Olympic Footbag?

I was wondering what is stopping from the sport of footbag freestyle or net from entering the olympics? I mean they already have eclectic sports like trampolining, table tennis, and handball.

Footbag already has a very international player base (unlike games like jai lai which dont have enough countries to make it an olympic sport)

I think it would be a brilliant way to expand the exposure of the sport of footbag.

probably just that 1. Footbag isn't that old of a sport, so they don't know if it is going to die out any time soon or something like that and 2. The olympics are already huge so they probably don't want to put any more sports in... those are just my guesses though...

The actual answer has to do with federations. In order for a sport to become Olympic, there has to be federations of footbag in a certain number of countries, on a certain number of continents, which host a certain number of tournaments a year. I`m too lazy to look up the specifics of this, but I remember talking about this with Steve G. and Yves. It`s mostly bureaucratic.

Everyone knows about tabble tennis, swimming and gymnastics. Nobody knows about footbag and what it really is.

If memory serves, you need 75-100 countries playing and Half have to have womens teams/players. Each nation needs a federation/governing body, etc... Its crazy. Takraw is a class E olympic sport and it still needs like 20 countries or something insane to make the olympics, although it was demoed a year or 2 ago for the IOC. I dont footbag would make it in to the olympics personally, but dare to dream.

The rules in freestyle are so complicated and messed up that no-one would care about it in olympics.

well the only way to get gov. support is to ask. so lets flood em with e-mails, though I don't know weather you write to the state or federal. And if that doesn't work, wouldn't footbag work better in the X-games?

footbag in the X-games would work well.

if people can play competitive badminton in the olympics then footbag should be considered. Its not 75-100 countries (half the countries have only 5 athletes and only like 130 countries exist in the world). I think you need 12 countries but i could be very wrong.

included in the programme of the Games of the
Olympiad;
1.2 only sports widely practised in at least twenty-five
countries and on three continents may be included in the
programme of the Olympic Winter Games;
1.3 only sports that adopt and implement the World Anti-Doping
Code can be included and remain in the
programme of the Olympic Games;
1.4 sports are admitted to the programme of the Olympic
Games at least seven years before specific Olympic
Games in respect of which no change shall thereafter be
permitted, subject to paragraph 6 below.

Id take my chances with the X-Games

same. we should do x-games instead actually....it'd be better

plus, isn't that what most of us are in now?

I'm speaking for myself but a lot of the shredders in my school are skaters too (actually, kickers or just hackers) but they dig footbag and they'll dig it too in x-games...why not?

heh, I never noticed the doping bit.

That could be a disaster.

"Another Scandal in the 2020 olympics, as the entire medal winning contigency and entrants 5th through 64th have been disqualified for testing positive here in footbag freestyle!"

90% of the community would have to stop smoking a month or so before comps... but since the Anti-doping legislation is actually about blood doping... and not done, then most of them would be fine.

I'm pretty sure, that Footbag Net will be included to Olympic Games before F. Freestyle.
