Yep, I'm stupid
So I'm at school today when me and a bunch of friends decide to go mess around on a massive (half the size of a hockey rink) patch of ice behind the designated smoking area in our school. We're sliding around on our feet, backs and lunchtrays when we think of the great idea of two people getting a running start off dry land on opposite sides and sliding into eachother. The objective was to hip check the person and try to remain standing. I thought it was a stupid idea (because I knew someone would end up getting hurt) but I participated for a round anyways. Me and my friend get a running start, hit the ice, slide and clash into eachother. *CRACK* my right knee and his left knee collide... hard. So at first I just think my shoulder is messed because it felt limp, then I start to walk :S. I can't walk, at all almost. The pain in my knee is exrtaordinary! It hurt everytime I bend or lift my right leg. So, I slowly make my way back into the school and go to my next class. Takes me forever to walk wherever I want to go now. And obviously footbag is out of the question untill it's better. I have no idea how long it's going to be because it is really a task to walk anywhere. If it's the same tomorrow I'm going to go to a doctor and get crutches or something. I'm very pissed off about this for the sole reason of not being able to play footbag. I was planning on shredding as soon as I got home from school today, so I guess that's out of the question.

:S I feel bad for that soccer player! Well I've been watching footbag video's for the past couple of hours in between a bit of T.V. and snacking, I love watching footage! Especially raw shred videos. Any suggestions for what would help my knee? Heat, cold, stretching, etc?
Naw, no peer pressure was involved. I was just having a blast sliding on the lunch trays, skimboard style (since I haven't skimboarded at all during the recent summer. Ever since I broke two toes I never really got back into it), so I agreed to a challenge. Wasn't really thinking.
I can't wait to shred again, it's actually driving me crazy.

you think thats stupid....i triped over this kids foot during basketball and messed up my ankle. the next day i was playing foot bag and slipped on my own sweat and sprained my other ankle. Then i have a crazy idea of playing footbag the same day only on my less injured ankle(left).

If you think that was stupid...
Two weeks ago I drank almost two gallons of wine and in a spur of the moment attempt at petty vandalism place kicked what my blurry vision told me was a lawn ornament. It was a granite bird bath. Now I'm getting back into my shred routine with a lot of pain and a healthy respect for karma.

You were looking good tonight though. Your pixie sets looekd really tight. Also, if you read this before tomorrow, I don't think I'll be able to make a session tomorrow. Just couldn't set up a ride
Hahaha! Just noticed your signature in respect to your comment above.

okay, your symptoms sond alot like what i had when i fractured my knee cap, that is, if it's swollen, tight, and turning purple not only on the point of impact but the surrounding areas as well. now don't freak out, it might not be, but it's better to find out now. i walked mine off, it healed improperly, and i have had pretty bad knees ever since. if it doesn't start feeling better, go see a doc and get his opinion.

Thanks for the advice Andrew. There's no change of color at all, and I can't tell if it's swollen or not. It seems to be a tiny bit bigger, but not very noticable. Also, when I first get up to walk there isn't very much pain for the first ten steps or so, then I can start to feel it. It DOES feel a little bit better from yesterday though. Last night I put a hot water bottle on it. I'll post a picture with my crappy webcam sometime within the hour.
I think that you should ice it... And use some ointment. I don't know what ointments do you have in Canada but it should be some anti-inflammatory and analgetic ointment. If you don't have any ointment you should use some painkiller tablets, aspirine is the best for such pain...

Try a Cho Pat Knee strap (http://www.kneesupport.com/cho-pat/chopat1.htm). When I messed up my knee I used a nike thing sorta like it but this is the same thing. It gives your knee extra support. Sorta like a bra for your knee. If you cant find one just wrap your knee with medical tape or soem type of wrap, under your knee. Like where the knee cap is go under it about an inch and wrap it tight. Only walk when you have too as well. Ice is also better than something hot I think. So ice is like in the morning and then at night and keep it proped up. Good luck man and get better.

RICE!!!
When injured you follow these four steps
Rest - try using the injured limb as little as possible, baby it for a while
Ice - don't use heat at first, ice it at first, reduces swelling.. etc.
Compression - wrap it up, use an ACE bandage or a towel. don't wrap extremely tight, just keep a nice amount of pressure on it.
Elevate (i think) - i wont explain this one can't remember it. but pretty sure this also helps keep swelling down

Thanks alot for the help guys. I'm going for x-rays tonight to determine exactly what is wrong with it. I'll pick up a knee brace if needed.
A little more info. If my injured leg is fully extended, I can stand on the one leg without a problem or pain. But if I bend that one injured leg I just collapse. There seems to be no support for when it is bent.

I went to the hospital and asked for an x-ray tonight, only to wait for two hours just to be told to come back tomorrow. The x-ray place closes sometime in the afternoon. I have NO idea why they couldnt tell me this when I asked for the x-ray initially, instead they felt it was a good idea to make me wait two hours before telling me. Big waste of time. So I'm going to go tomorrow during school to get the x-ray.

Went back today during first half of school. Got the x-rays done, and waited 45 minutes to see the doctor. He didn't even look at the x-rays!!! He said that he thinks it's a tendon (spelling?) problem and he may take a look at the x-rays later if he has time. What kind of bullcrap is this? I didn't learn anything new from last night, so I basically just wasted my time again.
If he's right, he said that in a couple of weeks it should be fine. Just ice it, wrap it, and try to stay off of my feet. When I got back to school (I had to walk back to school because the school wouldn't allow my friend out of class to pick me up at the hospital, which was pre-planned. Worst walk of my life), the school gave me a pair of crutches to use if I wanted. I figured it would mean less strain on my knee, so I accepted them. But neither I or them noticed that one of the rubber grips on the bottom of one of the crutches was missing. So one side slid out from underneath me, putting alot of strain on my knee trying to keep myself from falling.
Not the greatest day. Anyways, I'm wondering... shredder's who have had similar injuries: do injuries like this effect you long term? After a few weeks when I can shred again, will there always be discomfort or will there always be some pain in my knee after a shred because of this?
