Does back to back have to be moves like ripwalk where it is both flipside and normal or can it be like, say scorpions tail. I think the former but im just making sure

It means that you hit trick with both sides when there is nothing between of them. like ripwalk>ripwalk .Yea, ripwalk is a trick you CAN hit b2b.. . but i think scorpions tail is not trick what you can hit back to back

I disagree, but I guess it depends on your interpretation of back to back.

I would say a basketball player can hit back to back freethrows, and a baseball pitcher can throw back to back strikes . . . I don't see a problem with hitting back to back scorpions tails, or back to back ripsteins.

I agree with Lauri and don't think scorpions tail can be hit b2b.

In my interpretation back to back is when you hit a move(or moves) both sides without having any tricks between them.
I don't see a problem with hitting back to back scorpions tails, or back to back ripsteins.
What is consecutive then?

Scorpion tails can be hit consecutively.
Ripwalks can be hit consecutively.
But only ripwalks can be hit back to back.

Spinning whirls can be hit consecutively.
Paradox whirls can be hit consecutively.

back to back is as idomatic expression for consecutive occurances of something.
back to back

Consecutively and without interruption: presented three speeches back to back.

The American Heritage® Dictionary of Idioms

You can hit ripwalk back and forth, you can hit scorpions tail back to back, but not back and forth.

Ok, but what if I tell you that I've been hitting blurry whirls back to back? Does that mean that I was hitting them one side or both sides?

Who's Cameron?

b2b blurry whirls means you're hitting them on both sides, because blurry whirl ends on a different foot than it starts on.

Cameron is Tsiangkun.

I agree with Cameron. Back-to-back means precisely the same thing as consecutive. Back-to-back simply means "one after the other" and does not necessarily imply anything about one side and then the other. Lance Armstrong had back to back victories in the Tour De France (back to back to back to back to...)

Scorpion's tail can definately be hit back-to-back. Back-to-back, consecutively, same thing.

For me back to back (b2b) was alway hit the move on one side and then on the other... like Ripwalk > Ripwalk, Mobius > Mobius, Gyro Whirl > Gyro Whirl... And when we use this term, then b2b can be hit only moves which starts and ends on different sides and the setting and stalling surfaces are the same.

Maybe in "The American Heritage® Dictionary of Idioms" there is another definition, but I'm using footbag lingo, when I'm saying "I hit ripwalk b2b...." or "It is not possible to hit scoropin's tail b2b"... But use it how you want to...

Okay, but the english expression back to back means consecutive, and has nothing to do with side. We have back and forth for that use.
back and forth
adv.
1. to and fro.
2. From side to side.

Cam,
What is important here is NOT what the dictionary definition of a word is. I dont care what American Heritage says about the definition of ____. What IS important is how we use that word in the footbag community. For example, look up props in the dictionary. Even tho its not there, doesnt mean we cant use it, or modify it for our uses. Similarly, back to back might mean the same thing as consecutive in a dictionary or be synonyms in a thesaurus, but I think fewer people in footbag probably say "I hit back to back scorpion tails" instead of "I hit 2 consec. scorpion tails."

Forget the dictionary . . . The expression is in widespread usage and it means consecutive in popular english usage.

You will never be wrong, using the phrase as you want to, but you would be wrong to correct someone using the phrase as it is intended to be used.

I hit six spinning whirls back to back. I most definately would use an expression like that, and frequently do.

Did he just hit back to back sevens ? I would say something like this too. . .
props

n : proper respect; "I have to give my props to the governor for the way he handled the problem"

At least check out back and forth, it's an equally idiomatic expression meaning exactly what you want to hijackback to back to mean.

I think this is a bit of a silly discussion.

The other day I hit tapping dlo back to back. Now I am convinced that everybody on this forum who has been playing footbag for more than a month or two understands what I mean when I say that - tapping dlo back to back.

I can't possibly believe that those arguing you can only hit moves that change sides back to back don't understand what I mean when I say I hit tapping dlo back to back.

When somebody mentions a move and says they hit it back to back or consecutivly - you don't need to listen to see if they use consecutive or back to back to know if they are hitting it on both sides or not - you only need to know what the move is - and if you don't know what the move is - noticing if they say back to back or consecutive won't make you understand what the move is.

There should be a common sense rule in footbag such that anybody who doesn't display common sense and complains about wording that may or may not be correct - but is easy to understand the meaning anyway - should be punished!
