecdotal (limited, scattered events) , but it's a start.
The only defense of religion I hear from Bush, is how peaceful Islam is.
-------------------------------------
By sliding left economically, I mean Bush , and his party, raising the debt ceiling, almost a day after the election.
His "Guest Worker" program is another slide, although he always seems to push this unpopular stinker.
Time after time, vast majorities of Americans of EVERY race, tell Bush (in polls) to shove his Amnesty program up his ass.
p.s.
Don't worry about a future Christian theocracy, it wont materialize.
Beat them down and fuck them, figuratively I mean. They wont fight back.
What can they do? What have they done? Where is their lawyer? Where is their spokesman?
I'm on a Christian rant now, so I'll stop and go to bed.

Yeah you're right. That Christian theorcracy will never happen. Just because the President of some backwater country that no one cares about is a born again Christian with policies like not giving funding to family planning agencies that promote the use of contraception and won an election by appealing towards "traditional values" means nothing.
I don't think it's at all appropriate for a Judge to display any kind of religious paraphernalia. A Judge is there as a representative of society and to rule on issues of law. Displaying something like the Ten Commandments, whether it is the actual case or not, gives the impression that the Judge values those Commandments above US Law, which is entirely inappropriate. Courts also have a clear responsibility to be as open as they can be, any person who is an athiest or a muslim or any other religion not following the ten commandments is going to feel uncomfortable having their case judged by someone who clearly follows those Commandments. Judges can have religious beliefs but they should not take that religion into the Court.
Oh, and finally. Who is threatening the Pentagon? The Scouts are a heinously evil organisation, completely ignoring any religious background, they have horrible views on what constitutes Youth Empowerment.
anyway my girlfriend is here so I have to go.

Not funding abortion providers is tanamount to Christian theocracy?
I have no problem with de-funding that.
Not funding contraceptive programs may be unwise. Your criticism of that has merit.
I wonder what kind of contraceptive funding is allocated by governments controlled by the other popular religions?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The commandments weren't actually in the courtroom, but in the building.
I think the government should not be allowed to spend any extra money on removing or concealing existing religious symbols on their land.
This limitation might be worthless anyhow, because some billionaire atheist would fund the burning of the cross anyway.

As I stated before, the Scouts provide the Pentagon with future troops, and since the Pentagon is also a heinously evil organisation, hurting other h.e.o.'s damages them, which Is a good thing, from some points of view.
From now on:
HEO = heinously evil organization
I like the sound of that, so Ill use it later.

