What the hell was he thinking?

I don't understand how someone can do that, even as a joke.

Maybe this should be in the discussion section, but I never go in there, so I put it in here.

personally, i think the press is making a bigger deal about it than it needs to be. personally i think it's a funny costume, and i am now considering a hitler costume come next hallowe'en. is it any worse than dressing up as say osama bin laden? he's a 20 year old dewd, out a costume party (at least i assume so, the articles i've read said "fancy dress" party), get over it world.

edit: i think him and i would get on like a house on fire. he's hanging out with a drink, a dart, and some daft friends, in a costume i find hilarious. we probably would, if he wasn't english, and if granny didn't reign over my people. FREEEEDOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. He's not trading in his clothes for Nazi uniforms while preaching the word of Osama here...

It was a costume party. Y'know, where people dress up as something/someone they are not. For fuck's sake, this isn't earth-shaking.

Yeh, I always think it's wrong when people are born into fame... I mean it's ok for there parents, because they chose to be followed around and stuff and have pictures taken of them... the kids didn't though, and they can't just say, "I want out of this"...

wellll, while i am personally not offended by him dressing as a nazi, especially in the light of a costume party, i think it was really stupid. he should have realized that people WOULD get offended by this.

well, is it his duty not of offend the public? the dewd is followed by press 24/7. if he picked his nose it would probably be put in a paper and would undoubtedly offend some one. if you dressed up as hitler and went to a costume party, would it offend some people? yeah it likely would, would you still wear it, i think so. but you wouldn't have a press conference in your living room the next day apologizing to the masses. every one needs to chill out.

Nose picking is something quite seperate than anti-semitism. Not to say he is any anti-semite, but that leads to my next point

Basically, yes. The royals stand only for symbolism and have no decision making power. Thus their only job is to be symbolic leaders of their country, and thus not offend their public.

The entire Kingship system only stands as a reminded of serfdom of the middle ages, and should be abolished altogether. I would be pissed if my tax dollars were being put to use to let wealthy people live fabulous lives. And it takes a lot for em to argue against over taxation in any case.

In my opinion this is not hilarious!

At your next costume party - would you dress as a tsunami , if it is possible?
- I guess not these days.

"Hitler" was never a joke he is/ and will be a threat in future for all countries, too.

OK this costume seems to be very special but it is inappropriate. This kind of specialty is hopefully the only reason for the prince to chose it

The comparison to Bin Laden is not correct - Bin Laden is a terrorist - Hitler was an emperor who tried to convince people with his attitudes.Due to this he wanted to conquer the world.

In many countries there are lots of people who believe in their own superiority compared to other countries/ races- so always think about your difference to the " Dritte Reich".

In my view all people who are interested in this kind of history or politics are offended by such a costume - not to mention those people who suffered hardship under his regime.

I fail to understand how Hitler is still a threat. The ideas that he conveyed to the public, alright, those ideas should be discouraged and avoided. But at some point, the world needs to move on, and get over it.

Getting over it doesn't mean that the world's going to forget. Just like any other lief experience, you move on and *learn* from it. It rarely helps to dwell on something you could've done differently.

It makes me wonder what's going to happen to Remembrance day once all the veterans are dead.

Hitler's legacy will last until someone worse comes along. It's no surprise that Bush compared Saddam to Hitler in the precurssor to the war, and it will happen again many times until someone steals the title of supreme genosist.

He is able to live as free as the rest of us. All of us are free to be attacked in the press if we wear a NAZI armband, this is because of freedom of the press. Let's not take away someone elses freedom for the purpose of another, that's exactly how the anti-semitism in Germany started in the first place!

And it isn't like anyone calling for his execution or anything for doing it, he will face no reprocussions, so he is living just as free as anyone else.

right on. if he is free to dress that way, we are free to judge him as we will. and he should expect that, as he IS in the spotlight.
