What would you actually buy?

Post by Splint »

Recently I've had some shirts designed, to which the response was so positive that I decided to have them made and sell to raise money for CSS6.

Unfortunately, once I put them up for sale, the response almost totally died out. A lot of people (not just on modified) who responded with "I gotta have one", don't feel that way now that they can actually get one.

Am I annoyed? A little. I understand that the shirt isn't in everyone's taste and it costs money. But, hey, it's a fundraiser too. Buy one as a gift for a fellow footbagger for their birthday :D

MOVING ON:
At the same time I think about all the people out there who try to make a business out of footbag. Daryl, Richie, Eli, Yacine, Dexter, Paul Mestas, Eric Windsor etc.... Just how many times do they get all hyped to make things that they "think" players will like, only to get shut out when it comes to orders due to price, lack of interest in the product, laziness, and whatever other reason people might have for not buying the products offered in this sport.

So...WHAT WOULD YOU BUY? Let's do a little market research here. I'm not doing a poll, because I need more than one answer.

If you don't want your answers made public, feel free to PM or e-mail me at [email protected]

Questions:

First, if you do not buy footbag gear or only buy it on rare occasion, please say why.

Footbags:
Do you like footbags?
Do you like to buy footbags?
What kind of footbags?
How much do you like to spend on footbags?
How often do buy footbags?
How many footbags do you normally buy at one time?

Footbag Apparel
Do you like to wear footbag apparel?
If so what kind?
Some examples...
T-shirts?
Hats? (ball cap or other)
Shorts?
Hoodies?
Pants?
Jackets?
Jerseys?
How often do you purchase these items?
How much do you like to pay for these items? (this is very important)
Do you purchase these items a regualr article of clothing or just get them as part of an event?
If you only get them as part of an event, why is that?

Style
What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel?
What sorts of changes or improvments would you like to see in footbags?

Any extra comments are greatly appreciated.

Footbags:
Do you like footbags? ---YES
Do you like to buy footbags? YES
What kind of footbags? Handmade
How much do you like to spend on footbags? $3.42-$35.00
How often do buy footbags? Every five-six weeks
How many footbags do you normally buy at one time? One to five.

Footbag Apparel
Do you like to wear footbag apparel? No, I use running apparel, and soccer shorts
If so what kind?
Some examples...
T-shirts? peakRUN, Hind, RRS, Brooks, New balance,
Hats? (ball cap or other) ) use a A's fitted cap with the vintage colors.
Shorts? I like diadora soccer shorts, adidas soccer shorts, and RRS running shorts
Hoodies? None.
Pants? None.
Jackets? nope.
Jerseys? nope.
How often do you purchase these items? Rarely, I buy quality articles of clothing. They generally last 3 years or more, don't dis-color, and don't hold odors. I don't like to kick in natural fibers because they hold so much water and dry so slowly.

How much do you like to pay for these items? (this is very important) $45-65 shirts, $30-45 shorts

Do you purchase these items a regualr article of clothing or just get them as part of an event?
If you only get them as part of an event, why is that? I prefer to buy my own clothes at stores catering to athletes. I get shirts to collect at what few events I attend, but not to play in.

Style
What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel? I don't like footbag clothes that say "footbag" anywhere on them.
What sorts of changes or improvments would you like to see in footbags?
Any extra comments are greatly appreciated.
Footbaggers are nice people , but won't pay very much for anything. Everyone loves the idea, likes the product, but doesn't want to pay.

