standard winter equipment is right! especially in winnipeg where our day time highs have been sitting at about -33 recently.

what a day. i eneded up getting to sleep last night at about 4 am or so. i hit the sac at about 2 but couldn't sleep because i had slept in late. so getting up at 7 to go to work for 8 was even less fun. i do how ever manage to maitain on little to no sleep. i must have massive adrenal glands. any way, i pulled the same muscle in my back as i did last monday while putting away the order. i have to start lifting properly, because this can't keep happening. i had a good long soak in the tub and then did some streching and evey thing seemed to work it's self out.

derek, josh and i had set up to meet at the Y, which neither of them had been to before, to shred at 7. every thing was timed perfectly and running smoothly, until i noticed i was out of gas. i headed to the gas station, filled her up and went to pay, when i realized i didn't have my wallet (which was left on the bathroom counter). i had to leave all my auto info and run home to get my cash. as i'm driving back to pay, derek calls me on my cell and says he's running late as well. not good. i figured the other 2 would be there and would start with out me. i wound up being a half hour late and felt super bad. even worse when i found out josh showed up at 6:30 to warm up. i'm such an idiot. josh and i got our shred on and derek showed up at about 8. jess came by at about 9:30 after work.

i was really happy with how i was playing! i hit so many new combos, runs, moves. it was great. i really felt on form!
so new stuff: smoke mid string, smoke bsos, pdx whirl> barfly> spinning osis> pdx blender> pdx whirl, possibly some others i can't think of as well.
oldies but goodies: blubberman, rubberman, ripstein (first try)>run, pigbeater bsos (probably the first time since april), a run with pigbeater and bedwetter using different eggbeaters, whirling swirl bsos, spinning pdx blender, mobius midstring twice.
close but no cigar: ripstein> whirling swirl, whirling swirl> ripstein, toe haze, yoda (or is it ewalk? ends on butterfly, i'm not sure which. i've hit it before, but not tonight), foodprocessor> inspinning osis, smoke> sidewalk.
derek had a savage run with ps whirl> pswhirl, tomohawk> tomohawk, blurry whirl> blurry whirl, blurry drifter and tombstone in it. it was a stupid good run! he also hit ripped warrior> ripped warrior first try and, as usual, managed to boggle the mind.
josh had some really great runs too. his stepping set has improved and same with his flip pixie. he had plo>plo>plo>plo> tripwalk> butterfly> dyno> torque> run which he was pretty stoked about.
jess showed up later but still managed to impress. she threw down some far legovers mid string, hit pixie> pixie no problem and was working atw> flip legover, which really impressed us. mirage still seems to elude her, but with some changes in technique i think she'll have it down pat.

i'm off to strech and read a book, and go to sleep.

also i'm sad tom chopped off his hair. it was so bad ass!!!

Awesome stuff Andrew - sounds like you're in good form!

Yoda is apparantly pixie downtime ripwalk - also sometimes pixie da da curve - but a downtime ripwalk is basically a da da curve with the first dexing foot tapping the ground so they are pretty similar!

E-walk is a frantic butterfly - so pixie quantum butterfly. Same jobs but basically there is a pause before the second dex in yoda and a pause before the third dex in E-walk - although not much of one because it's hard to get any height out of a frantic set. (or at least hard for me)

Hope that helps - I think you probably hit E-Walk (I doubt you'd boast that much about hitting pixie da da curve and whirling swirl>ripstein in the same post) - so big props because that's hard!

That statement is true so long as by "so bad" you meant "such a mega pain in the".

Shag is great, like what you and Johnny have, but mine was loooonng and terrible. A pony tail has greatly varying features of equally varying merrit. Ok, so they are shockingly cute, but is that cute-ness worth not being able to wear your hair down EVER??

Once your hair eclipses the shag lines and gets to be just plain long it starts to kinda suck. It's like a friend that you like hanging out with *sometimes* but you are forced to hang out with them always.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to have no hair again, it's been so long.

