... and how Johnny tries to be like a replica of Ryan with the way he stands and acts.
First of all I don’t think it is obvious that Jonny tries to be a replica of Ryan. Secondly I don’t think there is anything wrong with identifying and learning from the absolute best freestyle routine players in the world. I guess we all watch and learn from each other! Ok…there might be a few weird exceptions out there but are you one of them Nicholas?
Just as long as he doesn't develop Ryan's personality...
What kind of thing is that to say and why do we need that information? The only attitude problem I have ever experienced with a freestyle player was when I meet you at the European Championships 1999 in Berlin. So please Andrew McCargar… let people decide for them selves what to think about other players’ attitudes and personalities!

Hey Jonny! This was a well played routine even though I liked your Worlds routine a bit more. Keep up your fantastic flow and forget about all the heat regarding the routine music. Vaska will hopefully survive that you used it and I believe that he is about to find a new & cool routine track to use in 2005 anyways.

Im not sure your understanding what I mean. The first thing was a minor point, almost a joke, but with text it doesn't come out right.

When I say he acts a bit like ryan, look at how he juggles, and the stance he takes before he goes for his first move.. Even the way he tosses the bag after doing the juggling. I used to watch ryan routines religously, and its so easy to identify the way he stands and moves with his routines, because its the EXACT same, every time.

I find Johhny has some similar movements.. very VERY similar. Its disconcerting.

Oh and about your little comment about me not learning from other people, im not even going to respond to that :?

Nice routine, Johnny.

It's a shame you can't make it to Melbourne (and a DAMN shame I can't, too).
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.

It did strike me at first but now I see what you mean. I my opinion there is a big difference between “acting a bit like” and being a “replica”.
I guess we all watch and learn from each other! Ok…there might be a few weird exceptions out there but are you one of them Nicholas?

Don’t take offence Nicholas…unless you think I have a hidden point! I have no idea what you prefer in order to develop your game and that is why I was asking – not insinuating.

This will be the last post i make in this topic because it has gone on way to long :)

The reason I act a bit like ryan is because when I started he was the best and wanted to be like him and did all my moves like him. I think it is a good thing that other players influence your style and keep you motivated. Evan I laughed at my tossing of the bag away, but to be honest that was the first time I hadn't dropped juggling in a proper routine. I was just happy!
Thanks for everyones comments

Great routine Johnny - nice work!!

Regarding music - I have a huge amount of music for routines - well over 50 songs. Some of these songs have later been used by other people in routines. For example I did my semi final routine song to the Spiderman theme at the Aus champs feb 2004 - about 6 months before Honza ever used that song - and I've had it on cd for a year and half longer or so - just as the first movie came out. However it would be stupid to say that either of us had stolen the music from anyone - it's a good routine song - and I don't think either of us had any knowledge that the other person was going to use it. The rountine I was planning for worlds 2004 was the Kill Bill theme music that Ellis used for his little promo movie on the last night of worlds - there is only so much music around and it is inevitable that people will use the same songs occassionally. I don't think it's an issue at all - even if you hear a really cool routine song that somebody else uses - I think it's fine to use the same song. Probably it would be a bit rude to use it in a competition with that same person when you think they might be useing the same song - but clearly this wasn't the case.

Ok Jeremy, so you probably played your routine to the original theme from spiderman cartoon because that song is in first spiderman movie, but I played to Spiderman from Michael Buble- canadian interpret. Before Euros 04 I was deciding between three versions of spiderman, but the cartoon version was only 1 minute long, so I decided for Michael Buble's one. The third version was spideman by Apollo 440, which I discovered in Tony Hawk's pro skater 2 and that is a long long time ago.

The track I picked for my routine at World's in Montreal was over 8 minutes long. I made a 1:45 minute edit.

kaos wrote:That was such a good routine. I must say I am surprised to see that the majority of the posts in this topic was about the choice of song. It's a bit dissappointing, because Johnny put together a well thought out and beautifully executed routine, and should be getting props, not critism about something as minor as his choice of song.
Yeah, you are absolutely right!
I liked the routine too, very well performed. Props!

Johnny you rock! So stylish and great.

Stop arguing about music. It doesnt have the slightest bit of importance in this thread. Make another thread if you wish, but stop using this thread to argue about something as insignificant as this.

I love Johnny's style.

I really loved that routine Johnny! It was great how almost everything was put together to the music, that kind of artistical interpretation impress me the most. You have a great style and performed every string with big confidence :D I'm always aiming for a routine that flows like yours. If you did it without those few drops in the end it would be perfect :D

Yabba, Yabba, Yabba...good to see how these forum entries tend to jump down peoples throats;)
everybody is always so easily offended.

But personally I think Vasek won't give a damn that Johnny used his song for the Newzealand NATIONALS.

I got the same problem with the video though..."censored"

Thanks for the footage richard!

and BIG Props to Johnny. That's one of the best routines I've ever seen!

A pitty you don't appreciate it yourself more at the end. You shouldn't apologize to the audience only because the last 5seconds of your routine didn't work out as planned. They got 1:55 of perfection and that's what counts.

btw I even like your routine better than Vaseks version because your choreography is stronger (or more emphacised). ***This is meant as props to Johnny not as a critique of Vasek***

this is ridicoulous.. nobody has rights on any music to use on their routines over anyone unless they have a deal with the artist themself..
Id love to see the routine but I guess I cant since people dont understand that
