It's not an epidemic. It's what happens when freedom has been curtailed to the point the American life revolves around eating junk food watching the television waiting to be told what to be afraid of this week.
The American population has conceded it's recreation hours in favor of more work for less pay, and no longer gets enough excersice. Boo Hoo, cry me a river.
Obesity is not contageous, it is not an epidemic, it's a phenotype of the choices our population has made. Fat people get no sympathy from me.
I can't afford enough food to get fat, but I have time to excersice, because those are the choices I made. When will people accept responsibility for their own actions and choose to make a difference in their own lives.
Want a drug that fixes obesity, try cyanide.

Yeh, it seems very misleading to call it an epadimic, as if you were claiming it was contagous and it's not our fault we're getting fat... I do however feel sorry for the people who are fat, even if they can help it... most people don't do anything active at all, it's no wonder your getting fat.

that's why I'm glad to be palying footbag. While I'm trying to hit omlette, some chubs is trying to scarf down 3 omelettes.....sorry that osudned funny to me but it's not really an epidemic as much as it is just a "fad" of not excersicing. face it: ho wmany people shred? That's prolly the only people in America who aren't 30 lbs. over weight......it's not the genetic like Tsiangkun said, but a fault of 1st world riches. we're all getting lazy....

Don't most obese people these days claim to have a "medical condition"? Not one induced by obesity, but one causing it? I thought that was the new "trend", so to speak, to put responsibility elsewhere than on the person actually not getting of their ass and exercising.
Couch patatoes don't get any sympathy from me.
Although I will agree that in some rare cases (thank God they're rare) heavy doses of certain medication can cause obesity. Don't ever think it's the norm though.

We should sympathize a little, some people gain lots of extra weight by eating the same amount of food that us thinner people eat with no problem.
Lack of exercise is probably the main culprit.
American and Western prosperity enables us to eat like pigs.
This will be solved by waiting around for World War III to escalate further, or a nuclear holocaust, plague, or agricultural disaster.
Then when there is not enough food to go around, obesity rates will drop.

Thank you for backing up mine, my girlfriends, and about 200 other people I know's thoughts.
"I got fat from McDonalds! I'm sueing!"
It was your god damned choice to eat that god damned 7th big mac without cheese because of your "diet." Fuck you. It's your fault.
Suddenly, it's not a personal responsibility to watch what we eat. Any lawyer who even considers taking a case up concerning some dumbfuck's inability to put the fork down should be shot in the face... Damned scumbags...

Well, I've got some sympathy. Many people are simply built differently, genetically speaking, and they're bigger and would have to work much harder than me to lose the weight, if they wanted to (I doubt many of them don't want to).Fat people get no sympathy from me.
Furthermore, I often feel very very lucky to have footbag. I play alot, I often do half an hour of consecutive basic kicks just because I believe that its a decent cardiovascular workout without being too wearing on my aging knees, and I'm not totally convinced of the cardiovascular benefits of shredding in a four or five man circle. Anyway, my point is that I feel lucky that I found a form of excercise that I love, that I want to do more than enough to stay healthy. If there was no footbag, getting excercise might seem like much more of a chore, an onerous task that I was loath to do. I really like a good bike ride, but I don't like it enough to do it four or five days each week. I don't like it enough to do it in the cold and the rain (actually, I've done lots of that, and I've ridden seven days a week for years, but thats just because I didn't have a car and lived in a town that was very bike-friendly).
Many people have pre-existing health problems that severly limit their excercise options.
I'll certainly agree that it is only one's own fault, though, and don't support anyone's attempt to sue McDonalds or anyone else for being obese. However, though it may be one's own fault, all things are not equal in fitness, and some have it easier than others.
Have a little sympathy for EVERYBODY, people.