Sorry for making you sad Andrew.

yeah, jeremy, it was ewalk. i thought ewalk might have been frantic mirage, and i knew that yoda ended on clipper, so i grabbed the ball and ran with that.

was talking with dave a couple days ago and he inspired me to get up and play abit. it's been so busy since christmas at work that i really dodn't have the energy to play after work.

any way, i was working on quantum sets, because they are fun and still new to me. i managed quantum whirl both sides, slapping whirl both sides, plasma both sides and slapping paradon one side sides. i had sopme close attempts at quantum dlo but didn't quite have the speed. managed it once bare foot, but no dice in shoes. i did manage slapping dlo on one side, but couldn't get the height on the other.

the real highlight of the session was trying some links into and out of quantum. beta smear> tripwalk feels really cool. tapping legover> toe blur is cool, and i think i'll try slapping legover> tapping legover> tapping legover> slapping legover next time. my faves though were tripwalk> bedwetter, which took me a long time to hit. i'll work up to ewalk> bedwetter, which i think is the coolest rewind ever! and fog> plasma. but i think the plasm might have been the. shoey at the least.

next session i guess will be saturday some time, if not everyone is hung over... happy new year everyone.

oh guy, come on man, give me some time here!

i've decided to go back wards. i'm not going to hit many 5's for a while. i have said this before, but now it's very true. i want to step back and work the basics of my game again. i had been really working alot of 5's that were involving concepts that i feel i haven't yet mastered. in particular i'm going back to work on whirls, drifters, dlos, eggbeaters, double downs, barrages. these are the tricks that i'm very one sided on. sets i would say i am very both sided, i can do them all with equal confidance. some sets are better in one side or the other, good atomic dexing leg is left, nuke is right, quantum is right, yadda yadda yadda
anyway, i want to even out my downtime components to my sets in equality. so that's the goal for the new year.

we got about 50cm of snow the past couple days, so my sis and i built a qunizee( or is it quindsie, quinsey, quindzee, or some thing else?). basically what you do it pile up lots and lots of snow and let it freeze overnight and then dig it out the next day and turn it into a house. it's pretty cool, and it's big, standing at about 5 feet high. i can walk around in it and stand crouched. it's cool. i want to pile abunch more snow against one of it's walls and make a second room. winters in winnipeg are boring!!!!!!

in other news, winnipeg is again canada's murder capital! what a city!

people need to grow thicker skin.

I think it's quinsey, but I'm not sure. We used to make those all the time, too. We had a bonfire on the night of the big storm in Marita's backyard with a really lame rainbow flame thingy that was supposed to burn all different colours. Then we did flips into the snow and buried Marita. I got my brother to film me for a minute outside today -- so much snow!
PROPS on all that stuff from before!! That's so sick!!!!

KWINZEE

It was in cranium! :D

I used to build those all the freakin' time...but for the past few years we haven't gotten enough snow to do so. :(

The second room thing is hard to do, though I managed it once. It's tough because you'd be amazed how much the sides of those things harden up. It also depends how thick you left the walls...if it's anything more than 10 cm, you'll be using a spade. :)

But seriously, do it regardless. The one I connected was actually via a tunnel you had to crawl through on your belly. A good 5 foot tunnel to another chamber slightly smaller than the first. Pretty slick.

In outdoor ed in Junior high, we got into pairs and built them for one of the classes...pretty muh the most snow we've had in like 10 years. Once everyone was finished, we could tour each and see how many people could fit into it. Ours was fucking pimp, it had a door and everything...it fit 14 people, sitting, comfortably. In t-shirts. When it was -25 to -30 degrees outside. Bam.

Go make a kwinzee. :P

word, "kwinzees" are the bomb. the temperature here in winnipeg has been sitting at about -40 and the wind just cuts you down, so i haven't been out side as much as normal and haven't gotten into the construction of my kwinzee's second room.

okay i just paid my car insurace the other day and went to put the sticker on my plates. it was -47 that day and the wind was gusty and super cold. well i peel off the sticker and go to apply it to my plate. it hits the plate and shatters! fucking hell. a plastic sticker shattered, and i mean like split into about 8-10 peices and fell to the ground. not just cracked, but litterally shattered. in a city with a normal temperature a plastic sticker wouldn't shatter. i need to move some place a bit more mild.

any way. i had a sick session today. i have played ever day since newyear and i plan to shred every day possible. any day possible means any day where i have an hour to spare when i am not injured, sick or otherwise unwell, i shred. well i was doing some strings after my warm up and befor i got down to schooling. i was hitting some both sided inspinning mid string. bsos inspinning osis was a highlight. thanks to red for filming allan in fourkast, i'm getting so much inspiration from that video. i was really proud of blur> smog> smoke> blender> barfly spinning osis mid run first try! it came totally out of no where too which was even cooler. i hit smog bsos and smoke bsos with ease. couldn't do the 2 same string though. also managed tombstone bsos. such a fun trick, i plan on doing it more.

