I can do 4 balls, but not 5 yet. I dont think all the moves in footbag are near to being hit. There is so much innovation left to work on. I think everyone does the same moves because they learn off watching each other and dont try and innovate. I cant count how many people I've seen do ripwalk>blur>pixie Butterfly. Nobody throws fairy as much as pixe, and its rare I see swirling moves in a shred, but that doesnt mean people cant do and make up more moves using less common elements. Footbag still has a lot of room for innovation in my opinion. Also I can easily see the day where tripless shredding is the norm.

I can do 4 ball columns and alternating columns consistently. As far as numbers go, at best I can sometimes flashed 5. I can do quite a few 3 ball patterns. I don't know why, but I'm not inspired to be great at juggling and it never can keep my attention for more than a few minutes per prop before I get bored. I can mess around with cigar boxes and clubs for the longest amount of time before I get bored and head back to the footbag.
I don't know about others on this list, but in WA...Matt and Zerbe keep making it so there's a juggling presence at any kicking session. I find it annoying when I want to kick with people and they're constantly distracted by juggling props. IMHO, footbag is just cooler. When I go to kick with people, I want them to kick, not juggle. Juggle on your own time
And...I agree with Noah. There is still lots of room for creativity and new tricks with footbag. Some of the guys we shred with incorporate Capoera (sp?) and headspins into their shred...it looks cool. All you need is one new set and <poof> you have another hundred uniques at your fingertips.

I did come to that seattle juggle festival with my friend Kevin. My real name is Gabriel, or Gabe, but some of my friends call me Jabi for some reason i could never figure out. I was also at that little net tournament in seattle that you and justin showed up to for a bit, and i was at the Vancouver Footbag tournament.
Juana,
Sorry for wanting to talk about juggling which is not that much dissimilar than footbag on a footbag forum. If you don't want to read about juggling I would suggest you not read the small juggling bit in a large footbag forum. Heaven forbid we talk about something other than footbag. When did you become one of the ever so available anal kickers? Also on that note footbag is talked about not only on P-net but also juggling.org should we not talk about footbag on those sites just because they are so called juggling sites? I just find your statements a little skewed. Don't read it if you don't like it. I find that footbag players are talented people and decided to open a forum to see what others are doing? If you have chimed in we have been tying it to footbag by talking about the differences and similarities. In that I do not find it that wrong to talk about something other than footbag considering this forum so far has been one of the wider viewed forum's. Hope all is well and by the time you read this you will be reading at the computer I wrote it at. Hope your weekend is well.
P.S. Do you want to kick with me and Alison tonight??

Noah and Juana,
Hey! Upon conversing with my trusted board of trustee's I have to disagree with your statement that there is a larger potential in footbag than juggling. Juggling has more potenial for a number of different reasons. One juggling is not limited to the hands you can juggle on virtually all parts of your body. From bouncing two balls on your head to balancing to body rolls to kick ups. Where as footbag although may use other body parts are mostly based on the feet. Plus people were juggling balls on the feet long before footbag was invented. I have seen plenty of jugglers be able to juggle two balls on there feet. That's beside the point though. In juggling you are not limited by the number of props used. Let's say you want to do Francis Brunn's finale: Balance pedastal on ball on forehead, pedastal and ball in mouth, spins two hoops on right arm while spinning a ball on the same arm, juggles three rings in his left arm, spins two hoops on his right leg. I have also heard of this trick performed by his brother on top of a six foot unicycle. Juggling props are enless from chairs to balls to tennis cans to spoons anything can be manipulated. With footbag though you are bound to the bag!! I am not saying juggling is better than footbag because footbag is my true love. I am just saying we need to be realistic in our comparisons. You love footbag but to say that it has more possibilities than juggling is kind of absurd. I admit that footbag does have a lot of potential though and hope you all prove me wrong.

One last thing Jauna, I also do contribute by writing in other forums such as female competitors! I just thought I would start another forum for footbaggers who juggle for those footbaggers who are not avid readers of p-net. I just wish people wern't so anal considering that is one of the reasons I stopped playing footbag for a year. I have only revived my interest because I see your enthusiasm and it give me hope that people do it for the love. If I am unable to speak freely of my other interests because footbag players do not want to listen to juggling although most of us do it I think that is kind of whacked. I know you are probably upset at me right now and that I am blowing it out of porportion I just get upset when someone I care about put's what i am doing down. I accept your opinion.

