thats pretty tough calling us out like that though, dude. its ok though.. routines are a pretty subjective thing and pretty much you have to go with what you thought looked good sometimes

I am more bitter about it than a bottle of Victoria Bitter!!!1!!!!111!!!one!!!

Actually I just thought it was something that needed to be mentioned but now I want to add why I thought I should have finished above the other person.

His routine was definitly way more choreographed to the music and had really good style. He also had 3 less drops than me.

However I hit a number of 4 adds - some were linked together and I footed a 5 add as well. The other routine had no moves harder than 3 adds and no double dex moves at all.

However most notable (especially considering the drop count - I think mine had like 12 and his had 9) was the fact that my routine went for the correct time of 120 seconds and his routine went for only 80. In my opinion falling 40 seconds short of the correct time is a significant problem.

Anyway I got over that a long time ago and I was still happy to come third - I just thought people would be interested in knowing why I thought it was a mistake to be equal third instead of outright third.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Touch Football :D

We won 13 - 5.

I scored 4 and set up two.

We played really badly and should have won at least 18 - 0.

I hate my team.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't believe how much of a jock I am becoming. Today I am going to do some sprint training with the other good touch player in our team. I don't know why - I'd just like to be faster and it's much easier to run after work than it is to play footbag.

I still need to film a sick 3 and a sick trick. I have some ideas but nothing certain.

We are getting paid more than I calculated earlier but I still don't think we're making enough money and I'm seriously considering not going anywhere for New Years and working instead. This would mean I get free drinks all night at the local pub - but I don't think I'd have many people of my age to drink with - so maybe I won't do anything. That would be very sad and makes me depressed just thinking about it - but I think it would be worth it for my time in Europe. I will celebrate New Years on July 7th instead (7/7/05) because 7s look like 1s a bit and I will be in Poland :D

I don't know what is wrong with me - I seem very angry about everything recently.

I just quit my job - which was a shit job but I was making lots of money and needed it. It's a long story which I don't need to get into but it's all very depressing - I had two big yelling fights today and stormed off. There is plenty of work around anyway so I should be able to get a new job pretty easily.

Ok I will go into it a little - basically I'm doing seasonal farm work where we get paid to pick up crates of tulip bulbs - at the moment we get $3.00 a crate. However the system works on each person keeps count and writes down how many they got. The person tipping the crates also keeps count and hopefully the two tallys should be the same. However they are not and this means that we are going to get paid $2.40 instead of $3.00 - not just for what we're doing now - but for all the ones we have done in the last fortnight. This basically means that I am going to lose $300 that I thought I had earnt. I know for a fact that my tally is correct. I also work as hard as I can and usually pick 20 crates or so more than other people - ie nearly double. I don't take breaks - I work the whole time straight.

Anyway there are lots of other things and I am really pissed off about it.

I learnt three valuable lessons today :P

1. When making a 14 panel footbag - don't use panels as small as you would for a 32 - it will end up half the size... but so cute ;)

2. When cutting through plastic with a knife - don't cut it up against a finger or you will cut the finger

3. If you put a toasted cheese sandwhich on top of another - the cheese will stick to the bottom. :x

So good not to have to get up at 4:30 am. I don't think you really appreciate how good it feels to get up later until you've been doing it for 4 and a bit weeks.

Lesson number four - leaving the grill on after grilling cheese will eventually catch fire and you will get in lots of trouble (I have like tomorrow to clean it up :( and try and make it look like nothing happend - that's if the whole stove isn't completely fucked :(

It gets worse :(

So I saw that the grill was on fire and eventually managed to put it out. The whole house was full of smoke. I open the windows and go outside for a while. I come back in and go on the computer. I go back into the kitchen and the grill is making a rushing kind of sound - I sniff and can only smell burnt plastic really strong! I think shit it could be gas leak and go outside and turn the gas off. The grill stops making a noise.

I think hmm - this isn't good - so I call the local fire brigade (not the emergancey number) and tell them exactly what's happened. I make it pretty clear that everything is probably ok now - but better safe than sorry...

I sit down and watch some tv. I hear sirens... A fire truck and a police car - both with lights flashing and sirens going pull up infront of the house. Then another car with a fireman in it arrives. So all up we have 6 volunteer fire fighters - who stand around telling me I was stupid blah blah blah. It turns out there is no valve on the stove gas line - this means I have no gas at all - so I can't cook any food and I can't have a warm shower.