i then got into my schooling. working the crap out of whirls. just basic whirls from clip, toe and pdx. no symp, no ps, pixie, stepping, blurry, fairy, ducking, spinning. nothing but the basics. i really went hard. i upped my consecutive pdx whirl record from something like 8 (i can't remember, but not many) to 16. woot. this is huge for me, because 2 weeks ago i was having trouble with my flip pdx whirl, could bearly start strings with it, after 4 days of schooling whirls it feels natural. pdx whirl> whirl> rpt is a drill i have really been working on, and ever session i seem to lengthen my average attempts by about 3 contacts. it's fun.

i think after this whirls week i'll move on to drifters, then maybe barrages, eggbeaters, dlos, and finish off with double downs. my double downs used to be so strong, but then i stopped doing them. it makes me sad, because i just can't seem to throw them into and out of anything, like i feel i used to be able to do. the only thing that really seems to be working is my barfly. damn you world.

well. i'm streched and fed, so it's now time for bed.

over and out.

played saturday with erik and derek and had a pretty good session. i'm feeling almost back to normal. the knee still feels weak, as if it could explode at any minute, but after every session it feels a little stronger.

derek hurt his ankle right after we finished warming up, so he filmed for a bit. he decided to play a bit more and set the camea up to film, but hurt his ankle again fairly quickly and sat out for near an hour. of course, after he shut the camera off and started playing again he was playing pretty well.

erik is looking good. his injury doesn't seem to have any effect on how he plays, he's going pretty hard, but he's still avoiding lots of moves. he had some awesome runs. blurriest> ripwalk bsos and fog in the same run. it was a run of about 20 contacts i think and was solid all the way through. he was busting alot of fives and had really long runs through out.

i was having a tough time at the begining and my runs were like 7 contacts max. i think it's because i ate too much thai food too quickly. it eventually got better and i felt like i was playing really really well. i had a shuffle run that was the following:
tapdown> blur> tapdown> blur> legbeater> stepping s mirage> legbeater> stepping s mirage> magellan> plo> magellan> plo> pixie same pickup> smear> pixie s mirage> smear> pixie same mirage> hand catch. i was pretty happy about that because it's been a while since i'd had a shuffle run like that for quite awhile. i also had a really long run that was mostly shuffle based. what i remember from it was ...>stepping clipper> sidewalk> schmoe> parkwalk> ripwalk> stepping clipper> sidewalk> schmoe> parkwalk> ripwalk> ...> rubberman> osis> drop

i also hit foodprocessor> inspinning osis on my 3rd attempt which pleased me alot. toobad i miffed the hand catch  derek and i were hitting this pdx torque> pdx blender combo and i hit it first try which was pretty crazy. pdx blender i can hit fairly easily, pdx torque is another story. and to set out of it as well as i was doing was just nutbar! i almost got it repeat but didn't have a good enough set out of the second pdx torque. since my torques were so on i decided to try blurry torques. i had it bsos off my foot. got one down first try and kept the run going and hit the second one, but it was bad set and i couldn't hit any thing out of it, which was pretty balls.

i tried to beat my consecutive 5 add record, but missed it. the combo was blurry whirl> blurry whirl> pdx torque> pdx blender> ps whirl> ps whirl, but i dropped the second ps whirl.

all things considered it was a good session. i didn't play today because i was sore after my massage. oh yeah. i was an hour late for my massage. it's a good thing gilles is so chill. i called him at about 11:15 and said i was sorry and that i'd be there in 20 minutes if he didn't have a client after me. he didn't so i rushed out and got there in quite a state. he was chilling out with his feet up and having a cuppa. he even made me one. he really went to work on my back, and it's been tender all day since. i had some tense muscles one one side that had tightened up because i had strained the other ones and it had over compensated. it took alot of work but got the knots out. i should probably ahve a hot bath just to keep them loose, but tomorrow i'll have a long, steaming hot shower and just strech them out alot befor work.

man, i love footbag. it's incredible how the little things can make you so happy!

i've been continuing with schooling of the basics. this week has been drifters. i haven't been doing nearly as much as the past week because work is pretty crazy right now. we are 2 cooks and a kitchen manager short, so things are pretty hectic which means i'm working alot harder and alot longer. this week all phrases/words implying something is positive (words like cool, awesome, dope, bomb, tits, that's the shit!, etc.) has been replaced with the phrase "yeah, i'm gonna need some more of THAT!" some one will be like, "hey yo, check out the girl at table 8...." "... yeah, i'm gonna need some more of THAT!" but at the same time it can be said really sarcastically, like when stephanie bent over and her ass crack was hanging out of her pants (and was really hairy) and one of the guys said "yeaah,... i'm gonna need some more of that" but really sarcastic like. funny stuff.

