David, I remember when you first started posting here and I was already a seasoned player. Despite never having played with you, I can confidently say you have far surpassed my skills. Wow.

Happens. Doesn't matter. We're still reading it. The main thing isn't the blog, its the fact that you're stoked enough about footbag to have a blog, and you're good enough to post good stuff in there.
david wrote: heres a CP recap:

1) jorden is good
2) i lost to him by like 3 points in shred 30 for 3rd place
3) i played decent the first day, but weak the 2nd
4) i like felix's style
5) cheebs going dropless was sick
6) props to alex, pat, and justin for busting in inter shred 30
7) good venue, lucky weather. props to josh for making the jam.

first off, blurry drifter to ripstein is awesome. thats the combo that stood out for me, weird how people mentioned other combos over it. But I guess we're all impressed by different things. Some reactions to your list.

1. Yep.
2. Props on 3rd place!
4. Style is so subjective. Felix is one of my top two or three favorite styles in the game.

Sounds like CP was fun. I strongly considered just showing up to it randomly, but NZ sounded warmer. 8)

Oh, and who cares about making BAP. Seriously. I'm stoked that David is playing super well, but who honestly cares what 60 random dudes think of your game?

Hey now. I'm plenty stoked about footbag. Some of us just don't feel like logging in here to update whenever something cool happens. Personally, I prefer to just brag to my few friends on AIM.

wow guys, thanks for the comments.

i got 4th btw ken, jorden was 3rd.

today i got out of school early because of icing, but really it just looks more like rain. hopefully it will all freeze tonight and then tommorow ill have off and be able to shred all day. lats night i kicked for 3 hours. i did a klot of non-clavens stuff, which i think is good becuause i think i need some uniqueness and more styly stuff. right now im basically just a shuffle machine, and i think doing unique surfaces/styly links is a lot better. anyway, the session went alright, but it was a lot of "close" stuff, not much was actually hit. i think the coolest thing was drift>pdx. drift>drift>pdx. drift>drift>pdx. drift>pdx. drift>drift>pdx. drift>osis>string. it was good becuase at CP my drifters were sucking (except for my blurry ones). so im glad it finally came back. i was close to some royales, and just did some other cool tricks. spinning osis>pdx. egg is probably one of the coolest combos EVER. i hit vortex>symp whirl too, thats styly.

about bap next year, i dont know. my parents are being kinda wack about finland and stuff, so i dont think ill go there, and if you meant the year after that, then idk where it will be. i think right now im too manufactured and run of the mill. thanks for the comment though.

today in school i had study hall which is so stupid. im on block scheduling so i only have 4 blocks a day, but they are like 1.5 hours each. so basically i had 1.5 hours to do whatever i wanted today. so i got out my cd player and listening to a lot of music and just thought about good routine songs, and good songs for vids whenever im filmed next. it was pretty fun, and i just sat with soem kids and they were all talking about stupid stuff so i just kinda chilled to my music. i was thinking about taking up stitching and doing it in study hall, but i doubt id be able to bring needles to school. eek!

so today i got out of schoole early because of the icing of the roads or whatever. i think ill kick alot tonight. i want to hit outside set mobius. isnt that cool? i think it is. im also really trying to figure out whirr. if anyone reading this has tips give me them please. i was trying it in front of laroche (the unofficial whirr master), and he said they looked good, but i get the symp set, and then start rotating the 2nd dex and im just like, not fast enough or something. perhaps i have to get the motion really tight? and im not really sure when to jump back into the delay. i think whirr is one of the coolest tricks. and i almost hit symp whirling far legover, which is kinda cool.

i also skooled a lot of spins, becuase i like lost that when i was sick. it seems like now my shuffle game is insane, but everything else blows. so last night i did like, 10 vortex's each side, and all these spinning drills, and just lots of stuff to hone in on the probelsm. i hit 12 spinning clippers in a row strong, and i think like 8 weak. not exceptional, but not shitting. oh, and spinning osis>pdx. drifter>pdx. dlo, which is good on the hips and balance.

