Awesome work Byrin - that lego stuff rocks.

Ignore the conservatives like Andrew  - if more people played lego the world would be a better place :P

Andrew, in the words of some sheep from some movie I saw once - baaa raaaam you!

I'm going to accept your challenge to create a a lego Laver. I tried once using red pieces (to match my red shoes) but it turns out I don't have enough red pieces. This Laver will be the first multicoloured Laver ever to hit the markets. Maybe I'll put some weaponry on it too...

I was doing some homework on knee injuries and whatnot and it seems that I'm suffering from an inflammed/degenerated patella tendon (the ligament that connects the kneecap to the tibia) in both knees. Athletes who do a lot of jumping are often struck with this, hence the nickname 'jumper's knee'.

That's a rough summary of what it is. I couldn't find a lot of sites that actually talk indepth about what is, what causes it, etc but I did findthis site - Sports Injury Clinic and this one - Physio Room.

My injury seems to be a 'Grade 3' injury:
Grade 3: Pain during activity which prevents you from training / performing at your best.

Rest completely from the aggravating activity. Replace it with swimming / running in water (if pain allows).
See a sports injury specialist / therapist who can apply sports massage techniques and advise on rehabilitation.
How much rest it is I should get, I don't know. Probably more then a week (which is what I was hoping for). Oh wait, here's some good news:
The key to recovering from Patellar Tendinopathy is in trying to elicit a healing response without overloading the tendon. This may require rest from sporting activities for up to three months.
Awesome.

Anyways, I'm feeling pretty down about everything in general. It doesn't hurt too much (it does today because I played bball at noon) to walk to/fro my room (I sleep in the basement so I have to endure about 10 steps twice a day). It's all a bit much - I don't want to be forced not to shred for another month. I had to take 4 weeks off due to shin splints and now this.

*sighs*

And on top of that, I totally don't have time to play as much Final Fantasy Legends 2 as I had hoped when I got home. That really pushes me over the edge  .

I can kick :)

After some squats in the shower, and two sick days, my knees mysteriously healed. I kicked Friday evening for a total of about 2 hours, going over things and trying to get my flow back. Saturday when babysitting my little cousin I pulled my groin.

I pulled my groin! People ask me it hurts where? I say put your hand right there! I pulled my groin!

Haha, oh lordy when I watched Erik's vid with that song on it I giggled like a school girl.

Anywho, I kicked today with very very minor pain in my knees. Becuase of the ole groin, I backed off on atomic sets, Eggbeaters and one Torque convinced me not to do those either. I ended up just trying to do some strings and that went well enough. I seriously thought I hit more interesting runs but I guess not. All of them were averaging around 5 - 10 contacts, with maybe the odd few that were higher. They weren't very diverse either, but *shrugs*. That will come.

So here's what went down, almost as posted in the New Runs section:

A lot of Dimwalk > Blur x 2
Whirl > Pdx Whirl x 3 on bs
Run > Pdx Torque > ... > Pdx DLO > Butterfly > Pdx DLO
Stepping Whirl > ... > Blurry Whirl > ... > other Blurry Whirl (had intended to hit the other Stepping Whirl)
Blurry Torque > ... > Stepping Blender off the foot

And that's about it, with the exceptions of the strings I came close to hitting - I'll post those when I hit 'em. Something that I was proud of - I hit weakside Blurry Torque first attempt (this session, not ever) this evening (and dropped the Osis to seal it ). I would have hit it on the otherside, but alas when my groin heals. I also hit Stepping Blender on both sides - a funky trick indeed. I can't wait until tomorrow's shred. It'll be limited due to all the buttload of work I missed and have due... *sighs*

My first kick since last post... wait... no it wasn't. I kicked the day afterwards but can't remember what I hit. I know I did something that I wanted to post but was too lazy to do it.

This evening I kicked for 4 hours, from 5 - 9 with a 10 minute break to sit at the table with my folks to eat supper. I only helped myself to a bit of rice and milk, then went back downstairs to engage in more footbag activities.

