CLIP >> SAME SWIRL [DEX] > SAME CLIP [XBD][DEL]
OK, I looked through the whole trick topic list and I can't find anything on swirls, and that's what I need. I just can't seem to get my leg to move very fast when it's in swirling position... also how hard is this trick generally speaking, like should I learn it before or after other 3's? Thanks.

its not how fast you move in the begining, its makeing a good clean rotation. the way i did it was practiceing ANYTIME standing still with out a bag i do the motion and drill it and drill it, then try it with a bag. what i do at least *i dont know if other ppl do it the same way* I set the bag and start my swirl dex at basicly the same time, i kinda let the bag roll off in a way, use your support leg and lift up kinda lift alittle up on your toes just alittle will help with dexing, after a while u wont have to do that at all. it really just takes some time, but if you drill the motion you will learn them i belive, i dont think speed is much of a thing its all in when u start to dex the bag and how clean your dex is. speed can play a bit of a part but once u got the motion down speed comes with it.
i dont find this trick to be *hard* really at all it just takes some time, hiting it mid string was truble for me at frist but once ya got em ya got em
they ARE my fav trick, i just cant get enogh of them. Wish my leg felt the same way, my knees kinda hurt some days from swirling too much.

bend your support knee before the swirl. straighten it and pull your foot back a little so the footbag rolls of your foot for the set. then, it's just a tiny little forward swirl motion. it's an easy move if you can get this movement right, and doing it this way leads well to ripstein.
start with your clipper foot as low to the ground as possible. some people like to do their swirls (and especially their ripsteins) more behind their back for more dexterity clearance.

One thing that I had to force myself to be concious of is the height of my set. You really want to go with a low set for swirls. Set the bag super low, basically rolling it off your foot like Matt and Zach said, and follow through smoothly.
No need to rush.

Vasek (and pretty well everyone else) rolls the bag off when he does ripsteins. Looks pretty good to me.

For me it would be ok to learn Ripstein and swirl at the same time.
If the set- method is good for a double swirl - it should be ok for one swirl too!
I am very happy to read tips which try to visualize their sense by comparing them to the next level of this trick

Ok, I thought that the relationship between swirls and ripsteins was pretty obvious. I guess it isn't.
Completely unrelated tricks. Yep.

i understand what he is saying, when talking about vasek u cant compare him to avridge shreders. the man can probley do swirls with his eyes closed. i see no problem in letting it roll, i watched alot of videos and everyone seems to roll the bag off the toe when they do swirls.Newf wrote:Why not?Juice wrote:Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought you werent suppose to make the bag roll on the set.

ok i didnt know where else to post this so ill add it in here, DOWN TIME SWIRLS... I want to know for learning them whats the best set to try them from. its hard to set with your support leg i learned bc its hard to move that fast and get the swirl dex in time. but seting from the same leg as the swirl leg is easyer, also i tryed seting from op cliper. i think i need to make the first part of my dex MUCH tighter bc im leging it lose alittle to much. any advice on dexing or tricks to this trick
a slight roll off the foot is key to a small, easy swirl, and absolutely necessary for swirling set.Juice wrote:Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought you werent suppose to make the bag roll on the set.
in my tip, I forgot to mention that it helps to point your toe down just a little bit as the bag is rolling off your foot. This will increase the chances of releasing the bag, and will make the set more crisp.

i recommend proping a ruler or a stick parallel to the ground about knee high, and practice the swirling motion. This wil allow you to get thousands of dexes around an object with out ever having to pick the bag up. Also if you go front to back with the swirl, try sliding up behind the calf of your opposite foot then going around, also recommended for twirls. For the other swirl, play around with it. Try reaching the clipper out a little further or in a litte closer, its sometimes hard to do the dex if your trying under your ass, or if your extending to far from your hip. At first try rolling the bag off the foot, but eventually you'll need to set and do it downtime, if you ever want to hit double swirl, because it is a combination of the two.

Keep in mind there are 2 ways to do swirls. The first is downtime, and is often called `symple.` You mostly use this swirl after doing a set, or as the final downtime component of a move, like butterfly swirl or whatever. I think of this kind of swirl as completely different from straight up, regular swirl.
For me, the key to hitting regular swirl is the set. With many moves, you set the bag by lifting your clipper foot, thereby `launching` the bag up. Ducks and spins are the clearest examples of this. I think the biggest mistake most people make when trying swirls, is trying to `set` the bag this way.
I find that the perfect height a footbag needs to be for a swirl, is roughly the same height it is when it sits on your clipper. Therefore, launching the bag up sets the bag too high. According to Isaac Newton, a body at rest will stay at rest unless some other force acts on it. Using this first law of motion, you can hit swirl.
Instead of `launching` or setting the bag by lifting your clipper foot, instead let your clipper foot fall. By dropping your clipper foot, the footbag will stay for a split second at the same height it was when it was on your foot. Of course, gravity will eventually pull it to the floor, but you do have a split second where the 1st law of motion will keep the bag at the perfect height to swirl it. So after you drop your foot, focus on going around the bag very slowly with your ankle, then finish by doing a clipper stall.
I also advise you try doing swirls in both directions. For me, reverse swirl is easier and more natural than forward swirl. It varies by person.
Hope this helped some.

1. one thing, that is very important (sometimes jons advices are really good) :
dex with your ankle, not your foot ! especially if you do downtime swirls this makes it a lot easier !
2. That roll-off method is cute indeed, but it sucks.
a.) you can't say it's good, because it fits for ripsteins ! a good footbagger is an idealist, not a radical constructivist; a ripstein without roll-off is a lot better but also a lot harder.
it's like saying "I'm able to hit osis without spinning and if vaska does symp torques, he also does them this way. If it's good enough for symp torques it must be considered clean !"
You maybe get my point.
b.) Try doing reverse swirls with that roll-off (you'll maybe hurt yourself) ! Let me guess : You can't do them this way, am I right ? Well why should I learn two ways of doing swirls, if ONE would fit for both directions ?
I'm also able to double spin if I spin while catching the bag for the clipper, but that ain't clean style.

i have only seen one person do swirl downtime, and he makes it look smooth, and defined.
i like it, and thats just my taste, maye i'll see someone else do one and it will look gross to me too.
i'm finding that the roll off method isn't helping me anymore than a clean set, i am still new to trying it, but both seem to work fine for one swirl. I have no say on ripstein or revstein, i can't hit them so I don't know about the roll off technique for 'em.