Whoo! Settle down Matt
No one was really attacking you or your beliefs and comparasions between footbag and juggling. If you notice in both Juana and my own posts, neither of us said that footbag has MORE innovative areas than juggling, we simply said that footbag has areas where tremendous growth can be obtained. And considering we all juggle and have posted on it, we must have some interest in juggling.
I dont think anybody was slandering juggling, even if I say I prefer to footbag over juggling--that doesnt mean I hate juggling, but that I would rather footbag. I also enjoy contact juggling (as you previously slandered in a different thread
) and palm spinning, but my main interest lies in footbag. That does not negate my interests in other things, just shows them in order of what I prefer to do.
Hope you aren't too upset we like footbag more!
Noah
PS, my order of prefered ball handling:
1.Footbag
2.Juggling
3.Contact Juggling
4.Palm Spinning

About the Seattle footbag/juggle fest:
The Workshops were great. there were lots of them. When i was there, i felt like it was heaven. So much to learn. I wished i could be there for years to learn everything everyone else there knew.
The obstacle footbag was one thing i really liked, but it should have more obstacles. Short boxes, long boxes, high boxes, and then combinations of all those boxes to make stairs. That would be great.
I wish i had bought juggling balls. Now i'm here experimenting for hours, trying to make decent ones. I have footbags i could juggle with, but they feel too small.
I can only juggle four balls for about 10 throws. Then i always mess up. I can only do 2 things with four balls too. NEVER JuGGLE POOL BALLS. They tend to bounce off each other and hit you, which i learned the hard way.

Noah, Juana,
Please except my apology. I know you were not attacking me and I did take it that way so please except my apology. On regards to footbag and juggling I am stoked that there are so many footbag players who juggle I just wish that fact reciprocated. Footbag is also my first love I just don't increase my skills as rapidly as I do with juggling. Which is one thing I enjoy about juggling. Contact juggling I only hope I can eliminate my disliking of that or atleast keep my opinion to myself if I cannot handle others opinion.
Juana, About anal footbaggers which you think now I am in that category. That is for another forum but I will give the legist here. Many times I am put off buy the agro nature some people portray. " Yeah but can you hit this" " This guys better than that guy" ect. Many times I find lack of support as I felt in your e-mail in the footbag community. That there can be a elitest attitude that I am sure you have felt at times. I guess that is what I consider the agro footbagger. If I am one of those than I can only hope to move away from that.
My order of love:
1.Sex
2.footbag
3. juggling
Much love

Toe guiltless,
When I am down there for sure we will shred it up. Off of shit too! Hopefully come down in the next few months to visit with some friends. If you know of any festivals going on down there let me know ahead of time and me and Alex can book the festival and come down and kick it for a while.

I think footbag has more potential cause its brand new. Jugglings been around for thoughsands of years. It takes an amazing amount of talent, but i dont think its that cutting edge.. It seems very historic, like i think of a jester in the kings court when i think about juggling. All the latest crazes of talent like breakdancing, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, bmx, ., have only been around for what 30 years at the most? Dont forget that this is a multi million dollar industry, with maybe the exception of break dancing, (Im not sure what thier industry brings in) . Footbag to me seems like it would belong in of one of those marketable sports. Juggling just seems like a circus thing, you know? .Footbag seems like it has more potential than juggling competing with other sports, maybe even hockey, baseball, basketball etc... the 90's saw a %500 increse in extreme type sports, and a %30 drop in team sports. Just because juggling is ancient and more of an art than a sport doesn't mean its not cool, but i dont think its gonna be on ESPN or bluetorch anytime soon, but you never know i just saw jumproping on ESPN. Juggling is like one of the most insane parlor tricks, not sport. Comparing footbag to juggling, Is like comparing apples to oranges.

Wicked,
You are right footbag can sell itself more as a extreme sport. But I don't think it is comparable to BMX or Skateboarding only because there is no dangerous element that makes extreme sports. The only thing that is extreme is street hack and I think that is something we can market to ESPN and the extreme games. Those jumproping championships were strange! You are right it is like comparing apples and oranges! Juggling is not extreme in any sense except the mental stamina to endure multiple things at once such as balance and juggling. I think footbag has tons of potential and I encourage everyone to try something different with it! Juggling's potential has so many more factors to it. Juggling has been around much longer than footbag and I think footbag needs to give a lot of credit to juggling. In the past there were numerous amounts of jugglers who manipulated balls with there feet. Footbag has so much potential also and I am excited to see where it will be and know that we are all part of the beggining of where it really is going to go (kind of)! I just hope everyone starts to take footbag in different directions it may not work what you try but we need to start doing unique things incorportating tons of stuff with footbag.
Chris,
I will write in the same e-mail so it is not spam in Dr.Jones eyes! Yeah I am in Olympia Washington a hour away from seattle and two from Portland. In Olympia we got a solid core of kickers Alex, Me, Jane, Aaron, Kevin and some straggelers here and there. In Seattle there is Andrew Johnson, Justin Dale the best in Washington and Ben Schmaltz. So we got a solid core that kick regularly here in Washington. Only 3 hours is Allan Haggett and Ben West and Dan Borsky the best net player in my opinion! It would be sweet to kick with you guys again the last time I was down there I had to leave early. Take it easy and where is Dr. Ridiculous??
