Jared's Footblog

Post by junkyardjew »

Thought I'd come back and edit this first post into an intro. My name is Jared and I've been shredding since november 04. I'm having a good time with it, and I'm progressing, although I don't play as much as I'd like to. That will change when spring comes though. Oh yeah, and you should check out my friend Chris and I's blog.

what i've hit

Post by junkyardjew »

haven't hit a whole lot yet - 41 alternating toe stalls, bsos around the world (outside-in), right legover, and bsos clippers (five in one string is still my top).

thanks

Post by junkyardjew »

yeah ryan, thanks. that video is also available at the kingston footbag militia website (http://members.lycos.co.uk/torrentblog/ ... loads.html). that's a temporarly address until we get some fly footbag hosting. a really brutal low res video of basically every trick i can do (in a minute and a half) is online there too.

also matt, its funny that you'd say that, cause i was thinking of getting that bull tattooed on my thigh... chilly philly is a maybe, i have some conflicting plans, and pennsylvania is a LONG way from ottawa...

holy shit

Post by junkyardjew »

so last night improved exponentially. i can't even describe how much better i was at the end of the night. basicially what happened was that i learned how to dex properly. something just clicked, and i hit a really clean legover. then i hit it on the other side, then i hit it bsos. basically everytime i thought of a new trick i could possibly hit using these newfound dexing skills, i hit it. at the suggestion of tom, i tried mirage, and i totally hit it! then i tried for like, twenty minutes and eventually hit it flip, so that was pretty cool. oh yeah, and i was thinking, hey, butterflies don't look that hard, so i dropped the bag and hit it first try. boom! at toms suggestion i also tried uh... can't remember. big legover? cliper to legover with the same foot (is that clipper>same out>same foot or clipper>op out> same foot, cause though it's the same foot, the trick is on the opposite side of your body? i don't know...). either way, what a fucking night. oh, i hit pick ups on both sides too (as an extension of the legovers really). anyway, if i've missed any, maybe tom will tell me. what a night....

Ya man! Go Jared!

The other trick you did was far legover. Props!

oh, and the jobs notation for that is clip>same out>same toe

Remember the same and op is relative to the thing on the other side of the > and it refers to the leg not the side.

Good work man, we will shred soon!

yo

Post by junkyardjew »

yo. so i got REALLY sick on monday, the day before my last exam (thermodynamics) which i probably would have failed anyway. i ended up going to the hospital the morning of my exam cause i was super dehydrated. they gave me some water intravenously and kept me for a couple hours, and i didn't write my exam. long story short, i hadn't played any footbag at all until yesterday cause i was feeling so weak.

well, i finally got my shoes out and played a little, and i was heartened to find that i was still able to hit some of the tricks i learned uh... was it two weeks ago? almost... anyway, i can still hit mirage, and butterflies occasionally, if i focus. it feels good to close those tricks again after not doing them for so long, cause it shows that it wasn't just a fluke. i was super tired though, and only played for like, half an hour. oh well, it means i'm on the road to recovery right?

so I haven't posted much in here lately, but here's a

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

if you're going to make weed brownies, and split them among only three guys, don't use a whole quarter. you'll have a good time, but by the end of the night you'll be SO high.

[/psa]

we jacked a room at the university the other night. it was the bomb! wickid sound system, lots of space, nobody walking around giving us funny looks... the only downside was that i couldn't get my laptop to play a movie over the projecter, which was pretty wierd. i'm going to figure out what the problem was and try again next time...

we ate the brownies at about eight fifteen, and then shredded until about eleven. i got higher and higher as the night progressed, eventually starting to feel almost drunk on weed. it was very strange. to complete the wierdness, after we stumbled out into the fucking cold night air, i started throwing up. but we were in the middle of campus, so there's not really anywhere inconspicious to throw up, so i was hurling on the median, the on the sidewalk in front of the big fancy university library, and then over behind the bike racks...

man. sorry about the graphic hurling description, but it kinda freaked me out.

on the other hand, my footbag is progressing at an acceptable rate. i'm hitting pixies and mirages now on a semi-regular basis, but i've lost the ability to do far-legovers, and i can't seem to hit an infinity for the life of me.

also, i've had BSOS driven so hard into my head by mosher, that i almost always try for the other side directly after doing a hard trick, and i usually fail, so my strings get cut short. i need to start balancing tricks that are hard for me to do, with tricks that are easy, so i can get a nice long string going and build my confidence up.

anyway, i'm sure i'll post again. now if only i can find that vomiting emoticon....

ps, if anybody is wondering what my new avatar is, its Shrek.

'what, no that's not' i can hear you saying.

ah, but what you may not know is that shrek (the movie) is based on a book by William Steig, which is much funnier and much better. In the book, shrek is an awesome, fire-breathing villain, who's parents kick him out of the whole he was hatched in to do damage upon the earth.

what could be better?

in any case, while i was home over christmas, i found my old copy of the book and compressed it into a ten meg .rar file, which i will post on the internet or email to you if you're interested. PM me.

i had a nice session with tom last night. short but sweet. hit a couple of new things, which felt pretty good. infinity on both sides! (not BSOS though. wouldn't that be nice...)

i've been working on putting together longer strings. i'm hitting stuff like legover, then mirage, then around the world then pickup on the same string, which is pretty nice. Six contacts with three tricks is about limit right now though. i just gotta keep drilling for glass...

after shredding i went over to my girlfriend's place and we watched about half of Pollock. I thought it was okay but she started getting really bored (and she's the art history major!) so we ended up turning it off about an hour into it.l

anyway, back to the assignment that i forgot was due tonight...

so i had a nice little shred session last night with the kingston footbag militia. i hit infinity on both sides, so that's coming along, did a three add into a three add (butterfly into far legover) which was so fly. anyway, overall i'm having a good time with it, throwing down little strings...

anyway, i'm posting this because i did a new mod on my lavers - zebra stripes! yeah mofo, check it:

It was so hard letting go of that bag but I knew I had to do it in the name of progressing the militia.

Your shoes are the most awesome footbag shoes I have ever seen!
