hey guys, i can do butterflies with the ales technique (hop), but when it comes to downtime i cant hit them!

Any tips for this? I think this may help for phoenix and other moves, but if there are any tips then it would be greatly appreciated.

put the bag on your toe, set straight up to about your belly button with a quick jerk up of the knee, put your set foot back down immediately as the bag is still rising, and stand still. wait for it to peak and start to fall, and THEN raise your other knee and point it out a little bit and hop over it for the butterfly.

... soooooo... in other words... practice downtime butterflies

not exactly the most in depth advice, but I hope that helps some.

Well here's the deal...I always thought of Butterfly as an easy trick, performed with as less jump as possible.
But recently, my flipside Butterfly has gotten SO bad, that I can't even do a normal Dimwalk (that happened about the same time that my strong/flip Clipper changed sides).

Now please tell me...do you find Butterfly to be very basic or do you (like me) agree that it deserves 3 Adds?
Just think how more difficult is to do a Stepping out of Butterfly or how Ducking/Spinning Butterflies are harder than Clippers.

Butterfly will become stupid easy over time.

Some tricks will wind up being easier to set up from a butterfly.

Drill infinities and ss butt>inf rpt.

i Agree that a butterfly should be a three add because i used to think they were the absolute BOMB but now they are getting easier but still adds some jazz to an otherwise begginers routine.

just keep drilling, pay attention to why ur flip butterfly is ur flip.. it becomes really natural if u do the drills that Tom suggested

regarding setting from butterfly here's what I think:

stepping / nuke is easier from butter than clip.
furious and spinning and swilring is a lot easier from clipper.

ducking / diving feels the same.

I'm sure everyone has their own preferences though.

make sure your setting correctly. i always set alittle towards the dexing leg, and dex faster... that way you have more setup time for your delay.

once you can set good, you wont miss it. its a really easy trick once you got it, but it takes some figuring out. dont get frustrated, and keep practicing.

andr00: By the looks from the vid, you need to 'give' a little more. What I mean is with your delaying foot, bring it down with the bag. Also bend your support leg with it. It looked, to me anyway, like you were just putting your foot out there to catch the bag. There's no need to rush the move, when the bag gets to its peak start the dex. That's how I learned butterfly.

john I hit it several times (several meaning many times) but i am not quite dialed yet. The difference has been getting the control of my legs that I needed, now its just timing, which isnt nearly as frustrating to work on.

ill have a video up when i get mnore time! thanks for all the help!

your form is fine, and your clippers rule...just keep practicing and THINK more about the clipper than the dex. It looks like you are focusing on the dex and your clipper isn't "clipping"

Setting it straight or curved is fine. With clippers like yours you'll own that move in no time.
btw work butterfly set from toe as well!!!
