Help - English Test - Deadline today
Hi I need your help!
I have to email my film summary to my English teacher today - that means I got 3 hours left.
Maybe anyone can read through the text and tell me the mistakes. For a native speaker like you that should not take too much time.
The mentioned film is What women want (2000).
Moreover it would be nice if you can show me my faults so i can decide which grammar chapter I will learn next.
Thanks for your time and help
So enough said here is the text:

Film discussion: “What women want” (2000)
“Oh no!” was my first thought after reading the title of our test-film “What women want”. Actually I do not like to view such chick-flicks.
First of all I will describe the story of the film, after that I will deal with the actors and the mark the film left to me.
Nick Marshall ( Mel Gibson ) works in an ad agency. His new boss Darcy MacGuire ( Helen Hunt ) was hired to improve the relation between company’s goods and female customers. For a chauvinistic guy like NM this situation was a big problem. Due to his character he is surrounded by tons of conflicts with females. This includes his daughter Alex ( Ashley Johnson), too, who is part of a sub plot.
After NM got electrocuted in his bath tub, he obtained the ability to read women’s minds.
With this special skill, he tries to exploit women and solve his conflicts as well.
The main plot contains the story of DMG and NM. There are several sub-plots, one acted of the relationship between NM and his daughter Alex one other from NM and his mistress Lola ( Marisa Tomei). Nick Marshall tried to get rid off Darcy McGuire by stealing her ideas. Later on he discovers his love for Darcy and try to get a relation to her. They work both for a Nike – project and their hearts find together.
Mel Gibson fits his role really well. He is one of those action heroes, which can be humorous and credible at the same time. Helen Hunt is also a suitable cast. She has got a professional appearance as a career- hunting woman, but is still very sensitive. Marisa Tomei brings a lot of sex appeal into this comedy. Ashley Johnson is able to play a very ordinary daughter.
Now I will continue to analyse the film. On the one hand the comedy contains a lot of proper aspects. Of course the best one is the idea itself. “What women want” respectively think is the most hidden secret for us men. This situation caught my attention immediately. The story got some nice laughs, for example a cross-dressed Mel Gibson. Moreover there are even sub- plots in the screenplay, which is not very common for comedies. I do not know how realistic the thoughts of the relevant women are, but it is a great pleasure to follow them. Due to the variety of different roles and their thoughts, the film had not much chance getting boring. On the other hand there are lots of negative contents as well.
This film justifies its genre as a comedy because it was very funny and had a happy end. For me this two attitudes are no duty to define a comedy, but I guess somebody tried to fit both definitions. There were several flaws in the plot, which support my disliking for comedies in comparison to other genres like action, fantasy or science- fiction. Some small inappropriate things lead to grave mistakes in the main plot. I want to demonstrate this by an example. NM uses the word babe at the beginning of the film as something special, not as casual it should look like. Thus he is not the bad guy at all( of course there are other things ), so getting him to a conversion is quite difficult- only a bad guy can transform in a nice guy.
Second the plot is kind of predictable, that’s nothing special for comedies, but it could be done much better. Third there are some scenes, which are kind of overdone a little like NM’s dance on the pellets before landing in his tub.
The sub-plots which brought lots of variety to this movie cost much time as too, so this time could be used more effective by involving them in the main plot too. For example, Lola, her appearance was really sexy, but she it didn’t affect the main-plot nor a changing in NM’s personality.
According to the conversion of NM – is there any? Did the author want a conversion ? I guess, it is already enough that such a question have to be asked, to point out that there is something wrong with the main-plot.
NM is a chauvinistic “man’s man”, then he was in the know after his electrocution and used his new ability to exploit women more efficiently.
He tried to improve his relationship to his daughter, but let her alone in his apartment after her trauma at prom. It was very surprising that DMG believed NM’s Story to get the ideas out of her mind. Moreover it is not very realistic that DMG got fired after one project, which was very successful for the company.
Now I come to the end. The ending was the most disliking part for me. I guess that somebody tried to wrap up the whole film up as fast as possible. It looks like the author try to implement a happy end. Why he has done this will keep a secret to me.
Summing up, I want to mention a few things in general. The idea was incredible good, the crew was well casted, screenplay was not that good because it was not clear if a conversion of NM should happen or not. The sub- plots were nice but not important.
The film was a good choice to pick as a test film, because you were able to follow the plot without the need to understand every word. The worth of the film is not very high, because there is no real message in it. Moreover there is a lack of innovative gags, and most of them are based on major clichés.
