I am about to snap

Post by bocker »

What is the proper stance for rookies like me?

I have been kicking quite a while now but I have been going no where with it. I cant even do a proper inside kick with out it going to one side or smacking me in my face. Some days i kick the footbag lots of time, other days I cant. I seen all the videos of basic kicks and tricks but it don't help.

HOW THE HELL DID YALL PROS OUT THERE STAY CLAM WITHOUT SNAPING IN YOUR ROOKIE STAGE.

O and one last question. Should i been my knees when I hack?

Footbag

anyways, it takes time to develop the proper posture in footbag. Some times, you WILL have a good day. other times, you won't if you're a newbie, be patient. I'm still a developing newbie and my posure's improved over the last two months. Wait a while and school a lot. Eventually, your posture, kicks and stalls will improve more than you can imagine right now.

I remember being frustrated the first few times I tried kicking. I had a big, full guatamalen crocheted footbag, and it would bounce all over, and it was too big and heavy, and I couldn't control it at all. I loved it to death, of course, until it was thrown into the gym rafters a few days later by Nick from my Cross Country running team...

anyway, you're probably using a crap bag and crap shoes (no offense :D ) so get yourself a Mr Sandbag from freedomfootbags.com and some adidas rod laver shoes from www.worldfootbag.com, www.ebay.com, or anywhere else you like. Make sure they're mesh, not leather. You can find modification tutorials in the bags and equipment subforum once you've got your lavers.

anyway, once you've got some equipment that will allow you to learn, start by doing inside kicks back and forth, then toe flick kicks, outside kicks, and any other kicks you want to do. Just get it so you can control the footbag. Then move on to toe stalls and inside stalls and stuff... read these forums a lot. You'll figure out where to go. Watch videos, ask questions, read a lot. just get your kicks and hang out on modified for now, that's a good start.

HOLY CRAP! Sneakers are only the next most important thing next to the bag itself. By buying the proper kicks, one is able to bust tricks with ease, school new adds and make better string....?

anyways, a pair of lavers are a great investment. There are OTHER shoes out there that are similar to lavers but just get the lavers. other shoes most poeple at modified would reccomend:

Reebok G-Unit G6
Adidas Climacool Response Running Trainer
New Balance CT520 or CT300.

Welcome to modified. Happy Kicking!

Jericho, i think the best climacools are Climacool 1 and Climacool 2's and the response is frowned upon in the domain of footbag.

That is the model I just bought.

Tom is a maniac. Those toes curl up and they are concave, and Tom modded his shoes to high hell

if you want minimal mods on a climacool shoe, get 1's or 2's

but if your Tom Mosher you can get whatever shoes you want. :P

I've seen Tom's shoes, he has 2 pairs of climas, and both looked very nice to shred in. There was nothing wrong with his toes, and he didn't do that much modding to them.

Climacool 1's require the least modding. And chances are if you try to pick up some Responses you won't be able to find the right model.

Also, I didn't modify my Responses thaaaat much!

I still hold firm that New Balance CT520's are the easiest shoe to get into shred with.

Lavers are good too until you start jumping at all.

Yeah i agree with the jumping thing. Climas have wayyyyyyyyy more spring then lavers but unfortunatly climas wernt metn for me and sprained my ankles. Allas ist better now but ide go with lavers to get started then see if youd like anything different.

I can definatly say I'm not a "newbie" anymore, but I still have problems with my stance and style. Sometimes it seems like i bounce uncontrollably, sometimes it seems like my shoes are 5 times heavier.

It just takes time and muscle memory. Don't think about it too much and you'll probably be better off. The moment I start thinking I'm "bouncing" too much or "my shoes feel heavy" is when I start getting worse.

One thing to note is the fact that it's certainly easier when you're with other friends who are either getting into footbag or are already good enough at it that they can teach you. Learning by yourself is pretty much when it's easiest to 'snap,' as you called it, though I'd consider it just losing interest and quitting (which is just as bad). There have been a few huge gaps in my game where I'd lose interest because I wasn't really progressing and the fact that I hack alone meant that there was no one saying, "you can't quit man! let's have another sesh tomorrow!" The best advice i can give for staying on fire about the game would be involving yourself in the community here and watching all of the footbag media you can get your hands on.

Just be aware that it's something that's going to take a long time to get good at. If you love the sport, then you won't notice the time. If the time is the only thing you think about then maybe shred isn't for you. Monsterhack.com and flipsider.com both have a lot of single-trick videos which I found very helpful in getting started. You asked when to bend your knees; those clips will show you what the move looks like when performed correctly and you can attempt to copy that style until you find your rythym.

Keep shreddin' bro! Peace.

HAH! best joke Ive heard in years!

You can call the phone number of the people that sell the videos online and have them send you a video,

Are you referring to formal videos or just any footage of footbag?

There is a whole Videos section on this message board and tons of videos on other websites.