The first 1.5 hours I worked on doing links and going over tricks and sets and what not. I came close to Rubberman, dropping on the 5th trick. I also had Tap > Atom Smasher off my foot.

Then I spent an hour doing strings (or attempt atleast). They were decently long and I'm starting to put more variety into them. Less BOPs and more of the good stuff. Less is more.

The final 1.5 hours was spent trying to hit this 9 tripless combo. It was crazy, and it hurt my knees a lot by the end, but I ended up having the last trick off my foot. The combo was:

Pixie Butterfly > Ripwalk > Ducking Butterfly > Pdx Whirl > Spinning Butterfly > Spinning Pdx Mirage > Legbeater > Spinning Osis > Torque

I dropped it the most on Pdx Whirl - everything before that I was hitting with roughly 85% consistancy. I kept turning my body *just slightly* to prepare for the spin, which would result in the bag landing on the very edge of my Laver and fly off when I set it.

Anywho, it was a good session. I won't be kicking this weekend as I'm off up north to visit some friends so I probably won't be able to shred until Sunday evening - if not then than on Monday after school.

EDIt - Goddamn it Byrin. How could you forget the best part of the day?

At school I was kicking with some people in the hallways. One of those kicking was a very athletic person who is out of basketball due to a shoulder injury. Anyways, a teacher came to tell us not to kick in the school yadda yadda yadda and he said:

"This isn't hacky sack Ms. ~insert her name here~. It's footbag!"

No exaggeration, my face was like -> 8O . Then I kept staring at him and shortly after he left. I'm going to ask him where he picked up that lingo tomorrow if we kick again. Man, if he gets into footbag I can see him being so good. I'm sure he'd give me a run for my money :D

Just a quick update on life through my eyes.

School is so and so. I'm doing good in all my subjects, but the setup in my Math class is such that if you fuck up, you're screwed. I hate it and pray that I don't get below 65% on any quiz/test in the next few school weeks.

I kicked last night harder then intended, and as a result my knees are feeling really sore. I'm going to start stretching and exercising them to help promote healing. This includes doing squats and lots of leg extensions while sitting in a chair.

Footbag has been pretty slow, largely due to my knees. I'm really rusty on everything but seemed to be doing well with double downs and pixie ducking last nite. I hit Pixie Ducking Paradon first attempt ever and that completely blew my mind. That was after I did Phoenixes on both sides (6/10 on strongside, 5/10 on weakside). I then proceeded to hit Pixie Ducking Whirl on both sides. That hurt my knees. Afterwards I worked on double downs and had Plasticman roll off my foot (would've been the second time I've ever hit it) and doubled my consec Barfly record - it's now 4. I hit Bullwhip first attempt on my strongside and had it off my foot on my weak side. That trick is so tricky.

For the last half an hour or so I decided to just chill out and try whatever. I remembered pondering up Gyro Torquescrew nearly a year ago so I tried that. I ended up hitting it, then freezing when I caught it. I remember I was just looking at my hand and thinking "Holy hell... It's in my hand..." Ah good times. It can be viewed here.

I also tried Pdx Torquescrew and had it real close, but my knees felt very stiff, sore and in discomfort so I didn't go for it. One of these days perhaps.

So that's my story. I haven't kicked with the guy mentioned in my earlier post, which sucks but I know I'll get the opportunity again. When it does come around, I'll ask him.

EDIT: Seriously. What the fuck is this all about?

I kicked for roughly 80ish minutes this evening, working on tiltless strings. Since I can't go full tilt, I reckon that working the 2 adds is the best way to go.

I didn't count contacts but rather I grabbed my watch and timed each string. I started off decent, then for a very long time was really sucking it up, then ended on a slightly better note. Here are some of the results:

55 seconds was my longest run, followed by two that were in the mid 40's and probably around fifteen that were in the 20's. My endurance is pretty horrid so I felt pretty out of it when the 40 second mark rolled by. Actually, I felt pretty out of it for almost the entire session - goes to show what slack-assing does to a guy :( .