There was one good thing that came out of it - while looking for the valve - I found my Hermey footbag - that I lost a few weeks ago and was too embarressed to mention - it's a fucking awesome bag and almost broken in too - so maybe the whole thing was worth it ;)

So then I went off to touch football training for the rep team. I trained pretty badly to begin with - found it hard to focus but got better.

I then got a lift home with my touch football coach. We had to stop to pick up a table tennis table from K-Mart. From when we arrived it took us two hours and 20 minutes before we got the table.

I am glad there is beer in the fridge, as well as lots of wine and spirits in the house and a little bit of herbs because this day is pretty fucking shit!

Actually there was one good thing - I hit alpha fury while I was warming up for touch training. It actually feels easier than normal fury - you get the set out quicker. I haven't tried flipside yet.

So the big postives of the day were finding the Hermey bag and hitting alpha fury.

The negatives were destroying the stove, nearly burning down the house, not being able to cook any food, not being able to have a warm shower and having to wait 140 minutes at K-Mart.

At least tomorrow will be better. :P

Hmm - well as predicted Christmas was pretty shit. Nowhere to play footbag, no girls, nobody who liked my music. I basically spent most of the time running on the beach or getting drunk - sometimes both at once :P

I did get a fucking awesome CD of Amon Tobin's Melbourne concert - so some live DJ action which is cool.

Other than that I got shit and had a shit time. The particular thing that really pissed me off was the autobiography of Sean Astin (or whatever his name is) from his "journey" filming lord of the rings (the guy who played Sam). While Lord of The Rings is one of my favourite books - I fucking hate the movies - and saw them as just blatent and successful attempts at exploiting the story. Anyway I don't want to write too much about that - just I think the idea of a biography about being part of the process is a fucking ridiculous idea and another fucking money grab. Anyway I started to read the book anyway and found the opening paragraph way too arrogant and full of wank so have given up and will burn the book when I get home.

I haven't had a chance to really play at all. I did some nice demos at a party the other day - but it was a shit party. I hit some cool stuff anyway. The next day I woke up at about 8 am and everybody else was in bed so I went and played footbag outside for a while. I was using a newish bag so mainly just did consecutive kicking (also had a minor hangover) - I did fool around a little and tried some funky moves. I hit fairy symp swirling same side symple reverse swirl - which was definitly cool. Also footed an awesome toe>toe 7 add (no x dex either) - actually it's a bit cheap and I'm sure it's been hit before but cool none the less (no rakes either!)

Um that's about it - hopefully it will be sunny soon and I'll be able to play some decent footbag - there is a big festival going on at the moment so hopefully I'll be able to do some busking or something.

Fucking awesome day!!

There is this big festival going on called "taste of Tasmania" - I went down and met up with a friend who does street performing stuff. I played some footbag - mainly just in a circle doing silly stuff. I definitly impressed lots of people which was cool.

Then through this street performing friend I managed to hook up with some gigs at a midnight theater doing footbag. I'm not sure how much I'm getting - probably like $100 per thing - which is awesome since there is one or two every day until Sunday. I did a routine to a cool song that I think will be my semi final song for the Aus champs (can't say what it is) - and the crowd fucking loved it!! - I came on stage - then made a big thing of taking off my shorts and shirt (I just did the demo in my short shorts). It went ok - probably about 5 drops - which is lots but they loved it. Everything I dropped I hit later on in the routine - so my only problem was focus. The only dissapoint was the fact that I don't know the song well enough and didn't hit my finale - ripwalk>blur>smear>dimwalk>ps whirl - which is a really easy combo for me but the music ran out before I got a chance - hopefully next time I'll stick it.

There were some crazy other acts going on - juggling and all sorts of stuff. Also really cheap beer for performers :D :D. I also got some great tips for performing and I think the next routine I write after Aus champs will be aimed completely at the crowd and not at other footbaggers.

Um there is lots more to say I think but I'm tired (it's 2:15 am) and drunk and need some rest. It was awesome and I'll be doing lots more.

As footbaggers - rather than complaining about the lack of recognition for the sport - we need to be exploiting that. If you can do a two minute routine with under ten drops you should be street performing and making shitloads of money - people love it. You don't need to be very good - I hit hardly any 4 adds or up in my routine I did tonight - they were barfly, pdx whirl, pdx torque, ripwalk, blur, dimwalk and maybe sidewalk (I forget) - 2 minutes was up way to fast - I was still building up the difficulty to the climax and suddenly the music was over.