It's interesting that the ten commandments have been brought up. Doesn't it seem so ironic that someone who is supposed to believe "Thou Shal Not Kill' would ever advocate war? War itself is state funded murder. It is terrorism with a bigger budget. It is killing! If a Christian were to actually review the teachings of Jesus, they would find absolutely no justification for war, as it is against everything he believed and taught.
If the problem is violence, then violence cannot be the answer. There is something terribly flawed with the current thinking in this country. We cannot solve a problem using the same kind of thinking that created it.
"Our children deserve a world without end, not a war without end. Our children deserve a world free of the terror of hunger, free of the terror of poor health care, free of the terror of homelessness, free of the terror of ignorance, free of the terror of hopelessness, free of the terror of policies which are committed to a world view which is not appropriate for the survival of a free people, not appropriate for the survival of democratic values, not appropriate for the survival of our nation, and not appropriate for the survival of the world." -DK
If we wish eliminate terror from this planet, then we must not use weapons to do it! The elimination of terror can only come using the power of love, of community, of participation, to transform our politics, and yes, to transform ourselves. Those who support a regime that uses terror to achieve it's economic and political objectives, are just as guilty as the "terrorists" they oppose.
When this administration played on the fear that spread across this country like the plague following 9-11, telling our citizens they were in danger and if they did not support a militaristic approach, that they were not patriots, then I say to them "fuck you!" Really, I know that defending this country is about defending the constitution and it's democratic ideals. The PATRIOT ACT was an attack on our country and it's ideals, so why are we not defending our country from the attacks from within? Where are the true patriots?
I know that dissent is healthy in a democracy. Not only is dissent healthy, it is vital. The tactics used by the current administration is identical to those used by Hitler. Hitler began with declaring pre-emptive war on Poland, where did he go from there? He justified the killing of millions, all the while waving his flag, and denouncing the pacifists for being unpatriotic.
I can see all too clearly that war is never the answer, why are others so slow to see it? Are people blind, or just brainwashed by the propaganda tools used by the regime in power? Are we being protected from the truth? Should we eliminate all reporters who are not "in bed" with our military as someone in this discussion suggested? Hell no! As Jesus said, "The truth shall set you free." http://www.fallujahinpictures.com/ Let it be known, war is hell, for both sides. I will never wave my flag in support of war!!
My dad has only cried in front of me once in his life. He confessed, "I've killed people." I thought, "My dad is a murderer? How can this be?" He said, "The government of this country trained me to kill." He was a marine in the Vietnam war when he was 19. Those soldiers in Iraq will suffer a lifetime of mental trauma, they are victims, as my father was a victim.
As a country we would be much better of with a leader who understands the underlying principles of humanity. A leader that understands we are all one. One who knows that to create separation, with an "us vs. them" mentality, is like the spliting of an atom. We cannot divide ourselves and survive.
We all are thinking conscious centers of life, each with unlimited potential. I believe the footbag community can set an example for the rest of the world. We can recognize ourself in our fellow man, regardless of race, religion or nationality; all social constructions that keep us separate in mind, rather than united in heart. When the footbag community comes together we celebrate life, and the unlimited potential in each of us. We do not set out to destroy each other because of our underlying differences. We know that we are all one community. That is where our power lies.
The United States should declare our intent for peace. Let us work to make NONVIOLENCE an organizing principle in our own society. Let's not force our ways on others when we have yet to discover right relationship within ourselves and within our own society. We need to address the suffering in our own communities; the poverty, the hunger, the violence and discrimination. We must first heal ourselves.
So, I've gone on long enough.
May Peace Prevail On Earth!

I'm fine with the 10 commandments being up there on the courtroom. But only under the circumstance that "Blessed are the merciful" be up there as well. In fact let's just go all out, "Blessed are the peacemakers" right up there in a Pentagon war room engraved in stone so every idiot who walked by could see.The commandments weren't actually in the courtroom, but in the building.
I love how the religious right tries so hard to nit pick our Bible, and yet only takes things out of the Old Testament, totally forgetting some of things thinks Christ said as listed above.
The religious right are the modern day Pharisees that our saviour preached so strongly against! I'm sick of the idiots who misinterpret our Bible to make it seem as if homosexuality was a sin, their wasn't even a word for homosexual in Greek, Arabic or Hebrew, which all of the current cannonized books come from!
Gah! How can you say if you aren't a Christian you are going to hell when Jesus himself said-
Ugh... I'm through here. It isn't like there is even anyone who would consider themselves of the religious right who is reading this right now anyways.

Where is the love and community in this line that you preached about only about 5 lines above? You have to be the change you want to se e in the world, telling Bush and co. to go fuck themselves isn't going to change a thing. We as liberals and pacifcists alike need to be much more mature, or we will never reach any type of broad audience with our obviously simple yet great ideal. When this administration played on the fear that spread across this country like the plague following 9-11, telling our citizens they were in danger and if they did not support a militaristic approach, that they were not patriots, then I say to them "fuck you!"