Anywho, I'm hoping that if I should keep exercising that my knees may miraculously (sp?) be healed and can resume normal shredding procedures over the holidays (preferably be Monday). If that doesn't happen, I'll be adding a new pair of knees to my list this year.

C'mon Santa!

I kicked again this evening for roughly 90 minutes, doing the same thing I did yesterday evening. It went pretty well, my strings (generally) were a lot longer. My longest string this evening was 46 seconds. I had about five that were in the 30's and atleast twenty that were in the 20's. Like I said, my strings were generally a lot longer tonite.

I'm doing my leg extensions as I type this up. I skipped out on the squats, just because I don't think I should stress them too much too quickly (a few resting days between each squat session). The leg extensions I do almost everynight and at school when I have nothing else to do. So far I'm noticing promising results - my left knee hasn't been acting up and I don't recall it being a bother during my session.

Something that I did notice, however, is that my lower calf (actually it's below my calf, the section that's between the calf muscle and ankle on the inside) on my left leg has been acting up again. It feels like the same injury that I was suffering before my knees started giving me problems :( . I don't know what caused it - my best guess is playing on my toes a lot. It's not too serious now, so with a few rest days it shouldn't be too bad.

Tomorrow I'm going to a Christmas party that I have mixed feelings about, then on Saturday I'm babysitting for my cousin for the entire day. The following week I plan on going to Edmonton to kick with the crew and do some Christmas shopping within one of the WORLD'S LARGEST MALL! I better find what I'm looking for!

The Christmas party was really fun, I had a blast. My arms are still really sore from participating in a chin up contest, which serves me right for slacking off since I moved. I got home at 1am that night, went straight to bed, then got out of bed at 1pm. I think that's the longest sleep I've ever had 8O

Saturday was a lazy day. Screwed around. Not much to say about that, other than that Kevin, Rory and I made plans to kick for the new year! It should be great! I hope Kevin is up for some hardcore shred by then (I hope I am too for that matter).

Today was another lazy day. I kicked for roughly 80 minutes, feeling fine. My knees weren't giving my any troubles until, when performing a Bubbabeater, my right leg gave out. That made my knee hurt a bit, but the pain gradually went away. The part under my left calf was hurting after a few pixie sets. That kind of pissed me off. I'll probably have to change the entire way I perform the set to prevent it from reoccuring.

What went down this session... Oh yes. I worked on DLOs and Eggbeaters to start it off. They are so sweet. For the most part I just worked on linking the two tricks together. Then I did some pixie sets (which is when my leg started hurting). I hit Smog and Pigbeater on both sides before moving on. I worked on stepping sets afterwards, then some double downs. I hit Spinning Clipper > Scorpion's Tail first attempt on both sides to end my session. That was quite something.

Something I've noticed this session was the transition of my strong leg. Everything that I did with my left leg (the exception being DLOs) felt a lot smoother, cleaner and just... not weak. It's a bit akward, but great. I feel just as comfortable doing sets, double downs and spinning with my left leg as I do my right. It's as if I was suddenly struck with a ambidextrous bug...

Is this the beginning of something greater? Maybe...

Oh yeah, Gyro Torquescrew :P

I haven't kicked too much since my last post. Actually, I only had one kick since. It was alright. I can remember it like my first date - only the bad things and the first kiss part. I know that my legs were really tired after a few (failed) Eggbeaters. They come to me on good days and real bad days. That nite I hit Torque > Pdx Torque on both sides and had Mobius > Pdx Torque off my foot on both sides. I was playing around with another trick, coming close to it on both sides. VERY STYLIE and EQUALLY DIFFICULT. Hopefully I can pull it together for Kevin and Rory on New Years.

That was Monday evening I do believe. Earlier that day I was babysitting my little cousin and we played Halo for atleast 7 hours. We ended up beating the game! Woot! So much fun. I got agitated a lot at him though, screaming at him to not shoot me (we were playing co-operative) and to not waste his ammo, or for him to stop running away from the enemies and help me fight them (which lead to my death on numerous occasions). Other then that, it was fun. I babysit again tomorrow (Wednesday). Maybe I can convince him to beat the game again...

