It's more powerful than God.
It's more evil than the devil.
The poor have it.
The rich need it.
If you eat it, you'll die.
What is it?

BBQ Chicken Pizza? Oh shit I just had a slice!

*dies*

But seriously, I think it's "Nothing", because the poor have it and the rich need it, and if you don't eat anything, it's not a good situation.

The first two lines don't make sense to me though. OH wait I get it. I'm silly! :)

You are correct. It's a rather easy riddle, but it's always been one of my favorites.

So you're upstairs. There are three light switches here, all of which are turned off. Each is connected to a separate light bulb downstairs in the basement, and without going downstairs, there's no way to see which bulb is turned on. By only going downstairs once, and by only having one switch in the "on" position when you do so, how is it possible to figure out every switch's corresponding bulb?

I'll venture a guess :D

You started downstairs with one of the lights on. When you reach upstairs, you know which of the switches is controlling which bulb since it's in the 'on' position.. You turn off the switch (which is where the riddle starts). You turn on another switch, go downstairs and find the bulb that is on. You then know that the remaining switch controls the bulb that wasn't turned on.

I don't think anyone understood that Jericho.

If you mean to say that you went downstairs with two switches on...well A) You're breaking the rules. Only one switch can be on when you go downstairs...and B) It doesn't work anyway, you need to know every switch's bulb, not just one of them.

Ok one try :

one bulb is in the kitchen, one in the living room ,and one in the hall where the stairs are.

You put the bulb in the hall on -- some light will shine up to you, so you can guess which switch was it -- after that you got the first one!

then you put another on and go down- look in the kitchen and if the bulb is on you got it -- switch number two is clear too

if the bulb in the kitchen is off, then switch number two was for the living room

after you have switch number two it is clear what switch number three stands for.

summing up :
you put all three on and off one by one as often
you had identified the frist switch by looking in the hall from upstairs.
you turn all three off and one on ( not the one of the hall bulb of course) and go down and check which bulb is on now - so you got it.

you don't touch one switch, you turn on one switch for several minutes, then you turn it off and turn on the last one. then you go downstairs.

the cold bulb is the first switch, the warm bulb is the second switch and the "on" bulb is the "on" switch (obviously).

right? or did all those wierd answers confuse me as to the rules of the actual riddle... am i allowed to turn one switch on then off again before going downstairs? and can i feel the bulbs? if so, that's gotta be the answer.

Yep! See people? It totally makes sense, and it's a clever answer.

Oh, that was in response to Jared. Jochen, I said that there's no way to tell which light is on without going downstairs. :P

okay, this one shouldn't be too hard...

there aren't very many words that end with "gry" in english. Angry and Hungry are the obvious ones, but there is a third word, one you use every day. What is the third word in the English language?

haha my friend told me this one about a week ago

the third owrd id hungry......since Jared said the third word in the english language, he had a sentence following that which had hungry as the THIRD word. hence, the third word that we use everyday that ends in gry is hungry.....

A man lives on the west coast of the US. He gets a job as a traveling salesman, and is required to travel to all 48 states on the continental US. Here's the catch, he is only allowed to travel to each state once. What state does he end up in?
