How do the pros get enough cash to survive? Do they have jobs outside of footbag? Are they Sponsored? I would love to know because if I put my mind to it I can get good enough. That would be a dream come true but you need cash to live, and the turnies dont give out tons and tons like Football players or Baseball players get.

No one makes enough money to live off of footbag alone... the closest thing to that would be the stitchers I think... someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong...

i know matt cross has told me of street performing, he said you got to be where alot LOT LOT of ppl are and you got to be GOOD not so much hiting big stuff just looking smooth and clean and long strings and alot of bsos kinda stuff. rember you dont have to go big to impress some one in this sport what a great sport.

Most people that I've met who are exposed to footbag for the first time (or even a few times) don't know/care about bsos (both sides in one string.) A lot of people say that the first few times they saw footbag they had a hard time telling what exactly was going on. Usually if it looks impressive they're impressed. But that's just me being picky and off topic.

What about Greg Nelson? As far as I know he travels and makes his living from flying disk and footbag demos etc. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I doubt he can make a living out of it.

Speaking of Matt Cross, he also taught footbag classes in Rochester which he was paid, like, $10 an hour for by the city? Daryl might make a living off of Freedom, and footbag stuffs, but I may have heard wrong.

Actually, from what I understand, Ryan IS making a living off what he does: street performances.

This is a different then just shredding though. What he does also incorporates juggling, theatrics and humour.. Footbag is just one part of his show.

By working. 'Pro footbag player' is not these people's actual jobs. Footbag is a passion.

In 99.9% percent of the cases, I would have to say yes.

last i heard he was living in copenhagen denmark. i'd put my money on that... lots of tourists.

on the street performing thing. i made 14 euros playing in a piazza in rome. i was just shredding and left my hat down and some brittish tourist dropped in some coins, which got me thinking. i put my hat out where it was obvious and played to the crowd a bit. after 2 hours i went and i bought my self the largest tub of gelati i could find!

According to Steve, Ryan street-performed in Denmark this summer in order to earn money for school and housing in San Francisco, which is where he is at now.

When Ryan is in Denmark he usually does shows on the streets. Just footbag, no bad jokes or juggling (only foot-juggling). He would usually do 10-15 routines per day, and from what I understand he was making well, more than I was earning with my full-time-job!!! (he didn't have to pay tax like me!!) He is now back in San Fransisco and busy with school I think. And all the tourists have left Denmark anyway...
The name of this topic is Footbag Career. Busking is not what comes to my mind (at least not only) when I think of footbag as a (possible?!) career....

I heard once that a bunch (12-14) kickers got paid some big cash to do some school demos and tourneys in Ireland. It was a 3 month promotion, and they got the royal treatment. Allan Hagget went, Sam Conlon, Yves Bouqier (sic?) and some punks from Aldirta There was another tour like that to the czech republic, which if Im not mistaken was where vasek was introduced to footbag. The cash was nice, and car and driver were paid for.

I think Michael Graves went on that tour... or so I gathered from the one time I played with him. I think it was for some candy company or something? (skittles, starburst?). At the time I thought it insane that people were actually being "sponsored" to play footbag.
