Blurry = Stepping Paradox? (and pdx question)

Post by Shredfish »

I always thought that blurry and stepping were the same except stepping was to same side and blurry was to op side. But I someone told me on Tricks of the Trade is explains it as stepping paradox. So blurry has more adds than stepping? Also, in the massive tricks section of flipsider there is a video of Felix doing a surging ducking paradox blender (cheese processor). I do not see how this move is paradox. I thought it had to be clip> same...Clarification and or correction is apprecitated.

I guess I never really say blurry leg over when I do a stepping op legover. But if someone said they hit blurry legover I would know what they meant. But technically blurry means stepping paradox. Bit funny since blurriest does not have paradox component, but shares the namesake.

Oh and cheese processor is paradox because the spin reverses the side that gets paradox. It is the spinning paradox add.

Blurry is accepted to be stepping far, but I think it was originally meant to describe any trick that had 2 op in dexes? I'm not too certain on that, I just remember Mr. O'Wheel posting about it.

Spinning almost negates (not the right word, sue me :P) pdx. Well it doesn't negate it... umm... it just reverses or something. All I know is that after you spun the 360 degrees or whatever, it's the farside of your body that needs to do the dexterity to get the extra add. So if you spin with your right clip then any full dex done with your left leg will get pdx or xdex.

yeh Byrin is right, Spinning *switches* the PDX add, so if you do a Spinning Whirl and dex with opposite leg to which you set it, you get PDX. If you were to spin and dex with the same leg as you set (as in regular pdx whirl), it would a Gyro Whirl (non- pdx)

I never knew that...this sport is so much more complex than most people even know. I love learning new things about footbag! Thanks guys.

It is not complex - the theory is over-simplified and therefore it doesn't work.

Paradox is confusing because it's fucked.

No, I don't have something better - yet.

Well...footbag is complex to the average person...more popular sports don't have as much technicality, i think, as for example basket ball or soccer. There are rules to understand...but nothing really like concepts, sets, new moves to invent and hit, and just the huge vocabulary that is in footbag.

And i do agree with the paradox thing...how come a barfly doesn't get a pdx add when pdx illusion does? Is it because the bags ends up on the same side as the dexing??? That shouldn't make a difference...

Yes, the standard argument for why barfly isn't paradox is that there is no double hip pivot.

I've heard blurry called stepping paradox and stepping far.

I think blurry denotes both of those.

O yeah, and paradox is fucked, but it is definatly harder (when it applies) than a nonparadox (mirage vs pdx mirage). Its the whole "spin, far" crap that makes it hard.

I don't buy that there is a double hip pivot in a pdx illusion.

But a paradox illusion is harder than an illusion, thus it deserves some extra 'points'.

Shrug, I guess paradox works.

Is a barfly harder than a paradon? If it is...then maybe it should get extra points too...(I can't hit either trick yet  so that's why I'm asking you guys).

I was going to ask the same thing, but I thought it sorta contradicted my argument a little because barfly and paradon are hard in different ways.

I personally find barflies harder, but it's sorta a half add harder.. you know?

Maybe tricks shouldn't have values, just names. We would all quit our bitching and finally have real free style that isn't bounded by levels.

Bubbas are a sick stylish 2 add that guiltless players don't get to hit.

This is offtpoic, but dont you guys find that 2 adds "break" a string up?

Whenever i see someone who is strong guiltless throw in a clipper, in my mind, the string resets. 2's are so easy that its just a massive bail.

you can't generalize that !

I think bubbas, or rooted illusions don't turn any guiltless string "worse"

just look at vasek doing the crazy rev walkovers out of anything ! that's just style and if it affects anything, then in a positive way

I think some 3 adds breake the string up.
Think hard core shredder doing runs, and then hitting just 3 Osii in a row without any good reason and then he continues with something like Butterfly > Rubberman. That pisses off.

I think style has a TON to do with how a player performs...not just the tricks he/she does. Sometimes a trick may look out of place. That doesn't mean all tricks that look out of place are 2 adds (if you are a guiltless player). Butterfly is a 3 add that I bail too alot...too much sometimes and I would consider my self a tiltless player (I can hit lots of threes...just not schooled both sides yet). I think adds are a great way to have an idea of the difficulty and to see how a trick is set up therefore understanding it more. There are some "kinks" in the system here and there...of course...is that what might hold footbag back from becoming a popular sport? Maybe I'm wrong...

I think bails are important too as they are great for stamina recovery.

Look at vaskas Stand alone vid, he does (I think it was like) 3 consecutive ripwalks which for sure breaks his fluid style, but the he busts like 4 or 5 barraging moves (like cons. janiwalkers).

I'd more like to see bails thrown in but to see ppl drop because of lacking stamina and concentration

Guiltless players don't throw bubbas because bubbas are too easy. throw clip set same side eggbeater or same side flail instead. I would agree that bubba is probably one of the hardest standard two add move, but if I saw it in a guiltless player's run I would think the person messed up and should pass. I mean we have to set the standard somewhere or else people would be kicking the bag, hitting some clippers, going into rubberman then kicking it some more. It would just get really irritating if I saw someone always go for 200 contacts with some 3s and kicks and some 2s and 1s. I would get pretty tired of playing in a circle with him/her.
