Do you like your style?

Post by mosher »

I have seen Jeremy O'Wheelj say several times recently that 'nobody' likes their own style and this made me wonder how true and universal this statement really was.

I kinda like my style, I mean sure there are always going to be little things I am honing and stuff (I am wild sometimes) but in general I am a fan.

So to quench my curiosity this thread exists.

I don't even know what my style is - I have never see my shred... But I think that i can tolerate my style.

When i first saw my style, i wasn't a big fan, but i think it has improved and now i just tolerate it.

I love my style. By style I'm refering to the tricks that I try and how I link them. Since I usally play for myself, I make it a point to only do what I feel like doing, and keeping away from tricks that I don't like. I don't really know how I appear, because I don't video tape myself, but I don't really care about that- as long as my tricks aren't horribly THE.

good topic, tom !
hmmm... i think i dont have much of a style yet.
sometimes, when i'm in the groove, my game is
energetic and fast, i like that.
for the base level i'm at, my variety aint too bad.
but i hunch a lot, i travel too much and my athletic
fantasy some times makes me rush things a bit.
i definitly need more control and a small spoon of
smooveness...i voted for tolerance...

I like how my style feels, but then I've never seen myself shred (never been recorded), so I can't really say for sure.

I like my style, but I wouldn't say I LOVE it. There are a lot of things I want to work on (including BUTTERFLIES?........)

I find my style tolerable. One thing that I don't like about my styles is that sometimes I tend to pixie too high, wait, and then dex really fast at the end. It doesn't look very smooth sometimes. I like my toe spinning and toe ducking though... :)

Interesting question, but I didn`t like the poll options. Love and Hate are such strong words, I felt there was very little room for people to express how they really feel about their style.

I think adding the options `I like my style` and `I don`t like my style` would have made this better.

I definitely don`t hate my style, but I don`t love it either. There are very few players whose style I would say I `love.` A lot of Finns on that list for some reason.

Personally, I kinda like my style now. I`ve been playing for over 7 years, and my style has changed a lot over that period of time. I have definitely had phases where I disliked my style. All I can say is that if you currently dislike your own style, you CAN change it, though it takes time. And even if you don`t try to actively change your style, it may change over time anyway.

I wouldnt say i 'hate' anything, but i really really dislike my style. my clippers arent flat enough and this makes me exaggerate stuff and it sucks. i hunch a bit too i think, i can be messy, i dont look like im really in control of anything.

yeh the board is going screwy eh...

I like it, I think from what others have said and watching videos of myself that I spend the same amount of time on every trick and that helps make it look calm and controlled.

Sorry for being so narrow in the poll options. I actually tried to make more but they all wound up sounding the same ("I kind of like my style", "I somewhat like my style", "I like my style a bit", "I have good and bad days", "I like my spins but not my torques", "On wednesdays", "If my style were a colour, it would be beige", "My style is named Ruben", "I feel melancholy in regards to my style", "My style makes me puke rage", "If there was a Bad Style Team at school, I would be their mascot and mentor" etc.) and so I simplified it to a more binary system with "love it" being a 1 and "hate it" of course a zero. Of course the obvious default "other" must still exist, which in this case lies somewhere between the 1 and the 0.

Tolerating sorta means you like parts and dislike parts. .. or maybe you sorta put up with all of it.. or maybe you are kinda into all of it. whatever.

Also, being restricted in that sense encourages you to lash out and declare why you didn't fit into my restrictive catagories thus encouraging discussion. :D

I've been plaing for 3 years and I tolerate my style now... but it's after long hard working(3 years) to immprowe it. And I hate people talking that my style is ugly or something... they should keep their oppinions for theirselves! I think nice style, for people who hasn't got it from the beginning, is coming with time and hard work.
anyways, I think it's getting better!