hm, im on a role writing so lets talk about chilly philly. i wasnt aloud to go new years eve becuase my parents didnt want me too so i was pretty pissed abotu that. so i went new years day and got there around 11. i then procedded to go up to chris's room, and yax and jon werthere. it was good to see yax again. i always think that people wont remember me but they do, and then i feel dumb saying "im dave clavens". they might take that as me thinking im some good kid just trying to say my name or something? whatever, its cool. so then alex finally woke up and i hooked up with him, josh, felix, ales, matt cross, tom mosher, and aric. we went to some cereal bar, but i wasnt hungry at all so i hacked outside with matt and tom and aric. matt hit atomic flapper, thats phat. tom's climas were really cool. nothing crazy went down cuz we were all in pants, but it felt good to mess around. back to then hotel.

we got back and then i met joe kulacz. he is a cool kid. he looks a lot like me. we then all decided to go find a spot to play so we went across to these volley ball courts, but it was windy as shit. anyway, we started just messing around in pants, and soon it was me, joe, and yax playing in pants. yax says he doesnt hack much, so it was just cool messing around. i hit matador in pants and and some cool guiltless strings. it was a good way to get the car jitters out. before i knew it i was in shorts and playing with joe and yax. we were all in shred gear and yax was busting that signature toe shuffle. joe got tired after a while and it was me and yax, one on one. for some reason a lot of my tricks were working. i was hitting blurry whirls all over, lots of solid shuffle, and yax seemed impressed which was cool. i had whirlwind>whirlwind on my foot, good stuff. yax stopped playing then, and jorden was warming up so i kept playing with him. i think it was then that i hit sumo>fusion? idk, i was just doing lines and stuff, lots of ps whirls and stuff. then i told myself "dave, your going to die" so i stopped. i hate it at tournies cuz i want to play so bad and i end up forcing myself to stop.

so then i went off to the side and hung out with the wv crew, and just sat on the steps hanging out. mahood took a pic of me, itll probably show up online sometime soon. i think it was around this time that i went to wawa with goldberg, felix, and alex? got some apple juice, which is really sweet. i think i hung out for a little bit, tried to keep off my feet, but that damn hacky sack was tempting me so i went over to a circle that was ellis, ales, and caleb. i played like 2 hours here. it was so much fun. caleb is one of my really good footbag friends, and it was cool to shred with ellis for the first time. he has shooting butter>blurry torque>mullet or something really close. idk, it was sweet. eventually ales and caleb dropped out (btw, ales has the sickest backside bedwetter ever!, and caleb has sweet blurry whirl>reverse swirls) anyway then it was me and ellis one on one. we ere going for big tricks and stuff, and i hit some ok stuff, ellis was busting well too. then we basically got really tired and stopped. but i had whirlwind>spinning pdx. blender really close, which was good.

after this we all went out to dinner. we went to this philly diner place and i got like a cheeseburger. it was phat. it was a lot of us. i sat across from emily (moxie) who is SUPER cool. she was injured but i was dying to see her rip. mike hansen was there too, and hes a super nice guy. im trying to include everyone i hung with in this becuase everyone is so cool. so we ate, and steve almost died off sugar (hes crazy), and then we went back to the hotel i think. yea, and then i played poker with moir and cheebs and people, but i lost on ace king suited so i went with alex to steves room where we heard a lot of good footbag history. we were with ales and felix, its really cool to chill with those guys. ales was telling about his body building and stuff, its crazy. oh shit, i forgot, between all of this i watched jorden, felix, and alex play in a weight room. that was really cool, idk how i forgot that. and i walked around with brad nelson and nick laroche looking for the "party" which never existed.

then i came back to my room, stretched with alex cuz we were sore as shit, took a shower, and then crashed. sometime around 2 oclock jorden came in, all i remember is that hat he had on and him saying "sup" or something?

ok, day two will come later, becuase my hands are tired.... errr fingers.

if anyone thinks that this should all be capitalized and stuff, tell me and i can just start writing it in word and pasting it in here. im actually like a good writer, but i just dont bother capitalizing and making sure evrything is spelled right, cuz its a blog and stuff. but if you want correct spelling, just say it and i can grammar this shiznat up.

its 1:16 and im not in school! score!

I think the best part of that post was how you used "grammar" as a verb. :) Sweet.

Good to hear you had a great time. I know what you mean by, "How did I forget that!" That's why I made that Worlds' Journal and wrote in it everyday because SO MUCH STUFF happens. It's probably going to turn into a Footbag Event Journal instead, and I'll just write stuff for every significant footbag day. Or..yeah.