If people know nothing about footbag lets exploit them for their money - they will think it is incredible if you just hit toe stall>mirage>op toe>clipper>ducking clipper>legover>clipper>whirl>toe>toe>atw>pixie>pixie etc - that difficulty is more than enough to impress any non footbagger.

I would keep writing but drunken posts can be annoying to read.

Peace and hope to anybody around the Indian Ocean region - I cried for you today.

Well done Jeremy.
You'll own that routine of yours once you know the music by heart (its beats / vuts / breaks / length / speed /sections etc..)
A player of your calibre should be aiming at a dropless ESPECIALLY when performing (for footbaggers or non-footbaggers alike).

Yes milk thos toe stall and those two adds. Do a coupleof shuffling combos but saty easy on them (they look exactly the same to anyone who doesn't know footbag). Stick to things the public can understand.

Congrats all the same, hope you manage to save some of that cash up for your trip to Europe!

Yeah thanks Max.

I'm definitly aiming for dropless - and I've been doing demos and stuff for a long time now - so I know the crowd appreciates not dropping more than hard moves - I'm sorry if my post was a little confusing - I was just trying to convince everybody else out there to try and do as many demos as you can all the time and learn to street perform or something.

My Aus Champs routine for the finals is completely choreorgraphed - but my semi final one isn't because I don't want to learn two routines. I have chosen a song I play really well to though - and thats what I did the show last night to. Generally when I practice once I've done some other warm up drills I put this song on and tiltless shred to it - building up the difficulty until it's guiltless and I drop it - so I don't get to the end of the song very often - I know the first minute really well, the next 30 seconds ok and the last 30 is a bit vague. But today I wrote it out so I know where my cues are and stuff - so tonights show should be better :D

me - excited :D

Oh and tonight there will be free beer for the performers too - donated by Cascade I think - which makes some of the best beer in Australia! :D :D

Yeah as predicted tonight was fucking amazing!! The crowd was so good - they clapped everything. I got a good chance to see the other acts too and they were incredible. It's cool - all the other people are blowen away by me - and I'm just as blown away by them.

The best act is definitly this girl who does trapeze. She's a a young single mom making her living by traveling the world doing her act, and the stuff she does is so awesome - breath taking! I think I'm in love... :P.

My performance went well. I think double around the world is the best move in footbag. Seriously. You do some easy shit, you pause - look at the crowd - hit the move - they fucking love it. Also ducking and spinning stuff is great too.

I've changed the way I do it a little now - I basically do tiltless shred a bit - a few party tricks and big pauses and then impressive looking single tricks.

It's so much fun - it's incredible. I would love to make a more thought out performance and take it up as a career.

I think I have four more performances to go - so I will earn about $600 for 12 minutes of work - plus having such an incredible time as well.

Footbag rocks :D (and so does the trapeze girl!!)

Oh there are two people performing from Montreal as well! I don't know their full names so I won't bother but one guy does skateboard and lighter tricks and the other guy does this awesome hunchback routine with a ping pong ball and some balloons. Maybe the Montreal people have seen them before.

Anyway wow! :D (especially Minka - the trapeze girl - I wish I could show you)

The Trapeze girls name is Theika - I definitly have the biggest crush on her. It is a shame she is 33 - although we all agreed she looks like she is only 24 or 25. I spent like 3 hours last night talking to her and shared a joint too :D. Attention New Zealand people - she is coming down there for the big festival that is part of the New Zealand Champs. I now really regret not going but look out for her - I don't think you will see many street performing trapeze acts!

Also I talked to Brent a little last night - the skateboard and lighter tricks guy from Montreal - and he's been to the Tam Tam Jam and has seen all the footbaggers playing there - we agreed that they rock! I don't know if you guys have seen his performances or not but they are pretty cool. Small world :P

Um last night was crazy. We had this huge feast - free food from all the stalls for performers - it was so sweet! - Seriously we had so much food that with 20 of us there or something we couldn't make even an impact on it - it was crazy.

I got home last night at about 3 or 4 and didn't go to sleep until 6 - so almost did an all nighter. It's pretty awesome going to a party where everybody is a comedian. I think last night ranks as my best new years eve. hmm - big call but the present is always better than the past. Hmm that's a big call too.

Getting Chilli in my eye really did suck though. I'm glad it's out.