I've been using our new exercise machine that we got earlier this week. It's such a good way to stay in shape when I don't shred. I've been on it twice so far, both sessions burning atleast 700 calories! Oh yeah! Cardio to get some endurance. I'm also receiving a bench press from a friend of my parents so now I can finally start working out again. It'll be so sweet :)

Wednesday while babysitting my little cousin his older brother (still my younger cousin by 3 months or so) came home and he brought with him Dungeons and Dragons: Hereos fpr XBox. We started playing it around 4 in the afternoon and didn't put the controllers down until 3 in the morning. I woke up at 10 and by 10:30 we started playing it again. The game was over by 12:30. Such a fun game, but man, they don't give you much to watch after you beat the boss. It's just like "you beat the game, everyone is happy, game over".

I ended up staying with my aunty until Christmas Eve. On that day, Barrett (the cousin who is a few months younger then I) and I went snowboarding at teh Rabbit Hill just outside of Devon. It was the first time I've been boarding in a year. The last time was at that same hill last Christmas, and that was the first time I've been boarding in a year as well so you can imagine my anxiety. I caught on quickly though and had a blast.

Christmas was good. I didn't get a lot but then again I never asked for much. Today, Boxing Day, we visited my grandmother at my aunty and uncle's house. She's put on weight and looks a lot better so that's good.

As for footbag, I had a late nite session that started at around 11:30 and ended at 1:30. I'm definitely pretty rusty but still managed a trick or two. I hit Vortex bsos as well as DSO > Dimwalk bsos. That's about all I can remember. Oh yes, and I was working on linking pixie tricks out of Eggbeaters and DLOs. That was iffy but will get better soon since my knees aren't hurting anymore (but still trying to take it easy). Symposium tricks make me weary and that brings me to a dilemma for the Sick 3 comp. I don't know what I should try/hit for it. I'll leave it for when I go to Edmonton for New Years.

Anyways, I hope everyone's Christmas was great and that your New Years is even better! G'nite folks.

I would do triple dexes, but I don't have very many that I feel confident enough to hit. Fusion > Blurriest > Mobius? That could work...

Today I wasn't kicking very well - an off day you could say... in the hay by the bay don't you pay for the ray that just may go and lay in your way so you stray to get away but you yeah I'm done.

Some highlights of this session included:

12 consec Ripwalks - a new record (which resulted in my right knee hurting)
Magellan > PLO > rpt > Smear > PLO > rpt > Magellan - my longest pixie string

What else... I hit DSO unintentionaly midstring... and I'm positive that about wraps it up.

When I'm not kicking, I'm on the computer playing Lufia 2. Sweet game. I love RPG's for the SNES.

New years eve I went to Edmonton and met up with Kevin Regamey and Rory Dawson. I also met Geoff, who is just starting out I do believe. What was supposed to be an easy, dexless session at 9:30am turned out to last 3 hours and comprised of many dexterities. I hit weakside Superfly during this session and upped my Smear record to 8. Some good runs and attempts went down. I missed Kevin's long symp string that ended with a close attempt at Pdx Symple Blender. Craaaaazy. He was also doing clippers. Clippers!

We later kicked again at roughly... 8ish? Around there? We were pretty pooped. I can't remember too much that went down. I know Kevin was hitting Smogs and Eggbeaters like cake and Rory was complaining about how he's used to playing carpet and not slippery floors. Ah good times.

I don't think I'll play for the next few days to give my legs some rest. I was so sore New Years day. I should've stretched, but I didn't. Today I took a bath and they feel a lot better. Hurrah!

A little post to let people know what's happening on my side of Onoway...

Finals have been coming around for the first semester so I've been really busy. Two quizzes and 3 review tests in Math, a unit test and a final inclass essay in Social and a 2 chapter test in Chem. Fun stuff. Next week, well the month of January, will be a lot similar I am assuming.

Nick Laroche's Influenced kicks so much ass.

My knees have been feeling better since I haven't been kicking, which is great. I'm fulfilling two of my New Year resolutions at once - working out / putting more time into school. Celebrate!