Footbags:
Do you like footbags? Hell yes

Do you like to buy footbags? Hell yes

What kind of footbags? 32's and occasionally, when needed to replace, sands

How much do you like to spend on footbags? as much as my finances can handle ( at times, maybe 80 or so but that's with my aunt who's Über)

How often do buy footbags? prety often but really seasonal

How many footbags do you normally buy at one time? about three or so

Footbag Apparel
Do you like to wear footbag apparel? don't know yet
If so what kind? n/a

Style
What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel?
32s, or:

drawn lavers modded with a 32 in its left side. I wanna draw that...it's reprsent really nicely

What sorts of changes or improvments would you like to see in footbags? nothing much for me. We've pretty much hit the right sopt with facile, 32 and filler. as for now, great balance. any more or less would hinder the performance of the bag. just improve on the capabilities of the 32. maybe new patterns like Abshire patterns or normal hexes and normal pents

dude, sorry but if I really had $, i"d fork over but I'm strapped......you know that. but I'll donate in another way as soon as I can...

heh, I just bought one of the shirts...

it's not like a lack of interest thing, it's just hard to go over, log into paypal, and send off 22 bucks for a shirt that's not right in front of me. I'm MUCH more likely to buy a shirt at a tournament, when I can have it in my hands, and experience the awesomeness firsthand.

footbags, however, I will gladly order online. I love footbags, I'm addicted.

hm, instead of trying to talk my way through answering your questions, I'll just take the survey.

Footbags:
Do you like footbags? ...

Do you like to buy footbags? oh yeah

What kind of footbags? 32s made by reputable stitchers. I also like bags by more casual stitchers, but I don't like to pay full price (or anything) for them, because they often don't perform like the bags made by people who get really serious about it and dial their style.

How much do you like to spend on footbags? $20 for newer stitchers, $30 for quality-stitched bags, although I GLADLY paid more for 2 Felix bags at CP.

How often do buy footbags? hard to say, I went a long time without buying any, and then in the past few weeks, I've received 2 for free, bought one, and ordered 2 more from Paris, and I'm talking to a few East Coast stitchers who are just getting started from whom i'll probably get another 2-3 footbags. so, it varies...

How many footbags do you normally buy at one time? I've never purchased more than one from a stitcher at a time, except from Felix, but one of those was for someone else in my club.

Footbag Apparel
Do you like to wear footbag apparel? I love my tournament shirts, that's all I've got right now.

If so what kind?

Some examples...
T-shirts? yep

Hats? (ball cap or other) I'd wear a toque if I liked it enough, the color for the Chilly Philly ones wasn't right for me. probably not a baseball cap, those just aren't my style.

Shorts? yeah, the Worlds '03 ones with the super stylized freestyler doing a clipper were awesome, but having a footbag logo on my shorts isn't a priority. in fact, I would prefer something less baggy than said shorts. So, they'd have to be just right, but I'd buy some, maybe with something footbag related embroidered on the front hem of the left leg or something...

Hoodies? yeah, I'd definitely get one of these. Still waiting on JT Hibbs to finish the logo work so I can print some ;)

Pants? i wouldn't spend my money on this

Jackets? I wouldn't spend my money on this

Jerseys? hm, maybe. I kind of perceive the hoodies as a jersey, and then I prefer to freestyle barechested.

How often do you purchase these items? sporadically at best

How much do you like to pay for these items? fair market value, definitely no more than $20 for a t-shirt... christ, I haven't spent that much a shirt since I was 16. I definitely would NOT go to the mall and get one at hot topic or something for that much, but it's worth it since it helps footbag and it's footbag related and by an awesome face on the scene.

Do you purchase these items a regular article of clothing or just get them as part of an event? More likely an event than a casual purchase

If you only get them as part of an event, why is that? for the reasons I wrote in my opening paragraph, and because I'm more psyched about footbag and life in general at tournaments, so I'm more likely to feel free with money and just spend it easily because I'm having a good time and because I associate the items with the event and people I love. makes sense, right? I, and most players, don't have a lot of money to throw around, and footbag-related apparel just isn't at the top of my budget this month.

Style

What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel? I'd like to see a real footbag shoe. Aesthetically, I like the super-stylized kind of graffiti writing and art that's going all over everything these days, it's just the style of the fresh, young alternative sport scene right now. However, I'd like to see things moving into a different kind of stylization, just stuff that isn't so cliche, maybe more artistic. if we're just talking about graphics, I LOVE JT Hibbs' style, and I think he should be putting out some awesome footbag shirts.

