Hey Yacine. I am tired after doing a good amount of easy BOPs.
Do you think that riding on an exercise bike would help my cardio? I know it would help my leg strength, but that would be really cool if i could kill 2 birds with one exercise bike.
You rock also, you style is so cool.

Good news. Bad news.
Good news! My right shin splints is less painful now!
Bad news! My left shin splints is more painful now!
I've given up being completely healthy.
Today's session was ok. The length of my shred sessions is increasing. That's a good sign. I feel rested more quickly after a long string and I have more energy after the first hour of the session. All the hard work is finally paying off.
Nothing new today but I did some cool rake stuff mid-string - nothing difficult but rakes look good. I hit a 2 drops routine and a shred30 that would score around 170. It's decent but not great. My best score in shred30 was 198.
I worked on my butterflies today and I think it will help. Sometimes I get lazy and stop doing basic things like really leaning over the bag. I tried to rotate well out of my sets and land smoothly. That kind of stuff. I never thought I'd be working on my butterflies 5 years after I picked up the sport!
That's it for tonight boys and girls. See you soon.

I don't like the bike. I'd rather climb steps or do squats but I don't know why. As long as working out doesn't diminish your footbag playing time I guess any physical activity is good.HenryG wrote:Do you think that riding on an exercise bike would help my cardio? Dropless!
I didn't hit a dropless routine yesterday. Very disapointing. I wasn't even close.
I did have some good shred scores though. My best run was:
108 adds
31 contacts
30 uniques
3.48 ratio
TOTAL SCORE: 212!
Woohoo! Hopefully I'll do a few more of these before this week-end.

Relaxation...
Paradox...
I did something I hadn't done in a while yesterday. I was relaxed but still was able to hit all the move I wanted. It's a fine line between being relaxed and being sloppy or slow. You still have to have some "Umpf!" in your moves. When I want to shred effortlessly i try to crank my ankles a little more so I don't have to bend my support leg as much. It works but I have a tendency to get lazy when I do it too much.
Breathing...
I also worked on my breathing technique yesterday. When I'm really focused I forget to breathe! I try to inhale for 1 or 2 seconds (1-2 moves) and then exhale for 1 or 2 seconds - depending what I'm trying to hit. Around the 15th move of a string all hell breaks loose and I have no control over my breathing.
The Pain...
Yes. I am still complaining about my injuries. Yesterday shin splints on both legs were so painful that I limped as fast as I could to ice them. Today. It hurts when I walk! I need a day off. On the brighter side, my hip and back are doing great! Yé!
Tomorrow's topic: Partying and shreddin' at tournaments vs. Taking it easy at tournaments

I believe it! Go Yax!I think I can win the World Championships this year. Some people - including Vasek - will disagree. But what am I going to do? Aim for second place? No way!
Your first round at Worlds last summer was one of the best performances of the whole competition, and I was impressed that you were able to do that even with the pressure of running the tournament. Damn. Imagine Yacine when he hasn't been busy for months with organizing worlds...
I do lots and lots of consecutive kicks now before most of my solo work-outs. I find that the easy-going gentle side-to-side swaying of inside and outside kicks really loosens up my back and hips and keeps them from getting stiff or injured. I usually kick for 30 minutes before doing any freestyle, but I think 15 minutes is enough to get loose. Maybe you should give it a try before resorting to frequent visits to a "specialist" who has never even heard of freestyle footbag and probably does not really appreciate the physical stresses that go with atomic sets or pixie ducking butterflies.About 2 weeks ago, I had an appointment with a physiotherapist. She basically told me that I had to see a specialist a few times a week to get fixed up or I should stop playing.
I owe Flash about half-a-dozen beers for his one-add (possibly zero-add?) tricks that he did last year. And I'm working 'em too...One-add moves are great in a routine but nobody practices them.

I had to stop because my groin muscle felt funny. Funny in a bad way. We'll see tomorrow how it feels.
maybe it had something to do with that girl
Yax, i reallly enjoy reading your blog, i think im gonna start working out as soon as summer and warm weather is back, right now im kinda drilling and learning new moves and not pushing my self to much from long strings, once summer is back i plan on kicking it in to high gear. when summer comes i want to start takeing footbag as a SPORT that i will work my ass of geting better at, insted of just a side hobbie i do for fun. footbag=fun fun=footbag such a great sport.