On to footbag, I kicked for roughly an hour yesterday with minimul pain in my knees but my lower leg pain came back. Didn't stop me from hitting Pdx Torque, Pdx DLO, Pdx Eggbeater, Mobius, Pdx Drifter and Vortex within very few attempts on both sides though. It's a pain that I can play through if I just take it easy on the sets on that side. DSO is an uber fun trick to do, I love it. I hit it twice midstring with my weak leg, which was awesome. Other then that, I just did tiltless strings. I may do more tonite and if my knees feel good I'll go over some 3 and 4 add tricks.

I've been listening to Influenced for about 20 minutes and I still love it. I totally want to check out what other songs Nick has to offer :D

EDIT - Don't know why I have to include this, but I have wicked awesome ideas for videos. Alls I need is a working camcorder, a better computer and movie making software... $$$

Duuuuuuuuuuude! Editing is the most fun everrrr! You can puke out such magic with such little work! And then you have a record of what you were hitting at that time and they are great things to show your non-shred buddies.

I always picture how I could make a movie to whatever song I am listening to. It's amazing what can result when you simply combine some music with some footbag clips, accedental awesome often ensues!

The world needs more stylie wylie footage!

And the Lord said "Let there be footage."

Footage from today's session.

I took an entire memory card's worth of footage for you Tom. I'll give you a rundown of the videos here :)

The first 3 and the 6th ones are stylie tricks, strings, combos, etc that I went for. The first video is 35 contacts of things like ss no-plant Clippers, alternating Clippers that are like Drifters with no dexterities, Osii > Spin Clips, stylin Ducking Clippers and a DSO midstring.

The second video is more on the Ducking Clippers and a DSO on the otherside in that string. There is also a Spinning Clipper with no plant.

The third video is exactly how it appears - Spinning Clipper with no plant > Gyro Simple Osis (for you Kevin!). Also some stylie Zulu Clippers at the end.

The fourth video I went for spinning, but after watching it realized that most of the spinning was due to Osii. I did, however, hit Osis > Mobius twice (a new link) on one side and dropped the other.

The fifth video is me hitting Osis > Mobius on the side I dropped it on.

The sixth video is a Spinning Weaving Osis with no plant. Very hard and unsealed :/

The seventh is a string with Blender bsos and ends with Spinning Pdx Blender off my foot. The first Blender I do not like, but I worked with it.

Finally, the last video is Spinning Osis > Pdx Eggbeater. I hit it on the other side first attempt after the footage was taken.

It was a fun session today :)

EDIt - Please atleast view a few of them as it took me a fucken long time to upload the videos :P. Thanks!

I love getting things in the mail!

Along with a bank statement, my IFPA t-shirt came in. Woo hoo! I'm wearing it as we speak (actually I put it on almost right away) and I dub it my official shred-circle shirt. I plan on getting my name and alias on modified put on it then get all of YOU people to sign it when we meet. Newbs to BAP, I want everyone to sign it then I'll put it on my wall as a keepsake.

It's hard not being able to kick, especially right after reading how amazing Kevin is doing with his clippers and how Rory hit a toe - toe 5 add. I want to kick with them again real badly. Hell, I want to resume the 2 hour hardcore daily drill/shred sessions again. But alas... alas...

Tomorrow is supposed to dip to -40 degrees. I'm hoping it will, I really don't feel like going to school and being raped with exams and tests. Just a few more days then I get roughly a week off due to diplomas, final exams, etc etc.

And yeah, remember how I hit Ripwalk midstring on New Year's Eve, and you and Rory were like, "WHOA THAT DIDN'T JUST HAPPEN DID IT?" I hit it midstring like 8 times the other day! mwuahahaha

Anyway, did you do your tests? I still went to college, but lots of people weren't not there, probably because they were silly people who wanted to avoid the cold.

Furthermore, -40 is where Fahrenheit and Celsius cross over and mean the same thing. So all you Americans, when we say -40degrees, we mean YOUR -40 degrees too.

That's why Canada is hardcore.