So, be artsy with it, but not everything has to look like it was done with a can of spraypaint.

What sorts of changes or improvements would you like to see in footbags? Hard to say... I love my felix bag because it kicks straight and true, it's quite full, relatively heavy, and stalls well even though it's not floppy.

I'd like very much to see the natural changes and improvements that will come from more people stitching, getting their footbags just as they like them, and experimentation. Footbags will improve on their own, but as for the direction I'd like that improvement to take, it's hard to say. I like things as they are, and I can't wait to see how they evolve.

I am willing to spend as much as a product is worth, and if it has to do with footbag, i would be willing to spend more than that, but usually, up to $20 a T-shirt, $25-30 for pants/hats, $40-50 hoodies, and $10 for shorts.

I am the type of guy that doesnt care what I wear, but I enjoy wearing things that I enjoy. I have been wearing the same clothes for about 3-7 years (havent grown an inch since 7th grade, ask mosher about that  )

Style

footbag, crazy stuff, soccer, wicked/trippy designs

What sorts of changes or improvments would you like to see in footbags?

More people stitching their own!

Any extra comments are greatly appreciated.

I am poor due to being a 17 year old own my own. I also don't have a job at the moment. But the money I do get, I'm kinda stingy on buying things. As I am surrounded by a world of $70 pants!?!?!? What the fuck kind of crap is that? I usually would rather save my $$$ and wear the same clothes that are worth. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, when I have the $, I like to buy clothes that I like, and if I had the option to buy footbag clothes, I would only buy those, no matter the cost

I buy all my clothes at second hand stores, but i love to mod them like crazy. i take in shirts and pants when i have access to a sewing machine, and add patches when i don't.

you know what i'd love? a really nice footbag patch. maybe its the punk in me, but whenever i'm at a show, i always try and pick up a patch and sew it to an old t-shirt/jacket/bag/hat etc.

patches can be attached to anything, sold cheap, screen printed by hand... lots of reasons to like them. BUT, i'm so bad about buying things over the internet.

anyway, just my two cents.

Footbags:
Do you like footbags? Yeah
Do you like to buy footbags? Yes, but I only will if I have for the money it -- I don't like to spend money on things I don't need (especially when in school)
What kind of footbags? I have not bought many. I own a couple of the old-style Carols, a Juice and a JHibbs. I've played with other bags, Felix, Abshire, Lonn, etc. My favourite have been JHibbs bags -- I love the feel, the sound and the patterns. Plus I love Trevorr, he's really really cool and we get on well.
How much do you like to spend on footbags? Honestly, as little as possible -- oh, I didn't even buy a Hibbs bag, he gave it to me. Things are pricey for us, up in Canada with shipping and duties and taxes and all that crap. A carol bag I ordered cost $60. The one that was bought for me at Worlds cost like, $30 or $40..My Lavers cost me $120can!! So I guess for that reason I avoid buying things (other than videos, which I NEEEEED). To actually answer the question, I don't think I would like to spend more than $25 on the intial price (not counting all the additional charges...)
How often do buy footbags? Not often. Like I said, I've bought, like, few. I used to play with Freedom bags, but I missed beads and started with them again -- the cheapness of Freedoms was a big thing. I guess I will probably buy a bag once a year or maybe a bit less.
How many footbags do you normally buy at one time? One, but I could go for 2.

