Restuarant Sponsor?

So I'm thinking about some more sponsorship ideas for ShrEdmonton coming up in June, and I thought of something like an official tournament supper that players could all attend.

ie: Boston Pizza, some Chinese food place, whatever.

For those who plan to attend ShrEdmonton, or just players in general, would you be down for attending a supper as opposed to buying your food at a nearby grocery store? I don't know how much it would cost...but of course I'd like to keep it down as much as possible.

I wasn't sure about having a Bar/Pub/Club sponsor the tournament, since all attendees probably won't be of legal age, and Alberta's pretty consistent about checking ID's.

Please, hit me up with any ideas/thoughts/opinions.

I think saturday night should be the designated "official" ShredEdmonton party night. The other nights can have parties too, but they'll be "unofficial" and depend on arrivals and departures.

It might be easier to get sponsorship from an independent restaurant. I like BP's though cause it's nice an open... good for convoflow... and their french onion soup is distinguishable. Ever been to bucca's pasta? That place is wacky cheap and tasty. I'm not sure on the capacity though.

Another option is having it at someone's house. Although the house would have to be pretty substantial. The other downside to this option is that it could be quite a bit of work to cater to a large group, but... I must insist, BBQ's ROCKS! Seriously.

what is the drinking age in alberta?

i would be down for a supper. It'll definitely have a different vibe than the usual raging first night tourney parties. but then again as long as i was at shredmonton, i'd be game for anything

Anyway, what I was thinking is an official players' dinner on the Friday night when/after people get in...and then an official players' party the next night.

The legal age here is 18, but I hope to have some younger players make it out too, and I certainly don't feel good about leaving them out of the festivities. I'd be happy to have a party at my condo, I just don't know how my brother and roommate would feel about it.

The place isn't huge, but I think it'd suffice.

I appreciate anyone's thoughts on the matter, whether you are attending or not.

I think a dinner would be a awesome idea but depending on your budget it might not be a possable one. Condsier (sp) how many players are attending you might have to rent out a whole resturant. That can get pricey unless you get a resturant that gives you a good deal since your bringing alot of business to them.

I really like this idea. I think its be a nice way to bring everybody together to get to know each other.

You could also rent out a hall and order pizza. Plus if the hall big enough you could have some sherd action going on.

I don't know the bars rules in canada but are underage people allowed in the bars even if they don't drink or are they forbidden. Becuase if their allowed to come in, everybody can just got to a bar that serves food and if people want to order a meal they can.

I don't even know if that made sense. I probly come back a edit this when I'm not so tired,

Nah, here in Deadmonton, you have to be 18 to get in the door. Truly, are there that many under 18 shredders that go to tournies? (Just a question). THe restarant (Sic) is a fine idea, but all the tournies ive been to... Its been a bar (Vancouver, Montreal...) So.....

Can you even rent out restaurants? That doesn't make any sense to me. If we're filling seats, why should we pay them first so that we can then pay them for food to eat?

I really would'nt mind having both restaurant AND bar Ben, but keep in mind, somewhere like Boston Pizza serves alcohol too, and isn't a bar.

Very True, and im not saying it has to be a bar period. The atmosphere at bars tends to be more suited for large gatherings, people can walk from table to table, etc. In a restaurant with other patrons, they might get upset if you keep doing it stuff like that, although BP's im sure would be pretty easy going.

Yes. Shane's coming too, this guy I met like...last summer, and haven't seen since. I just came across his number again.

And BP's, if there were like...two large tables...or...hmmm.

Rory had been talking about pre-registration, something like a late May deadline or something, so that things like T-shirts, restaurant whatnot, info for media, whatever, can be accumulated.