I really want to have a hardcore kick sometime soon - I haven't had a chance at all to just shred hard for anytime yet. I probably can't. Yesterday I was doing some stupid drills. I say stupid because really I didn't need to work on them at all. The stupidest was dlo>smear repeat - all on strong side. I modified it later to be both sided - but like that combo is so easy for me - I can do it until I run out of energy basically and considering all the things I suck at - I could have definitly spent my time better.

I think my Footbag New Years Resolutions are to learn to juggle - actually I can a little - but better (I'm talking two footbags on foot here) - actually I want to learn by the day after tomorrow so I can do it in the last performance. And learn to get really good at ducking and diving stuff. I am in a ridiculous situation at the moment where I can hit ducking superfly but I can't hit 10 contacts of diving clip>ducking clip. Similar with my spins.

I guess this post has been a bit of a ramble. I think I'm getting pretty good at rambling about random shit in my blog. I don't think anybody reads it anyway so I will now write about all my embarressing diseases...

Just kidding - I have no diseases :P - (well none I'm posting on the internet ;))

Maybe I am still a little drunk from last night - It's only 6 hours since I went to sleep. I started drinking at 11 - so only 13 hours ago. I had 3 pilsner urquell, then 3 cascade draught, then at least 4 cascade Pale Ale - I lose count around there - so it could be 5 or six :P - so a beer count minimum of 10. Each beer is about 1.4 standard drinks - so that's 14 standard drinks min in the last 13 hours - I think there is a pretty good chance I still have alcohol in me. Theika taught me this cool way of opening screw top bottles with your fore arm. If I was a strong as her I could do it easily :P - it works well if you have stuff on your hands apparantly.

Well sitting hear rambling on about stuff won't do much good - I think I'm going to go kick a footbag around or sleep - both sound good

Peace and happy new year!

Love you all

Thanks guys - it's really is good to know that people actually read this - even if Anssi commented on my diseases and I couldn't understand Dan's post at all :P

So I've done two more performances I think - each one has been better than last.

Last night was the finale night - so I did a longer routine - 4 minutes 39 I think. Awesome song - the theme from the original "Shaft" movie. Unfortuantly I completely forgot to hit the move - but I hit some other really cool stuff and played up to the crowd lots. It was a great crowd and they really loved it.

Tonight I am doing a short street show as part of a group show (last street show of the festival) - and all funds are going to the Indian Ocean Tsunami appeal. I'm going to try my Australian Championships final routine - so I'm expecting a few drops - but I want a chance to try it out infront of a crowd.

It's funny - I had a solid shred the day before yesterday and a short one yesterday as well and I've started throwing in a few moves that I used to never hit. I'm not talking about any really hard moves - stuff like stepping illusion, pixie ss clipper and stepping ss clipper. - It's just funny that for no reason I can think of - I'm hitting those moves without thinking about it. Like there are a lot of moves I have to consciously think of before I'll hit them - pdx illusion is a great example of this - other moves I hit completely subconsciously - I think this much better.

Oh I have learnt to juggle - I think that was my new years resolution - I juggled a little last night - well only 5 contacts - but I was pretty estatic about it.

I have also found the best beer in the world - Cascade Summer Blonde. Not sure if it's available anywhere outside of Tasmania or not - but fucking amazing.

Peace

Natty Ice=Natural Ice=Cheap beer with the consistancy and taste of piss. Basically just a beer to get you drunk without a lot of money. If I had a job and cared about the taste of beer I would probably drink something nicer... But alas I'm young and fucked. I was also drunk when I made that post.

But no, I read your blog pretty religiously (No pun intended *see the title*), keep it up.

Just thought I'd make a quick post to say that last night went awesome.

I hit 4 fives in my routine (it was an improvised routine - although I know the music well) - blurry whirl, blurriest, ps whirl, pdx torque).

We raised $2300 in notes and don't know the coin tally yet. Will keep you posted!

Insanity. Not footbag related but I thought I'd post it anyway.

My mum is a humanities teacher at a local high school. She has been teaching for a while now. Obviously there are students she doesn't get on well for whatever reason - I'm sure everybody have teachers they don't like. Obviously the best reaction is to try and behave in a mature manner around those teachers and work hard - that's basically what I did and I never had any serious problems with teachers. However for lots of kids I know they don't grow up as quickly as I did and they end up doing stupid things.

