Gambling in School

I'm curious if any other school's that you guys and girls go to has a gambling scene? A couple of months ago, people started playing Blackjack on our free classes during the day, and at lunch sometimes. A handfull of people played, and then it started growing and more and more people played. Sometimes we'de have two or three tables (full tables) going at once. Nobody took it that seriously, just played for quarters, 50 cent games and loonies. Then some shady people started bringing dice to school, haha. So some people played that. This week a few of us started playing Texas Hold'Em style Poker. Individual bets usually are inbetween $2 and $5. But sometimes if we're just passing the time and not really care about playing, we'll just do bets of 50 cents or a buck or something similar. Now theres a handfull of people who play Hold'Em, a few people learnt the hard way not to go in without a bit of money because it can be a waste with a medium sized table. So some people stay away from it, haha. It's kind of funny how there's a mini casino in our school. We play every day and an hour and a half usually each person spends playing. They made a new rule that you get suspended for 5 days if you're caught gambling because it's actually gotten pretty bad. We have our ways though

Anyways, back to my question... I was trying to figure out if there are other schools that are like this, or if it's just mine.

yeh deffenatly, everyone plays texas hold em here... not to much of the other stuff, I have seen some dice too... no rules against it yet, the teachers don't care. people play it in there classes at breaks and such.

Im a freshman in college now, but I'll cover my high school first. C-Lo, which is a dice game, was very popular starting in 8th grade up till graduation. My friends and I played hold em all the time during lunch and what not.

Here at school, my friends and I are fairly serious about hold em. We usually get a bunch of people to do a 20 dollar buy in just for fun. When we really want to play though, we go into NYC and go to card rooms, where buyins range from 200-750.

we do but not as big as you guys describe it. Our hall monitors, lunch ladies and all sorts of patrol people have airthight security. A small paper die could even be taken seriously it's tight here in NJ.....luckies...

but the big thing here is footbag

Haha, I'll def agree with that. As soon as we pull out a deck of cards during lunch, there are aids swarming our table. We finally had to convince the principal that we weren't gambling, but playing just for fun (which we weren't but it wasn't a substantial amount of money anyway)

heheh........at least you got a reasonable principal you guys.....ours are like, Army/ Marine seargeants. they'll prolly take out a zippo and torch our cards if we take them out during lunch

funny this thread should come up....just afew days ago my friend from my old school told me he got suspended for playing c-lo in school. since i just moved i havent really started hanging out with many people yet or anything but in my old school (before they caught us) wed play blackjack and poker and rummy500 and shit during homeroom and study hall.

Back when I was in high school gambling was always banned as far as I can remember? I think it might actually be illegal for minors to gamble? It would kinda come up in waves though. I remember walking in on an illicet dice match in the bathroom one time and it being really awkward... People also used to play dominoes a lot.

We were playing dice in math class once and the teacher threw a roll or two (no cash) but then at the end of the day on the announcements the principle said that no gambling should take place so the teacher took our dice. They were cool dice too. They were like the clear red ones with the white pips (thats the little dots. I know my dice shit).

It's banned in our school after a fight broke out over blackjack. But the bann doesn't work. People find ways around it. Like for the betting on the UAA hockey games people place there bets in the last stall of the second floor bathroom by the sofa. It was getting pretty intense. People were betting 20s and 50s. I try to stay away from it because I want to keep my money but sometimes I can't resist a good old bet on UAA. I won 20 once from that. UAA sucks. They give me good odds.

Yeah, it's just sitting in the hall by the chem labs. It's really old and wore; it doesn't have any legs. The story behind it is that some seniors 10 ish years back found it in a dumpster and put it in hall as a joke and the school just left it there.

Our school are mostly inside as you probly guessed. It was so cold today I was eating lunch outside and the end of my sandwich had frost on it.

I wish we had a couch...I should get one. I would put it in the guys bathroom down by the band room though. Then I could shred in the bathroom and then just chill on the couch. While Im at it I should get a coke machine for in there and a phone and.......
But we play cards all the time.
Hold em is usually what the kids play but I like Black Jack.

I had a professional gamblerer for AP/Chemistry. He taught us how to play and count cards on wednesdays. Yet another reason not to slack off in highschool, you might learn something that can make money.

If you can count from -2 to +2 in your head, you can win at blackjack against a dealer with a set of constraints that frames the game as a statistical excercise.

I don't know but i once heard a bunch of college grads used math and all the numbers crap to count cards and they pulled it off with like millions!

I can sum it up for you, but there are books and stuff written about it... the basic premise is that high cards, faces and aces, are good for the player so those count as a minus whenever there played, because that means there is one less in the deck... low cards are counted as + when played because that means more high cards remain... so basicly you bet as low as you can until you get a big + number and then you bet like crazy... This is the basic premise for card counting, but it does get more complicated...

Even with counting you can still expect to lose money, even some of the best players can really only maintain a very small (like .5 - 1 %) advantage over the house in blackjack.

Under optimum circumstances, with good players at the table working together to make money, you achieve less than a 52% chance of winning. The winnings come from playing many hands, and making the slight %advantage work for you. If your count is off, you will loose more than if you were not counting.