Hey Bainbridge,
I'm not saying that yelling obscenities at the administration is the answer, I did not propose it as an answer, it is only an internal response (that I happened to share with you who are engaging me in this discussion). It's a response to the presumptions of the administration that I refuse to accept. I'm saying I will not allow them to play the "fear card" with me, I will not accept their claim that if I'm not with them, I am with the terrorists, and to that illogical conclusion I again say, fuck you, not as an attack, but as a rejection of their presumptions. I hope you see where I'm coming from and do not confuse these harsh words (and they are only words as violent as they may sound) with my intentions. Sorry if you thought my approach was immature. I thought that it would be understood given the context of my post. Now, to expand on this idea, just because I have said love is the answer does not mean I think telling the current administration that 'I love them' will do any good at this point either.
I know what I am. You are right, and I am the change I want to see in the world. I am an active member of the Idaho Progressive Caucus and a member of the spokes council for the Idaho Peace Coalition. I went door-to-door for several weeks prior to the election and engaged in dialogue with many people in my community, democrats and republicans alike. Last week I participated in an 'Inter-faith Dialogue' with many members of my community. I read a piece I composed on 'peace' and was invited to read it again, to a large audience, during the International Hour of Peace. I supported Dennis Kucinich, the Peace Candidate (winner of the 2003 Gandhi Peace Award), as a delegate at the Colorado State Convention and worked very hard to get the resolution passed for a Department of Peace. I introduced and passed a resolution for a ban on Depleted Uranium in our munitions. I emailed my congressman requesting that he support the Dept. of Peace bill that has been introduced to Congress and again to ask him not to support the bill that requested more funding for the development of new nuclear weapons. It's funny that you say "Be the Change" because I also supported Mike Miles in his run for US Senate and his campaign slogan was exactly that. I wore a shirt that said "Be the Change" on the back
Now, this approach may be viewed as slightly more mature than my obscenities:)
I think that your suggestion to engrave, "Blessed are the Peacemakers" in the Pentagon war room is great! Not the answer to the current dilemma, but a nice suggestion!
Peace,
Sunny

I realized it was probably a mistake in replying to your comment, because deep down I knew what you meant, I ended up posting it anyways though as a more direct post to those who are anti-Bush to the point of threatening violence wether jokingly or not. I realize you are probably much more mature than this, but used you as my sacrificial lamb anyways
Also... The "Blessed are the peacemakers" in a Pentagon war room is sadly not my idea... You can rack that one up to Kurt Vonnegut...

Thanks for the compliment man, I might make a thread on Arts and Leisure about what books people like... I'll search to make sure it hasn't been done already though.
Yea, Vonnegut is clearly a genius. He's kind of sunken into obsceurity sadly
Either way he's made his claim in life, we probably wont have him for to much longer.
The piece me and spinko are ebullient about can be found here, and was written by one of the greatest satirical writers, up their with Golding and Orwell easily: http://www.epitaph.com/news/article.php?id=1343

A Christian homophobe like Bush ,surely wouldn't invite a prominent, gay musician to the White House would he?

Another strike against the theocracy.....
Maybe I should reframe my criticism of Bush's sliding , it's more like he's sliding "global" or globalist.

Perhaps, but who is dissenting?
American critics of the war aren't dissenting, they are exercising their free speech rights.

Since I just checked back in with this conversation, I must first say:
In the article mentioned, Vonnegut states very clearly his perspective:
"Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey. And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on."
Does this ring true to anyone? Why are we in the Middle East again? Oh yeah, Operation Iraqi Liberation right? (OIL for short)
Dissent is currently being practiced by magazines like Mother Jones (they have perfected the art of dissent), journalists like Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! www.democracynow.org , websites like www.commondreams.org , organizations like the Idaho Peace Coalition, legislative groups like the Friends Committee on National Legislation www.fcnl.org ... and on and on and on.
Dissent is:
1. strong difference of opinion on a particular subject; disagreement, especially about an official suggestion or plan or a popular belief
2. to disagree with other people about something
So, dissent is everywhere
people will always disagree!
The voices of dissent against the current plan in the Middle East, and the popular belief that violence is acceptable, are being silenced by the majority of media outlets (popular brainwashing devices controlled by those in power). Exercising your freedom of speech is basically dissent. My current post is one of dissent. Dissent is not illegal. Civil disobedience yes, dissent no.
Each truley responsible citizen must seek out reliable sources of independent media (rather than corporate controlled). To discover the truth, we must hear from those who are not afraid to go to where the silence is and bring us another perspective. With both views, the picture becomes more clear.
Bainbridge, if it is for the greater good, I consent to being sacrificed
Peace to all, I will have to read about the White House guest another night, I need to get some sleep.
