Any Motocycle riders out there?

I'm looking to get a bike soon.

I'm thinking about going mid-range - about 600cc or so.

At the moment, I own a yamaha moped, and I had some issues with oil leakage, which the yamaha people said was normal.

So I'm kinda iffy about buying another Yamaha, but I've not closed the door on them yet.

I don't want to spend a fortune, otherwise I'd be looking a Ducati or something uber classy. But money is an issue, so I'm looking at the more 'generic' (if that's a term that can be applied to motocycles) options like Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki.

What I'm after is what your experiences with any (if not all) are. Are there any type of bikes you'd keep clear of?

Colin (serial thrilla on here) rides motorcycles. He has a Suzuki GSX-r 600, 2001. Really sweet bike, we've had some close calls on it

. In the spring I'm probably getting a bike. Most likely either going to be a 2003 GSX-r or I might buy my friends '03 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6r with a full Hindle exaust, and some appearance stuff (flushmount front signals and a Dr. X undertail for the back).

What kind of bike were you even looking at? Dual sport, supersport, streetbike?

Me and Colin are taking a motorcycle mechanics course sometime after we graduate from highschool together, should be fun.

Edit - Since you mentioned Ducati, I'm assuming that you want a sport bike. Just because Yamaha's mopeds might not be great, doesnt mean that it has anything to do with their other products. Yamaha's sportbikes are awesome! Their 1000 class (YZF R1) is the leader in it's class (which like I just said, is the 1000cc sized bikes). When it come's to sportbikes, especially when you are dealing with the mid sized 600's, there really isnt that much difference in performance. Some have different features/options (GSX-R's have a feature that automatically clicks in the reserve fuel tank when the primary tank is empty, rather than having to switch it on yourself). The only exception is the Kawi ninja ZX-6r. That bike actually has a 636 in it. Not a huge difference, 36 more cubic centimeters for the engine. A bit more horsepower because of it. But back to the point about Yamaha's... their R6's rock!

I was actually looking at getting a naked bike, like the Yamaha FZ6N. I love the look of them.
I'm not against Yamaha because of my crappy little 'Zooma' leaking oil, although their attitude towards that (that is, the attitude at the Yamaha dealership) was a little disappointing. I do like the look of the Yamaha bikes, and would concider getting another one. I just want to make sure that there are no niggling little problems like with my moped, inherant in Yamaha (or any other brand of) bikes.

Is that the first bike you got? Looks like one hell of an awesome machiene.

About the only bike I got a look at this weekend was a Kawasaki Z750N.

It's definately in my price range (under $11K - on the road), and doesn't look too bad. There are some small issues I have with how it does look though.

I guess in reality, it comes down to going for a test ride (which will be some time away as I don't have my licence yet).

I'm just a wannabe, but any of those manufacturers you listed with the midranged 600 cc bikes are all pretty nice. Look for reviews comparing them, that's what I did. There are a couple sites that review all those listed midranged bikes you listed, also Sports Bike magazines have reviews about them all, comparing all the pros and cons about them. It seems that the Yamaha R6 is always ranked pretty high, sometimes a little small for the larger guys, that's the bike that I want to get once I'm out of college. As long as you get a good deal though, any of those bikes should run well for what you want.

I already posted this on my footblog, but why not here too. I used photoshop 7 and transformed this R6 into a paint job I'd like to have done on it. A Japanese Rising Sun theme, pretty sweet ass.

Ya it was my first bike i got. No issues with the bike whatsoever. Trust me, there has been some really close calls. Some people that drive around here are morons and almost seem like they want to hit ya

. I have gotten into an accident with it, but never didnt do much damage at all. Probably around 500 $ worth of repair. I agree with you on the z750. There awesome bikes and is around the price range for lots of people. You will definatly have tonnes of fun.
Im doing a couple mods for the bike this winter. Im buying a chrome yellow windscreen, and getting yellow underglow for it, and maybe thinking of getting a full high mount Yoshimura exhaust for it. I have a Yosh for it right now but its just a bolt on pipe. If you have any questions you can ask me anytime

Yes Colin's bike is definately awesome. I can't wait to see it when he puts the chromed yellow windscreen on it and underglow.

John, that looks awesome! Very cool photoshop work. And it's a nice looking paint scheme too

I love to ride dirtbikes but never tried a street bike.. That would be cool to get a bunch of footbaggers with motorcylces and do road trips or something... Not alot of footbaggers i know have motorcycles

I want to own one someday.

Whoa! Sweet 600RR!!! Yeah you are right, it's a Honda CBR 600RR.

I was kind of turned on to those for a while. I think that I might buy my friends 2003 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6r off of him in the spring. Red color, Dr. X Undertail kit, full Hindle exaust, flushmounts, and hugger to protect the undertail kit. I'll post up some pictures soon of it.
