The Youngens!!!!

wow, i don't know what to say other than i am very very excited!!! have you noticed the number of younger players these days? this is awesome! there are so many people in their mid teens playing now. maybe i haven't noticed up untill now, but it feels like just a year ago the average age of the people on the forum was higher.
the youngens are going to push this sport, especially if they stick with it. by the time some of them are 18 they are going to have been freestyling for 4 years already, some for ten. Anthony Suderman is only 8!!!! this is aweosme! starting at a younger age can only help the sport prgress technically, and also help it spread to younger and younger people. with more and more years of kicking under your belt you are gonna be so ill! i wish i had found freestyle when in was 8!!!

at Chilly, I was playing with this 16 year old kid named Will Digges from Saratoga, NY. After playing for six months, he has beautiful, clean pixies, whirls, and atomics, and long strings based on those. It was really great seeing a talented new player whose style is so clean from NY. I'll definitely be getting together with those Saratoga kids.

Damn. Me too. For some reason, footbag didn't click for me until last year. That really pisses me off when you find somehting you love and you end up later finding out you had so many opportunities to start earlier but you were an idiot and turned it down....I wish I'd started earlier. Word.

Anthony Suderman going to be really good if he sticks with it. He has Johnny teaching him and all that 8 year old hyper-ness.

I, too wish that I found the sport sonner. I could be shredding mad right now if I was 10 when I found it. I could have 5 1/2 years under my belt than 5 ish months.

Yeah. Just imagine how good we would all be if we started before or while we WERE 10. We would have been AT LEAST tiltless by the time we entered middle school or whatever you guys call it there....

Yeh the great thing about younger people (well ok not really that much younger then me I just turned 17...) is that it means the sport probably won't die or start to wind down anytime soon... and thats a reasuring thought to me... I know I will never be that great at footbag, but if the sport continues then that means when I'm an old millionaire i can travel around the world going to footbag tournaments

HOLY FUCK 8 !!?!??!?!?!! i MUST see a video, where is he from? i never heard of any one under 13 kicking, and in my belive i belive that the body is not develpoed enogh to withstand the beating we freestyles give are legs. if a 8 year old is kicking buy the time he is my age he could have problems from developing so much musle befor his body could handle it, or something just clinicly wrong.

but if not thats WAY COOL i always they are gonna be SOOOO Good!!!

Yea I'm glad to mentioned Joe is 14, that always amazes me especially after the Mobius vid. Are you still 14 though Joe?

Me and Sam Potter (Nagasake) were talking about this the other night. I brought up Lauri hitting Ripstein at what 13?

In the Seattle area alone we have me, Sam, and Dakota (HateFreeFreestyler is his Mod. name I think) all around 14/15 years of age and I think all three of us have a good deal of potential.

Seems to me though that in the US we have a tendancy to look at our older generation of players to really dominate at shows and such, whereas Europe has a much more thriving scene amongst the younger generation.

I'm thirteen, and i started playing at twelve. Actually, i had to take a couple months off because of my osgood schlatters. It sucks.

Im 14, turning 15 on the 19th of June. I've just returned from a 4 month break.

In Philly there were sooo many shredders that were totally young and had been playing for only a handful of months but could shred hard, it was awesome!

I loved getting schooled by kids half my age!

I also got s-Kulacz-ed! hahaha

Seattle's starting to represent! Dakota will be crazy good if he keeps at it! He's 13 right now, and is starting to grasp fundamentals quickly. Dan Fearey's getting good really fast, too. He developed a solid tiltless in about two months or so, it seems, maybe less. As for myself, I'm not sure if I had the same rate of progression as these guys, but people seem to think I'll do well, so I'll go with that.

I don't think youth is as important as playing time and innate skill, though. James Erickson has my huge respect for being as good as he is in the time he's been playing. Props.

Well... I would say that I developed "strong" tiltless maybe like a month ago, that was about how long ago the session that Miles came to wasn't it where I more or less dropped my toes from my game? But really I'd only now consider myself truely strong tiltless, as I'm 100% confident in all my basic tricks (ATW, Mirage, Legover, Pickup) both sides along with BOS and some far legovers, far pickups ect...

I'm really just changing topics like no one business today. Anyways...

As far as your progression goes, your discipline is going to pay off big I think.

In regards to the Eugene Scene, it seems like Nate and James are seriously holding it down. Props.

Also, Sam, what exactly do you mean by "innate skill"? Does such a thing really exist to the point where it is more important than starting as early as possible?

I always think of innate skill as the fact that no matter how much I practiced sprinting say, I would never be as fast as the fastest runners in the world. No matter how hard I trained I just can't run that fast... a lot of it has to do with if you were born with fast or slow reflex muscles. Fast reflex being more for sprinting, jumping, and footbag probably, and slow reflex muscles being indurance... I am not sure how much it matters in footbag though, I'm no expert on it.

By innate skill I mean that when Vasek started playing at Dakota's age, he had mirage, osis, and clipper or something like that in a few days, I believe. There are players who have started later and have had a faster than normal rate of progression. It can supercede age.