And yeah Joe looks so much like you! It's one thing when someone else tells you that you look like so and so, but when you see it yourself, you gotta know the resemblance is pretty striking. His earlier videos reminded me of your "Crappy Webcam Productions" so much.

There's this guy who had the lead role in this series that died out fast..."Undeclared"? I think? I don't know. Oh wait here he is:

And here's me:

You think?

I only posted pictures in your blog to get back at you for the banana.

Peace. And if you can't get to Helsinki, I've got a room for you in Edmonton...and a phone number with your parents' name on it...

back.

i kicked for like 3 hours last night cuz i thought wed have a delay cuz of ice, but we didnt, so i was tired all day.

ok, so back to CP/ i forgot to mention that there was a huge subway sesh saturday night, it was cool. fuz (caleb) busted really phat. fusion>blurry drifter anyone? it was dope.

ugh, i dont feel like typing at all. that bap 2005 thread is stupid. half those people could quit by then. its way to early to judge. and personally, once i dial inside stall, im in for sure.

anyway the 2nd say of CP was phat, and we had competition and stuf, and ii got 4th, chris got 2nd which was sick, jorden did well, justin and pat busted in intermediate, yada yada. i had like 2 good strings the whole day. but its cool. i played with ellis and felix, that was cool. and played with kenny for the first time in a while. i left around 5. overall philly was sick. i have so much props to give out, but im to lazy to, so if you are like "hm i thoughti busted in front of dave and he didnt say anything" dont worry about it. off the top of my head here are some people who impressed me:

chris dean, his shuffle is phat
tom mosher, way better style then before
jorden, duh
scott, his style is phat
justin/pat/alex for their intermediate stuff

ok, now some non-CP stuff. i said that bap trhead was dumb becuase in actuality, no one has seen those players play. like, you get this picture in your head of people and then when youactually kcik with them in real life they arent consistant and their "video" stuff is like, 1/20 lines. so if you are going off videos, dont, becuase they lie and no one is that good. if you want to know who i think will make bap, i have no clue, becuase i havent seen like anyone play. so blah.

anyway, im out. peace.

i've seen most of them play in person, so i felt like commenting on who i knew. but i also agree that it's way way too early.

agreed, well, except for vasek. you can film 5 minutes of that kid and all 5 minutes of it are video worthy. pretty much every one else, however, you can film for an hour and get about 5 minutes worth of good lines. i totally agree though, video lies, it's just the best of what they have hit on tape, it doesn't accuratly depict their game.

i find it funny you don't have to go to school when the roads are icy. we send kids out for recess when it's -50.

Hey Dave,

How far are you from the greater Toronto area?

hey wait, I can find out, watch this.

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main ... N&2z=&2ah=

7 hours 20 minutes from the Northampton Bethlehem PA and ...

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main ... N&2z=&2ah=

5 hours 34 minutes from the Clearfield Bethlehem PA.

It would SLAY if you could make it up to Toronto Ontario for the Great Lake Area Shred Session! You do live in the area afterall.

It's in a month, you should convince Jon Schneider to pick you up on the way, he has expressed a little interest in coming.

Peace out dude!

hey, I have you're sumo>fusion on tape. Maybe I will put it online or make a short video or something. I really didn't get enough footage from cp to make the type of video that I wanted to (like an Evan Lovely CSS video thing). We will see.

I really liked the recap of chilly. You make everything sound so fun, I just wish I could have been there to see it with my own eyes. Major props on the new strings and the blog. Also I think its too early for the bap thread at this point because who knows what will happen and who will get injured. Last year's thread was way off :p and only a few of the people named actually got in while almost everyone's top pick did not, so go figure...

January 8th, 2005

Today was perhaps one of my best sessions ever. I played for 3 hours. Heres what came out of it.

pdx. whirl>blurry drifter repeat
blurry whirl>pdx. drifter repeat
pdx. drift>blurry whirl>pdx. drift>blurry whirl>ps whirl
jani walker both sides
symposium whirling infinity both sides
flurry both sides
rubberman>matador both sides
blurry whirl>matador both sides
blurry whirl>gyro dlo both sides
blurry whirl>blurry drifter...... repeat

I'm in a stellar mood, becuase furious set was always a bitch, and i cant beleive i hit the combo grant suggested. I hope this is the start of good things to come. Now if only i could hit that damn whirr.
