The New Deal

Post by Chris Hanratty »

Does anyone else out there listen to the Canadian band The New Deal? I've been listening to so much of these guys lately, I can't get enough. If you don't know who they are, I'll give you a little brief bio. Three guys from Toronto that use drums, bass and keyboards to play live house music! It's a bit progressive and there are some breaks in there as well. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in 2002 at Halifax's Edgefest 2 (which kicked ass by the way), and they were amazing live. They do a lot of improvising while playing live, which is definately different to see. The coolest thing about this band is that I can't think of any other group that plays any sort of electronic music through live instruments, and not turntables. The closest that comes to it is The Prodigy, who does some instruments and keyboard stuff live. But there's also a guy or two that run loops and stuff like that the whole concert as well.

I'm going to stop blabbering, check them out. It's hard to find their stuff online so I can send people stuff if they want to. www.thenewdeal.ca. Video's on the main page, scroll down and to the right.

peace.

Hi, Im from the philly area. They come around quite often for being from Canada. I saw them just a couple months ago. I'm not too into electronic music but these guys jam. Their show had tons of energy. Do you like kicking to them?

They definately are a kick ass jam group! I've seen them once and they had tonnes of energy too.

There's I think 5 of their songs in one of my footbag playlists that I kick to!!!

I play with Josh benham. Hes quite the music nazi when we are shredding. I put some new deal cd in, Im not sure from where, but it only took about 2 minutes for him to remove it and put in some gangster rap music.