Footbag Apparel
Do you like to wear footbag apparel? Not terribly.
If so what kind? Well-designed, well-fitted STUFF.
Some examples...
T-shirts? baseball-style would be nice. Nice colours, nice design/logos -- I will not buy or wear something that I don't like the look of. I've only really been to one big tournament and i didn't buy a tshirt there because I wasn't fond of the design. I also need a small size -- I will not wear something that is really baggy. I have a lot of Hackrifice shirts, because we make one every year, and this will be, like, our 7th tournament anniversary this year! There, is, like, one shirt I love -- it's a muddy green and the logo is okay. I also like how nice the sponsors logos look on the back. I think I'd like simple shirt with the footbag peace initiative logo really (left breast?) small. I really like that logo. Moving on...
Hats? (ball cap or other) A bandana, maybe. I started wearing a bandana. It's pink and I love it. It was my girlfriend's. I wear it to keep my superfluous sweat from getting all over my face. I had previously tried other kinds of headwear for this, but I find this works the best so far. I can't say if I would actually buy one or not. Keep in mind I would also be more inclined to buy apparel if it was sold by a well-established video-distributor (Freedom/Monsterhack/Flipsider) -- that way, because I ALWAYS order videos, if I saw something cheap that I liked I could pick it up for less in shipping -- get it?
Shorts? Maybe, if they weren't super expensive and the design/colour was nice and if they were available through a video-distributor (big factor)
Hoodies? I'd love a hoody, but. I like a particular style of hoody though. The baggy ones that aren't really tight on the wrists and waist, you know? Like they don't really have much elastic there they just end, kinf of like a long-sleeve tshirt.
Pants? I dunno
Jackets? I dunno
Jerseys? Like what the Czechs wear? I'd love Team Canada, or Hackrifice jerseys!
How often do you purchase these items? Never
How much do you like to pay for these items? (this is very important) Again, no more than, like, $20 as an initial price.
Do you purchase these items a regualr article of clothing or just get them as part of an event? The second option. I prefer to wear logo-less clothing, but if it's super nice like my Hackrifice shirt I will wear it around.
If you only get them as part of an event, why is that? Because they look bad and they don't fit.

Style
What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel? baseball-style tshirts. (that diagonal seam from armpitto shoulder with different colour sleeves from body, you know?) Red sleeves, white body is a nice combination. So is brown and red. Yellow and brown -- I like combinations like this.
What sorts of changes or improvments would you like to see in footbags? more durable material. Or maybe a tighter stitch so they don't leak over time...I'm not sure which is a bigger factor for me.

Footbags:

Do you like footbags?

Yes

Do you like to buy footbags?

If I know they are good, then yes.

What kind of footbags?

I haven't decided which type of footbag is best for me, so it's difficult to answer.

How much do you like to spend on footbags?

I would be willing to pay as high as 40 dollars. If I absolutely know it's good, then 50.

How often do buy footbags?

Very rarely due to the fact that I have no way of paying online.

How many footbags do you normally buy at one time?

I would get as many as 3 in one shipment.

Footbag Apparel

Do you like to wear footbag apparel?

Yes

If so what kind?

Possibly a shred shirt, but has to be very breathable and fitting. Pants (pajama style 8) ) I would definitely wear along with a hoody and a toque.

How often do you purchase these items?

Very rare

How much do you like to pay for these items?

Again, if the quality is good then I will be satisfied with 30 - 60 dollars.

Style

What types of designs and styles would you like to see on apparel?

Something that is eye-candy to non-footbaggers, promotes footbag to circle kickers (ie having .org or flipsider's url printed on it) and can be worn as both casual wear and shred gear. They should maybe be light, to match my shorts too

What sorts of changes or improvements would you like to see in footbags?

Just footbags? I think it would be nifty if you could have your name put on a few panels of it - wouldn't that be fancy!

my answers are like everyone elses about the footbags, so ill skip that.
but for apparel i have some comments.
what i think are that if your gonna make a tee shirt have a cool logo on the sleeve. longsleeve shirts are sick too. maybe with a cool footbag design going down the sleeve, like picuters of a footbager doing a sweet trick. (like in magazines for skateboarding, how they show someone grinding a rail or jumping off something. or like the back or the just shred 2 like whoa. but not a person just the outline of one. you know what i mean)
ANYWAYS, that would be sick.'
A hat would be tough, youd have to come up with a cool design that people would want to wear on there head.
I probably wounldnt wear a jacket or jersey either.
I like the hoddys, but agian. you need some sick designs.

alright, that it for now.