any way, drifters, yeah, um. i didn't do the numbers i had planned for today. i was doing a drill and was trying for a clip set drifter but set a little too far away from me, so i bailed to whirl... juuuuust a little too late, and kicked my self in the calf really hard. instantly the muscle cramped up and i called it quits and went and streched it out. on the up side, my pdx drifters were much more consistant today (befor the muscle thing), hitting 3/5 which is alot better than 2/7 the other day.

i'm sooo stoked for glass. i'm to do my usual off the top of the head routine, if they have them. i might have a basic idea for my shred 30, but i'll probably wing it after my first 12 or so contacts. i might try to get a solid sick 3 and try to bust that out, but really i'm much more excited to just go and shred and hang out with my wang out.

so very tired.... so... very.......... ti.... re.... d................................ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

okay i've been putting this off for way too long now, so i have finally taken an afternoon and uploaded a bunch of footbag related photos to my .org account. here they are....

Image
Here's me at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In all honesty, there's not alot to see in Pisa other than this and the Dome.

Image
know for a fact that i am not the first footbag player to play here. The French Crew plays here regularly, and can even be seen playing here on the video Sick 03

Image
Right at the very top of the Eiffel Tower i kicked for a little bit, and almost kicked my bag through the grill and over the edge. luckily it bounced back and all was good. You get a great view of the city from up there. Hey, i think i can Maxxx's place from here!

Image
I didn't want to get too close, because he kept doing some walking drills. They have to do these walking dills every few minutes or so to keep their legs from buckling. it's incredible to see, because all of them do it at the same time, with no verbal or visual warning. all at once they start doing some rifle drill then start marching around. I didn't want to get to close and get hit with a rifle butt.

Image
Ales was my tour guide for the few days that i was in Prauge. This is him and i at the train station goofing off just befor i boarded my train to Berlin.

Image
Honza and his family were very kind in letting me stay at their apartment in Prauge while i was visiting. Mr. Weber took the photo.

Image
Here's a photo of French up and coming superstar Arthur. He let me crash at his place when i was back in paris the second time. He's a nice guy, but i don't know why he smells his feet after every session...

Image
Here's Berlin's Max Kerkof doing some press ups before a session. I hear they all lift savage weights befor and after every session and have a strictly regimented training program, but they wouldn't tell me about it. I had to sneak up on them to get this photo. Later at this session we almost got into a brawl with a bunch of football punks. They even went and got a couple of friends to come over and act intimidating. There was alot of shouting, which i didn't understand so i just stood there and looked cool but menacing.

Image
The 3 of us met up at a bar on my last night in prauge. TMS was interviewing Vasek for a paper or something, and i was pretty drunk and forgot to use the flash.

Image
Still drunk, Still no flash. I left the bar nearly an hour befor they did, so i could make it back to where i was staying in good time. I got pretty lost, and ended up getting onto a tram and found vasek sitting on it. It turned out i was on the wrong tram going the wrong direction. Thank god i bumped into him. i later got onto the wrong bus, found out i was on the wrong bus, got on the right bus going the wrong way, had to wait for it to turn around on it's loop and head back the right way, fell asleep and woke up just befor my stop. it took me nearly 4 hours to get there...

Image
Paul let me crash at his place in Berlin when i was there. I popped up behind him and snapped this pic off. I don't think he was too impressed...

Image
Yves Kriel is a bad ass shredder, What keeps the Krusher going? "Doppel Cakes!" i had a bag of these cookies and Yves asked if he could have one. I politely said "Sure, help your self to some". Well i kept going back for one here and there during the day and noticed that i had significantly fewer than i had the last time i checked. I finally caught yves red handed "Helping him self" to my "Doppel Cakes"

Image
Some net players at Footjam 2004.

Image
After a long night of judging, playing and partying, Yves catches some rest on the grass on sunday morning.

Image
Vlad showing off his contact juggling skills on sunday.

Image
Paul Cronjager enjoying some of the fantastic breakfast on sunday morning.

Image
Maxxx, possibly still drunk, downing some coffee on sunday morning at Footjam 2004. I'm impressed he has the stomach to eat any thing!

Image
Eric D'Argent from Lyons chilling and trying to avoid the contact of sunlight on his eyes.

Image
Gricha and Greg from "Rein n'est hacky" footbag club Paris, maxing and relaxing at Footjam 2004.

Image
Here be the freestylers from Footjam 2004, lying around on the grass sunday morning after the big party saturday night.

Image
i was in good company at footjam 2004. Allan Haggett was the surprise guest judge at footjam that year. He's very tall. i had a hell of a time trying to get up to his level. p.s. Allan busts HUGE!!!