Food!
Day off...
Yesterday was a day off. I iced my shins for an hour or so and only worked out and stretched for about 30 minutes at home. It feels good. My left shin still hurts when I walk though so I might not shred today. We'll see after more ice and a few pain-killer pills.
Partying...
I have so much fun when I'm drunk! I love partying at tournaments. Sometimes the parties are more fun than the shred. In 2001, on the eve of the world championships finals night I got trashed went to bed at 6am. I hit a dropless routine the next day. So I'm not so sure it's that bad to get shit-faced before competition.
Taking it easy...
Since 2002, I never did well in tournaments if I drank too much. I guess it's a matter of deciding wether you care or not about the results in competition. I care... But just at worlds now. I don't care about any other tournament anymore. I'll show up and party but might not even compete. I'll pay my entry fees to help the tournaments even if I don't compete. Everybody should do that.
Food...
I'm getting ready for G.L.A.S.S. next week-end. Nothing sucks like catching a cold just before a shred vacation. I try to sleep regular hours and eat a lot. If I can't sleep much, I'll eat even more. I try to eat 3 big meals and a smaller one and I drink a meal replacement can everyday. It works.
Shred30...
I was arguing once with some renowned shredders whether shred30 should be improvised or not. In my opinion, this is the dumbest concept ever. Improvising in competition means this: do not prepare! Then why hold a competition? If you don't prepare, your performances are random. You can have a great day or suck ass. If you do prepare you know exactly how much you'll score. There's no point giving prizes and having a competition if it's all going to be random. Let's just flip a coin and play for fun. A competition is about the BEST man winning. And if that means the same guy will win all the shred30 for years so be it.
That's it for today boys and girls. So long.

Sick...
Dudes!
I ended up not shredding yesterday because I had a fever! It's ironic that I was writing about how not to get sick right before a tournament a few days ago.
I'm heading to Toronto right now. I'm flying! It will be the shortest trip to a tournament ever - 1 hour. The longest trip? 100 hours round-trip Montreal-Denver on the bus.
I'll write to you guys on Monday.

Down with the sickness
Hello!
I got my ass kicked in the shred30. It shouldn't have happened even though I was physically weak. My score was just ridiculously low. I don't even want to think about it.
Props to Andrew, Camille, and Tom for holding the first Shred event in Toronto.
I'll hit a few big moves tomorrow and talk to all of you loyal readers tomorrow!
The G.L.A. Shred Session was sick indeed. So was I! Lots of new shredders. Seeing the new Ontario scene really pumped me up! I have to study for my exam tomorrow and then I'll be shredding again.Camilleon wrote:THIS IS SICK!!!

hey yax,
just wanted to say a few things. first off, i really had a good time partying with you at GLASS. sharing footbag stories around a 140 oz pitcher (or 2) and laughing all night long was a blast! secondly, sorry for keeping you up all night long laughing like morons, and for having tom poke you in the ear repeatedly while you were sick and trying to sleep. and thirdly, i finally found the answer to the question you asked me that first night...
YOU!!!
just jokes. i can't wait to party with you again, and maybe this time we'll even shred together!
cheers

AHAHAHAHA!
Yeah that was quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard! The timing was so perfect... what a night!
I really enjoyed partying with you as well, Yax. And I'm also very sorry for being loud and laughing and shit while you were sleeping (or trying to anyways). I hope you feel better.
And thanks for coming! We were really hoping that you would attend; you are such an inspiration to us in Toronto, and Ontario too. Hell, your shred silhouette graces the GLASS and Shred ON! logos!
Thank you!
Hopefully we see you in Montreal this spring
.

Good times
Good times...
Yes... We had a fun time in Toronto. For all of you who kept me up all night long all week-end long rest assured. I feel much better and rested right now.
I also did great on my exam this morning. So everything is all right.
Killer session...
Good session today. I dropped the last move of one routine. No bail. Everything was perfect. I didn't even feel tired during the routine. But once the routine was over though I realized I was completely out of breath!
I hit Jani walker and Fury for the first time since September. I skooled my tombstones and blenders and everything was working quite nicely.
I also impressed a bunch of 12 years-old girls.
I have 2 weeks left to get ready for RNH Contest. That's right baby! I'm going to Paris!

Stood up!
Date...
I had a date with Nic Laroche today and I was stood up! He never showed up! So I ended up shredding by myself.
I really need to shred better when I'm tired. I need to shred more often, longer sessions. My level of play drastically drops after about 30 minutes of shredding alone.
I had a good session though. Lots of double-dex (barrage/double-down combos)moves and a few sailing butterfly. I never really worked on my sails.
I don't think I impressed nobody today but somebody looked at me with a dumb look on his face.

I just can't resist. Seeing that one of my very best friends in footbag is training seriously is inspiring.
I don't know yet if I'm going to Helsinki this summer, but I just quit going to school because it was cutting into my footbag time. Not to mention my sanity, which can be a fragile thing.
I hope to see you there, Yax.... on the podium.
I give and receive tons of dumb looks everyday.
es tu pumpe?