In the same street we live in are two girls who my mum taught. I don't know their side of the story but from all accounts they were silly little girls who didn't want to be in school at all. Anyway it's safe to say that they didn't get on well with my Mum. About a year ago they had a party or something and two boys who were friends of theirs rocked our roof. No damage was done but my step dad called the police and got a cop to come around and scare the kids. It worked (I played in a cricket team for a while made up almost completely of police including a guy who was the top policeman in the state - so we have a good relationship with police - even though politically I have a lot of problems with them - I like all the police I have met outside their job :P).

Anyway since then as far as I know there has been no contact with this family down the street. Then on new years eve - the father of the girl and some of his friends assulted my step dad and tried to throw him in a river - they then followed him home and punched a hole through the front door.

Of course I was away for all this time - but I must say it is freaky to come home and find that the front door has a hole in it and lots of blood (from where the guy cut himself - it's actually hard to punch through stain glass.

It's a little scary too - but the guy in question is being charged with serious assult, criminal damage and tresspass - and there is a moderate chance he'll be sent to jail!

It's puts a lot of pressure on my morals - because ideally I am opposed to jail - but of course I'm opposed to criminals being let go too - so I think jail is a better option than dropping the charges. I've always said that I think people who commit crimes do so for a reason and that demonising them achieves nothing - but you need to address the problem instead. I still feel like that - which is good I think - I think this guy has some serious problems - probably ignorance or stupidity are the main ones but who knows - I don't think I've ever spoken to him - except maybe a "g'day" or something while walking past him.

I just can't understand how you could do something so serious over a matter of either the wife of the person not liking your child or a policeman coming around and telling off some kids for throwing rocks on your house. Like those aren't things I can imagine punching somebody over. Especially when the whole school thing happened about 3 years ago and the kids have now finished school. It just seems so ridiculous.

I remember in a arguement a while back about gun laws - that Nathen O. mentioned that since Australia implemented our harsher gun laws assault rates have risen dramatically. Throwing my step dad over a 20 meter bridge into ice cold water in the middle of the night would have almost certainly killed him with his heart - I am so glad we do have the gun laws we do have or I am sure it would have been much more serious.

Ok anyway some other stuff - I went to the movies last night with my brother, a close friend and his girlfriend. His girlfriend is a girl I went to school with for 5 years - she's really cool. Anyway I found out she has some serious heart problems - which is scary and sucks. Then I got a lift home with her today from my brothers place and halfway on the trip she got a call to let her know that a Finnish exchange student who is staying with her's grandmother just died suddenly - and apparantly the grandmother was the gaurdian of this girl - so it was pretty tragic. The other person in the car was her cousin who works in China and had some cool stories. She works as an english teacher and has adopted two chinese girls as well - and it all sounded really cool. Oh she was a Christian too - and works at a christian missionary school in China. I'm glad I'm not very vocal about my opinions on issues when I meet new people - because she asked what things worry Laura and I - and I almost said something that I think lots of Christians would find fairly offensive (about the growing relationship between politics and religion and the death of secularity) - but luckily I held my tongue and went for more broad comments about politics in general. (I didn't know she was a Christian at that time). Anyway it's very sad about the Finnish girl's grandmother.

Oh I got a Patris bag today - actually it probably arrived a while ago but I got home today - which is really cool. It's an awesome design - not a soccer design - hard to explain - I'll take some photos later. It's slightly lighter than what I'm used to but it feels great - the stitching is really pro as well - one of the best stitched bags I think I've seen. It's really good.

Also my material finally arrived!! :D :D
So I'm going to spend the next few days making bags. I got so much - um 6 1/4 yards - so I will be in material for ages! (I wasn't quite sure how much a yard was or how long 40 inches (or whatever the length is) - although I had a rough idea - I underestimated so that I would definitly have enough.

So these are the bags I have to make:

James Hermey
Patris
Ryan Thomass
Oliver Adams
2 more bags for testing
and then I'll be able to make bags for people! - exciting!!

Oh one more thing - I have started reading "The Great Shark Hunt" - by Hunter S Thompson - a collection of essays he wrote in the 70s - including the essays that "Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas" are based on. Fucking insanity!! - Just like the start of this post - he is one crazy person. Seriously - the movie doesn't do him justice at all.

Anyway Peace and Love

Jeremy

Oh yeah and the coins never got counted - but the other performers who are used to feeling lots of coins etc estimate that we raised $3500 - which is an awesome achievement and it feels so good to have done something for the aid effort. I was also on TV on three different channels yesterday and in the local paper: "The Mercury" - so that was cool too!
